  1. What are they? I can only say that I've met a lot more thin neurotics than fat ones!
  2. Back in the ancient days when I worked with Zeb, he used to stock bags of pretzels and Twizzlers. I raided his stash on a near daily basis. I keep nothing in my desk as I would eat it all, leaving me with nothing in my desk.
  3. Go to this page on the Southern Culture on the Skids website for some great recipes, including "Tangwich" (sandwich of Marshmallow Fluff and Tang), a Brisket Sandwich (chipped ham, BBQ sauce, Pepsi and Wonder Bread), Mudbog (beer and chocolate milk), and other favorites!
  4. Sorry, Dave, but even using the word croquembouche takes you out of white trash territory.
  5. Now if you can get some coon, possum, squirrel or other type of varmint (present company excluded), you could always smoke that!
  6. Also think of tater tots, french fried onions, anything with hot dogs in it, Twinkies (a Twinkie trifle), marshmallows, potato chip topping, Cheez Whiz, Cheese in a Can, canned fruit cocktail, or anything else that is incredibly processed.
  7. Yeah, I got your amuse right here.
  8. I've heard great things about Bowen's Island from Holly and Fat Guy, but I, unfortunately, don't eat oysters. Is there any other reason to go here than oysters? And there has to be more opinions on Charleston food than this!
  9. Hey, that's straight off of the Yahoo driving directions site, and their time is a bit conservative. I think with stops, some traffic, and realistic speeds, you're looking at a 16 hour day. That's brutal!
  10. Nick and Katherine- I just received an email from two friends in Skowhegan that they're coming for the event. If they can make it, so can you!!! Of course, they're headed to the NC beaches for the following week, but that's just a minor detail!
  11. Nick and Katherine- As you know, driving down here is all about the traffic. How well can you time it?? I can't recall where y'all are, but from Boothbay Harbor, it's about 900 miles and a bit more than 13 hours of driving. That is a haul, indeed. You could fly from Manchester NH on Southwest for under $200, but that's a lot of money for a pig pickin'. Picking up folks along the way may make the trip more enjoyable, too. I certainly hope you can make it, but it's such a long distance that I can certainly see why that might make it a tad much.
  12. As we get a bit closer to the event, I'll put up a separate "Whatcha Bringing" thread. We do have 104 days until the event, still, so no need to worry about non-pig stuff yet.
  13. Collards are related to kale, but have a different leaf and flavor. Here's a good description for you: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/BODY_MV053
  14. Collards. Turnip greens. Mustard greens. Cooked with fatback, bacon, or other form of pork. Cooked slowly. Add a touch of vinegar, and sometimes a bit of sugar. I really adore greens and eat them any chance I can. What greens do you eat? How do you prepare them? What are some unusual ways to incorporate greens in your cooking?
  15. Gee, where we're vacationing in the NC mountains in 3 weeks is only 70 miles from Pigeon Forge. I wonder if I could convince Mrs. Varmint to head to Dollywood, as I need to get as close to god as I can!
  16. Thanks for the great report, Zebster and Deanna. When you going to get Mrs. A on eGullet?!?!

  18. Will do next revision, Blondie. We actually may be having guests come from Norway, but since they're not eGulleteers, the farthest distance travelled prize would still be up for grabs. Torakris? Xanthippe? Schielke/Dixon? Andy Lynes or any other Brit????? Having Canada represented already makes this an international event, but having multiple continents would make it even better!!!
  19. Wow. Can you come to North Carolina in October?
  20. Jesus Christ, I have enough trouble questioning Craig's palate!
  21. You should be. You'd get beat up down here for such a transgression. Now if you made the larb with smoked pork or smoked chicken, that's a different matter altogether. Larbeque. Sounds good to me!
  22. This was (and continues to be) the week from hell. My weight is still at 214. I've managed to exercise nearly every day, but I haven't eaten well at all. I've had couriers bring me lunch three times this week, and I can assure you it wasn't good. My Italian dinner last Friday easily represented 2 full days of food. I also made a bunch of Thai food for friends the other night. Too much food. Thank god for the exercise. Anyhow, I must get back to my shackles of lawyerdom.
  23. Y'all use utensils????
  24. Perhaps a beer milkshake?
  25. Is a traditional milk shake maker absolutely necessary? Others believe so. I may have to invest in one.
