There's a sushi place in Kyushu that has sushi cut from different parts of the whale. They actually have a diagram showing where the cut came from.

thanks for the great information Torakis. I unfortunately don't speak or read Japanese and I'll be going home at the end of the month. The good part is that I come back to Japan two weeks after that and will try to go on some of these tours.
-
I'm in the Yokosuka area so something relatively close would be great. English would be preferable but my co-workers and I dont really mind if the tours are in Japanese.

Does anyone have information on factory food/beverage tours in Japan? I've been to the Kirin factory and I think there is also a Sapporo beeru tour but thats about it.

I agree, Hiroshima style okonomiyaki. I think that it would be quite attractive to the western palate (maybe a few alterations in the ingredients though like lots of beef ) ← I'd have to agree with you there dougery. I tried my first okonomiyaki yesterday and it was difficult for me to finish....too much veggies, it was like eating a big salad

Maybe I grew up in a strange household but I always thought all rice was supposed to be sticky so using the term "sticky rice" was redundant. Is this a mainland thing or do locals call regular rice, "sticky rice" too. I tend to think of mochi rice when I hear sticky rice.

great review skchai, I've tried the crab croquette bento and it was really tasty. I haven't eaten at many japanese style restaurants so I don't know if this is common but Minato restaurant (near the King Street Times market) has a sweet potato salad which is similar to Imari's, I like it.

The Diners in Pearl City (in the shopping complex with Good Year sorry I forget the name) has good filipino food my co-workers say.

Hmm, I've only really eaten at golden coin and that was to try the chicken empanadas which I thought were tasty. I've tried great pork adobo from some place in the waipahu area (not sure where since the boss at work told someone to pickup food to eat).

My mother always made fried rice using ketchup....quite tasty especially if there are slightly burnt pieces of rice.

I've seen salt in a little container that is kinda reddish in color, not sure what kind of salt was that though.
