  1. I believe it's the DV8 restaurant that does this....people eat in the dark, literally, intentionally.
  2. All this love for kolachy makes me think maybe I should give it another chance....I had a poppy seed one quite a while ago....I'm more into sweets than savory..and I wasn't that impressed!
  3. Ling: I have also heard rave reviews for those brownies from Mackinnon's, so I did try it out, but I was quite disappointed! I think it was overpowered by the extremely walnut taste ( this is coming from someone who eats walnuts right out from the bag), and reminded me of a Chinese snack that's made of walnut and dates. Not chocolatey at all! Well, it could be just because my expectations were so high... Now back to your regular programming.
  4. I am constantly asking myself the same question, especially when friends and family from oversea comes to visit, and want to try some authentic Canadian cuisine...And often I am stumped.
  5. After going last year and not finding it impressive at all, our family decided not to go again this year...But those mini donuts...DARN! THEY ARE GOOD!
  6. I absolutely adore NUTS of all kinds!! And I like nuts in all my food: brownies, ice cream, salads, breads, right out of the huge can... Gosh, I can't imagine being allergic to nuts. Must be the worst feeling ever!
  7. Always have horrible experience eating any kind of Oreos.....they just get stuck in my teeth all day! I can't even brush it off!
  8. I don't have anything to add, but I just want to say that this discussion has me salivating... A quick question though, when is the best time, in your mind, to go to a bakery? I assume that it depends on the store, but is there such a time?
  9. A quick question about Gyoza King--what's good besides gyoza?

    Durian

My family LOVE durians! We used to buy it and wait for it to ripen...Everyday we would look to see if there's a crack...ah, the good old days of childhood! Does rambutan taste like lychee?
  11. Just wondering if it's really "worth it". I mean, I know it's a great chance to have a 3-course meal for $25 at a restaurant that usually serves entrees for about $25, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of choices(within a particular resturant). Beside, does quality suffer?
  12. Any recommendations for brunch buffets that are not in hotels?
  13. I've only tried two kinds, the grape bread, and the herb parmasen foccasia. I absolutely loved the grape bread, but really didn't care for the foccasia, thought it was too salty for my taste and too hard to chew. I guess I'm not a chewy-bread kind of a person then! Having said that, can anyone suggest another kind of bread that I might like? With the texture similar to that of the grape bread?
