  1. There's also a place on lower Queen Anne called "Sushi Land". They have really inexpensive sushi, $2 per plate or so.
  2. Oh yes, I forgot about Grilled Stingray. I can still remember the taste of it and ohmi!! We would go for grilled stingrays with hokkien fried noodles and some fruit juice. Ahhh, those were the days.
  3. I love fried carrot cake singapore-style too!! Oh man, i havent had that in over 6 years and that's way too long... There are a ton of variations to this dish though and I'm drooling just thinking about it. Used to have it for breakfast as well. A nice dessert item would be "Sweet bean curd". It's bean curd but sweetened and it's really tasty. Actually, most people have it for breakfast together with soy milk.
  4. Here are some of my fav Singapore dishes - Laksa (A spicy coconut based noodle broth with seafood) - Fried Hokkien noodles (Yellow noodles fried with squid and pork usually) - Hor Fun(A peranakan seafood wide-noodle dish) - Nasi Lemak (Coconut rice dish with various stuff) - Nasi Briyani( Indian rice dish with chicken or lamb) - Chicken Rice (Chicken broth-based rice with either steamed or fried chicken) - Spicy Fish ball noodles - Won-ton noodles dried(Which is a different take on the usual won-ton noodles) - Bak Kut Tea (Rice with a pork-rib garlic broth and super tasty) - Satay (bbq meat, have to try this) The locals would definiltely know the best places for some of these dishes. Some of the best food are found in the local hawker centers and they are super-cheap too! The Seafood center on the East Coast(which you probably went to) has great stuff. I love that black pepper crab and the small crispy crunchy squid. Man, I miss the food back home . . .
  5. Fran's chocolates are amazingly good! I had also tried their hot chocolate and mocha latte drinks and that was the best mocha i ever had! The real dark chocolate makes the drink very tasty.
  6. Where exactly are the boats that sell fish off Fisherman's Terminal? I'm not that familiar with that area. Landmarks i know of are the Ballard Locks and Ray's/Anthony's. Thanks!
  7. Since the CR salmon is so fresh, is it possible to just buy it as a fillet and eat it raw, sushi/sashimi style?
  8. If you guys ever go to SE Asia, be sure to check out the seafood restaurants. Prices will be really cheap compared to the US and I can remember gulping down Tons of steamed prawns. The massive grilled scampi and spicy grilled stingrays are amazingly good too.
  9. I remembered seeing the fat content of the various salmon species online together with the rivers where they are caught. The Yukon river salmon has the highest content followed by the Copper river salmon. Both of them have much higher fat than regular wild salmon. Speaking of salmon, what are some good places to buy salmon in the Seattle area? Thanks!
  10. There is also the Yukon river salmon which is supposed to contain more fat than the Copper river salmon as the Yukon river is longer in length and the fish have to store more fat. However, it seems almost impossible to get the Yukon river salmon...
  11. Work moved to the Eastside . . . so I would like to find out what are some good places to eat on the Eastside, meaning Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland. Some places I know of are: Juanita Bay Grill? Sichuanese cuisine Cafe Ori Kiku sushi? Malay Satay hut(comes with stuck up servers) What are some of your fav places and dishes? Thanks!
  12. The sauteed mushrooms at the Met are really good too! Prime rib wasnt that great but their other steaks were very tasty.
  13. Brasa has nice food and the paella is great but the service and waitstaff at Brasa are awful and that's an understatement. They are totally stuck up especially the hostess. Restaurants with great service are the Georgian which has amazing service and 727 Pine.
  14. Some of the other places I like to go for lunch in downtown Seattle in no particular order. Saigon - Pike Market Cheap and good Vietnamese stuff. Turkish Delight - Pike Market Turkish/Mediterranean food Osaka Teriyaki - Corner of 2nd and Pike Not a nice interior but food is great and cheap DeLaurenti - 1st and Pike Great sandwiches and Pizza Jai Thai - 1st and Lenora in Belltown Thai food Jasmine - Post alley between Pike and Pine in the Market Very nice Thai and Moroccan food Typhoon Pricier Thai food Pan-African Cafe - 1st Ave between Pike and Pine African food
  15. There's a good Teriyako place called "Happy Teriyaki" on 5th Ave between Pike and Pine. It's in the basement of the building beside Banana republic. Good teriyaki and we used to go there a lot when we worked in that area. The Noodle Shop place in the Westlake mall is actually pretty good too. Has that SAM Cafe opened yet?
  16. Does Union have a website? Also, does their $25 menu apply to Fridays? Thanks
  17. They should do something similar to Vancouver, which had over 100 restaurants in their promotion. I read somewhere(Seattle Weekly?) that Fire and Ice Lounge and Bueno Aires Grill also has a $23 3-course dinner offer.
  18. Ok thanks, maybe Sunday or late Monday night then. :)
  19. Anyone interested in going to Nell's on a Friday evening for dinner? http://www.nwsource.com/ae/scr/nws_vd.cfm?c=r&id=3553 Also thinking of lunch at 727 Pine http://www.nwsource.com/ae/scr/nws_vd.cfm?c=r&id=4214 They have unfortunately removed the kobe beef from the menu.
  20. What's good at Le Pichet for lunch? Anything good other than sandwiches? Also, what is amazing about their roast chicken? It seems quite popular but i find it hard to justify paying so much for roast chicken... Thanks!
  21. In Singapore, there is the Hainan chicken (with that awesome rice, which i just found out how to make) which is what is served at Malay Satay Hut and yummy. Not known as salt-baked chicken there though. There is also a different salt-baked chicken which is somewhat hard to describe. Never found out how they did it but it is quite different from the Hainanese chicken. What is this Hawaiian-style Cantonese chicken? Thanks!
  22. The deep fried Tilapia is pretty good but the rub-with-love salmon or whatever they call it is pretty sad. You can probably get the deep fried Tilapia at a good Chinese restaurant for a much better price too. Been to Etta's a few times (for company lunch) but they dont impress too much. I think Cutter's is better for seafood than Etta's. Hmm, that kind of rhymes.
  23. A good salt-baked chicken is awesome!!! I used to have those when i was a kid in Singapore. Yummy stuff! As with all kinds of food, there are slight variations but most of them are tasty. Havent had those things for years but I'll have to check out that Hakka place.
  24. I was there for breakfast on Sunday and the service was terrible. Sat there for over 10 mins with no service and I had to help myself to the menu. The server was re-arranging tables even though I was the only customer waiting to be served(the rest were waiting for their food). The plates from the previous diner were still uncleared on my table then. Finally had to walk up to the counter and try to place my order. The French toast had to be brought out by the cook and the inept server didnt give me water, utensils nor the latte. After breakfast, I had to go to the counter to pay and the latte and water still had not arrived. The food wasnt even that great. This was the most pathetic service that I have encountered so far . . . There werent even that many customers there but the service was just horrendous. Not going back for sure.
