  1. Wonderful, beautiful food AND drink. Thanks so much!
  2. I just got home from work, fixed some food, and set up my laptop in front of my dinner to read while I eat..... I wish I had some Rachel-like words to give my thanks, here at Thanksgiving week, for the perfect eG blogger on this occasion. Y'all, as she would say, are putting it into words, so add "inspiring" to the many descriptions we have for Rachel. ...And add stunning photography to captivating, beautiful prose when we are talking about her talents. Best of all, she is genuine and sincere -- she has a real appreciation of food and drink and all it means. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, with special thanks to Rachel.
  3. Next Feature: Coming to America Well, we are in America for the current blog, so I guess that would be more properly put by saying it is Staying in America for the next blog. I can also tell you with complete confidence that the next eG foodblogger will do it up properly during the blog week of 20 November 2006 through 26 November 2006. It is Thanksgiving week, so the foodblog calendar was crying out for an American blog. The eGullet Society has many members to be thankful for, and the member who will be blogging is one for whom much appreciation and thanks has been expressed on the forums. Here is a glimpse for you of the glimpse that our blogger sees, looking out over the city... Thinking thankful thoughts... Sorry about the mushiness, but I get like this at Thanksgiving, so I am taking the opportunity to say thank you to everyone who contributes to The eGullet Society in any way, making it the great organization and food & drink community that it is. So, any guesses?
  4. Pontormo guessed the current blogger, but kept it quiet to see if anybody else did! The next blogger is not only a surprise, but an introduction of sorts. We are going back to North America. Here's a Taco-Teaser! It starts on Monday, 13 November 2006, and promises to be fun.
  5. I agree! Way too long... This was one of my favorite topics. It's interesting that you mentioned the impression of your last Cabrales. It's probably been my overall favorite since I first discovered it, but the last time I had it, which was a month or two ago, I was terribly disappointed. You described how it was for me. What's up with that? Just a coincidence, do you think, or is there something vulnerable about Cabrales and I never had the bad luck before?
  6. The next blog is scheduled to begin Monday, 6 November 2006. I fear it would be easy for me to give away the location with clues; it is a popular place for eG foodblogs, and a "back by popular demand" area. To tease you, pictures of what you are likely to see in the blog (here, before making it to the table): Food Wine
  7. She sure is mine, too, and now I have another eGullet idol to add to the list. All I can say about this blog is that it is just too cool. Thank you, Mei!
  8. I just can't believe this, and I don't know what to say. He had invited me to visit him, and meet in person. My very first impression of him was so good. He helped me plan eating spots for the roadtrip I took with my son and then-girlfriend. Afterwards, when I had been so impressed by the beer cheese soup at the Moab Brewery, he made it a point to get the recipe from the chef and he sent it to me. I so enjoyed our email and PM correspondences. And of course the eG foodblog... I wish I had more eloquent words to say, but truly I am shocked and at a loss for words. Even not having met in person, I know what a wonderful person he was, and he touched my life in a very special way.
  9. I don't think anybody will guess this blogger, so already, here are the hints. What does the above photo have to do with food? The next blogger is currently living in this home, which used to be a butchershop (in the 1600s). What is the location of the next blog? If all goes as planned, it will be brought to us from three countries! What kind of food might the blogger be cooking? The blogger might not cook any of it. It begins on Monday, 30 October.
  10. Yes, it is. And so it begins..... As Danielle's continues through its last full day.....
  11. When the next eG foodblog starts, we will have the unusual occurence of a full day of overlap. This will enable the next blogger to share a special occasion with us. It starts this Sunday, the 22nd. Danielle's will continue through Sunday, as well. I'm sure you will stay tuned to Danielle's, welcome the start of another, and enjoy them both. One of the things that the two of these blogs have in common is that they both come from great food cities. We wondered if this photo would be too obvious a hint. Who can guess the city, even if not the blogger?
  12. Yum... That's the word that describes this blog! It seems to have become traditional for us eG foodblog fans to share our experiences with the locales of our bloggers, so here's mine about Chicago... I've been there three or four times. There was a time in my career that I attended an annual conference that was held in Chicago every year, and it turned out to be my favorite big city to visit. Great food and great beer bars and brew pubs... and I loved the hours for the bars with jazz and blues. I think it was in Chicago that I stayed out (and awake) the lastest ever in my life, like 4 or 5:00 in the morning. Of course, I was younger then, and probably could not stay awake now if I was given the opportunity to party hearty like that. And, another connection is that my step-daughter is a law student at DePaul. I don't know one neighborhood from another in Chicago, but she and her husband now live in Lake View East. Thank you in advance for what is going to be a fascinating week!
  13. I'm sorry the preview of the next blog is delayed. It's my bad, not that of the next blogger, who begins Monday morning. This eG foodblog takes us completely back to the USA. This is a door: Let's pretend it's a stargate and take a look beyond: Tune in on Monday morning to enjoy more culinary exploration and discoveries. Those of you who like to see the appearance of kids in our eG foodblogs will especially enjoy this blog.
  14. I can't thank you and applaud you enough, Judith. This one truly did leave me speechless. It was way more than worth the wait. The very best to you and yours.....
  15. We have a great Super Target here, and I probably like it too much! It's where I get certain good produce that's harder to find elsewhere, like celery root, fennel, baby-sized vegetables, and fresh oriental ingredients... and, Smart Chicken! I'm not much for prepared meals, and I make most of my own sauces and glazes, so I probably wouldn't buy any of his line of foods. They have been on our Target shelves for quite a long time. On a similar note, I went to Applebee's one night last week, and there was Tyler Florence on the cover of the menu.
  16. I am hoping to go with my sister-in-law, so I appreciate the info ahead of time. Thanks!
  17. There are some similarities between the next eG foodblog and the current one. This is where some cooking will be done. And this is some of the equipment that will be used. 'Nuf said. ...'Cept that Judith's lovely blog will end late Sunday night, and the next one will begin early Monday morning.
  18. This title sure grabbed my attention! I'm now in the midst of my second divorce, and my first divorce from my 27 year-old son's father was like Marlene described hers, as far as Michael was concerned. Later all four of us parents dined together with him to celebrate special occasions through school, college, OCS, Winging, etc. When he was small, food was different at his dad's -- more "homestyle" and less variety, but he ate well. He had an appreciation of the different lifestyles... But as an adult he turned out more like me (yay! ), and enjoys foods and wines his father has never heard of. This time, there was no question about such things. Russ and I don't have kids together. I have custody of the grand dog and he has visitation priviledges.
  19. Was that URL meant to inform us of a mail order source? I checked it out and didn't find any info on pork belly. Thanks. So far, Niman Ranch is the only source for ordering I've found.
  20. I've been extra busy this week and so I've been following your blog more quietly than I do most. However, I can't go without saying that I'm blown away by how good it is! I'd probably be speechless if I did have the time to make comments. Right now I'm so impressed by your advanced preparation and seeming coolness and calmness in entertaining, with such a menu! I could never, ever pull it off, what you're doing. Thanks for the added time-consuming task of blogging throughout it all.
  21. Two I've had recently are Duchesse de Bourgogne, the Belgian I've enjoyed more than any to date, in my determination to develope more of an appreciation for them; and Sweet Water Brewing Company 420 Extra Pale Ale, from Georgia. I'm most curious to hear if any of you have had that Belgian and what impressions of it you had.
