It is a gorgeous day in Millersville PA. The sun is shining and the pork is smoking. I have pictures that I can't upload. I imagine it is something on my end, but I'm not sure. I love ImageGullet. Today at least, it seems not to love me ← just finished a lovely meal of smoked pork. It came off the WSM at 201 internal after 12 hours 30 minutes and it was perfect. I have lots of leftovers and some is destined for the freezer as well. I regret my pictures would not post. To all my fellow smokers, Susan, Marlene, Abra, Ronnie, Chris, Emma, Dave and everyone else. Smoke that pork, kids. This topic has sort of drifted off the radar, but don't stop smoking. I just love this stuff.

Point taken. I must add that I believe it is the skill and use of the tool by the operator that leads to the highest level of satisfaction not the size of the tool. I'm sure the same applies to muddling as well.

tomorrow is the day, gave the smoker a good cleaning today and we are going to market after I finish some yard work. Yes butt will be smoking here tomorrow. Weather is forecasted to be perfect Sunday, it will be nice to smoke in good weather

42 bucks? It may be great, it certainly looks great, but for that price I'd expect it to be nuclear powered or something. I just cannot for the life of me imagine that it muddles that much better than my 6 dollar one I have been using for years

Yes, you can add it to your basket. However, when you try to go through the checkout process, the punsch will be removed from your basket, "due to customs reasons". Or at least that's what has happened the last few times I've tried. As I recall Doc just the bag but then the legal ramifications of the bag's content's complicates things. BUT you can always hear when people are walking on eggshells, someone obviously looked in the bag as soon as it was found. I am just interested in the legal issues not to crucify anyone. One gets liquored up and one looses ones laptop. It is the American way to litigate someone else to recover said laptop, or the cost of it. Unlike Mr. Shaw I am not an attorney and cannot comment as to the legal issues here. However, it seems personal responsibility may be the deciding factor to me.

I drove down to Hershey today, stopped in Lewisburg to find something for a late lunch - and there in the deli case at Weis was Lebanon and sweet bologna (seltzer brand). I was given a taste of each and very quickly went over to find a nice roll. I made a fine sandwich with a mixture of half each Lebanon and sweet and some mustard. You are so right, this is lovely stuff. I'll have to take a good sized chunk home. But, I also like very much the sweet bologna fried with some cheese and spicy mustard. Its even better if you can find some pretzel bread to eat it on. Also, as a sidenote, the Kunzler factory is in Palmyra, the next town over from Hershey. They used to have a little store there, but I'm not sure if it is still open or not. Kerry, I just thought of something else. If you take the route we had discussed, and you find yourself heading back home North on Rt. 72, you'll see a store on the right hand side of the road called S. Clyde Weaver. They have a lot of smoked meats and cheeses there that you might be interested in. The store is about a mile north of the Saigon Cafe right on Rt. 72. It is a pretty store sitting in between several car dealerships. I believe it is right next to and after the Ford dealership. My wife the plain Lebanon. My late father loved the lebanon and did not care for the sweet. The guy I work with, who is fron Lebanon, prefers the sweet. They are both great and Seltzers is a fine brand. Other brands you may see include, Kunzlers, Baums, Weavers amongst others. I hope your drive was not to difficult due to the wind and rain I do hope you can take some home. I also hope the border guards do not consider it contraband of some sort

lancaster may be too FAR west for your purview, however, Rosa-Rosa Restaurant on Harrisburg Pike near the F&M campus has a lovely courtyard for dining. Worth mentioning is that the food pretty much sucks

The Circular Dining Room at the Hotel Hershey is a lovely place. The gardens outside of this room are beautiful. Not sure what may be in bloom there now with the cold weather, but both are worth a try. I know many people who enjoy the zoo at Hershey, but I can't personally attest to it. Many years ago they gave real tours of the chocolate factory. Now they have "Chocolate world" which is not the same thing. Big controversy in Hershey these days is the elimination of hundreds of jobs by Hershey Corporation in favor of expanding production in Mexico. The union just agreed to the elimination of these jobs and the company agreed to keep production going in Hershey. Right now, feelings are still running high. I have been conversing with a bunch of other famous Canadians about a local delicacy know as Lebanon bologna and the inability to obtain it north of the border. It is really wonderful stuff and I talked about it in my foodblog that is linked in my signature line. You really should try some

Was never a fan of champagne cocktails till I had my first Seelbach: 3/4 ounce bourbon 1/2 ounce Cointreau 7 dashes Angostura bitters 7 dashes Peychaud's bitters 4 ounces chilled brut Champagne 1 orange twist, for garnish This is one outstanding drink. It seems like way too much bitters to be good, but love this.

Hershey to Lancaster is not really that far. Can easily be made in a little more than 30 minutes. In PA liquor is sold at stores owned by the state. The selection is mostly the same no matter which store you go to. The Premium Collection stores do have a greater selection. There is one in Lancaster and several in Dauphin County which includes the one in Hummelstown, which would be the closest one to Hershey. If you would get to Lancaster, Rice and Noodles on the Lititz Pike just north of Lancaster has lots of soups and is the best of the kind in the area. The folks who run this had a place in New Orleans that was damanged by Katrina that was very popular. The WSM is a wonderful thing. However, you can't really grill with it which means you need something else. I love the WSM, and back it up with a propane grill.

I was just watching the PCN [Pennsylvania Cable Network] call in show with the secretary of corrections. And yes I know that is a pretty lame thing to be doing. However, of note was the announcement that next Wednesday at 7:30pm Joseph Conti and Patrick Stapelton of the LCB will be taking calls. Not sure if your cable system carries the PCN, but if so, tune in and dial them up. I'm sure they would love to get lots of calls from e-gullet LCB fans

On another site there was some discussion about this. Does Rolling Rock taste the same now as it always did? There were some who said it did not but many of those folks were talking from nostalgia not real taste. We all bemoan the closure of the Latrobe brewery, but does the beer taste any different? A/B is well known for adjunct brewing. Was Rolling Rock from Latrobe adjunct brewed? Is it adjunct brewed by A/B. I will say I tasted no real difference. RR was never any great beer, but was always popular in my area. Any thoughts by those more learned than I am.?

OK - here's the scoop on the Luxardo Maraschino. The distributor is indeed currently out of stock. It seems that Luxardo Maraschino has gotten a few high profile nationwide corporate placements at a few hotel chains (Marriott is one) as well as at Capital Grill. Hence, the limited supply in PA is being fought over by several bigger fish now, as well as the smaller independent restaurants and consumers that wish to place an SLO for it. The other excellent Luxardo products are still in stock so you can order the Amaretto, Sambuca, Triplum or the new Sambuca Cream (I'll definitely be looking into this) right now. Maraschino should be back in stock within two weeks. I'll be getting a personal phone call from my local representative from Laird Wine & Spirits so I'll give you all the heads up when that happens.
