    Cornish Hens

I really like them butterflied and marinated in any number of things and either barbecued, broiled or cooked under a brick. I like garlic and balsamic sometimes as a marinade. My mother stuffs them with Wild rice and uses orange juice in the cooking, but I don't have that recipe. They are even good with regular ole barbecue sauce in the oven.
  3. Yauatcha is FANTASTIC for dimsum but the prices are insane. I think we paid 100 quid for 2 people. Including service.
  4. 'A Day in the Life' blogs are just as good as any!! Looking forward to your next meals.
  5. There is a pretty good Taco shop in Notting Hill called Taqueria. The service is atrocious (in my opinion only,) but the tacos are very good. The only thing I truly found bad was the housemade Chorizo. I was once talking to Mexican gal who worked in a restaurant at Borough Market and I asked for a rec and she said there is a great place called 'Red and Green' or something like that. I never went, nor did I even look it up. Edit: SPELLING!
  6. Am I wrong in assuming this is The Uk's Golden Syrup? If not, light brown yet clear.
  7. It's been a great blog. Thank you so much for doing it and thank you so much for bringing it back!
  8. We make a couple of different versions of pasta sauce with canned crab. The can costs like 5 euros though! Sadly, no fresh crab to be had in these here parts.....
  9. I HATE tomato sauce made from tomato puree with my fish. They absolutely don't belong together. I find it literally digusting and I am a BIG fish/shellfish eater. However, light tomato flavor that comes from a handful of fresh tomatoes or a couple of whole peeled but canned tomatoes I think is delicious.
  10. I was given a stocking stuffer one year. A garlic peeler. Some kind of tube. you put the garlic in and rub it on the counter it supposedly loosens the peel. It doesn't work.
  11. sometimes I steal a bite of floured salted browned meat before starting the braise. Mmmmm..... Heehee
  12. Allergic to Melon. And possitively Jealous when someone eats in front of me!
  13. I would like a brisket sandwich with Russian dressing too, FG. On Rye. Thank you.
  14. Italy isn't really big on sandwiches. Don't get me wrong, you can get one on every corner. But they are all the same: two fat pieces of bread with a couple of skinny slices of a cold cut or tomato and mozzarella etc. Not saying you can't get a good sandwich, but still. I LOVE sandwiches, interesting or boring...but the bread in all cases has to be good. I make them on purpose. Not just with leftovers. heehee. Does a hot dog sandwich count? That is, a sliced hot dog on crusty Italian bread? If so, I had one for dinner tonight. I do make sandwiches all the time. I can't wait for my son to start eating them! It will sure make my life easier!
  15. 28 flipping quid?! Blimey. David, I bought one last year from Moseley Farmers, i think it was about a fiver. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you this year. I know, and totally not in line with the rest of their prices. I think the next most expensive thing on the menu is about 14 or 15 quid. I opted for a roast beef sandwich for 8.50 which was delicious. For what it's worth, the dish sounded nice. Stuffed I think with stuffing made with it's liver, bread sauce....
  16. It was on special at the Cadogan Arms this week. 28 GBP. We didn't have it though.
  17. For me, it was eggs benedict. Alone with no help. Got to toast the muffin, poach the egg, fry the ham, all while making hollandaise sauce. It was a killer for me. I'm just not that good of a cook. It was delicious though.....
  18. I walked by Ishbilia yesterday and decided against it because of the dining room. It looks like it wants to be upscale, but doesn't have all the components together yet. I guess that makes little sense. But Harters review explains it!! His experience was my worst fear about it! I walked by Noura and it's more like a cafe/deli. I'd like to try it. I tried a place on King's Rd. Al-Dar? I think? It was hideous. The people were very nice though!
  19. oh, was it prawn then? It wasn't my dish I'm afraid so I really only tasted it a bit of the risotto!! haha!!
  20. Finally went last night. I'm afraid by sheer coincidence though, we ordered all the same things!! We loved the risotto even though it was just a bit too creamy (as in CREAM) but just loved that little touch of was it Pernod? in the background. Glad it had actual pieces of lobster in it! We order the mac and cheese for my son, but he ate the risotto! We had the most divine Creamed Spinach. Perfectly spinachy and creamy. We ordered the Ceasar Salad and the burgers. All excellent. The burger reminded me of the burger at Spotted Pig in NYC. Delicate, Medium Rare, Perfect mince. I was going to order the lobster bisque and asked the waiter what he thought, he said "....it's good" and I said that he didn't sound very convincing. And he said the only thing he doesn't like on the menu is the Pate. For some reason, I still changed my order. Chips were also very good. But we didn't have much room for them. Beer Crisp and Cold and best Pinot Noir by the glass I've had in ages. Excellent, excellent, excellent service by staff as a whole. Very kind to my son who thankfully was well behaved. The place was full of business men having business dinners.
  21. Oh good, Mayfair is much more convenient for me. I'll report back!
  22. Thank you! This is at the City Location, right?
  23. Ok, I'm sold. Do you think it would someplace we could go with a toddler?(Lunch or Early dinner of course.)
  24. I wanted to report back that we did in fact eat at Tom's Kitchen. It's literally steps from where we are staying and as as we were walking by, it started raining. So on a whim, we popped in and asked if they had a table for us (it was early!) We landed up having a decent meal. I had sole cooked in lemon parsely butter with capers, raisins and a poached egg. It was quite good. My husband had lamb saddle over Israeli couscous and my son finished off a whole dish of excellent macaroni and cheese. I would say it was very good, not mind blowing. Starters were completely unmemorable, both having crab, both being insipid. We had lemon cheesecake to finish. Extremely kid friendly though. They gave us a little bag with crayons, coloring pages and even a little game. They also had high chairs and the staff showered my son with attention. It was a nice evening. Thank you for all the recommendations! Am planning to hit some of those places in the next few weeks!
  25. Thank you for the suggestions! BTW, I've seen that market in Duke of York, although I didn't eat anything because I was just getting over a stomach virus. Will definitely have to go back! Thanks for reminding me!
