  1. Do you mean this is basically a take-out place? At first I didn't understand what you meant by it having "no sit-down dining whatsoever" but then I figured that's what it meant. Correct?
  2. Try this menton: Bangkok Garden vs Wondees Nick After reviewing the linked thread, another major difference was mentioned but not emphasized. Bangkok Garden is open on Mondays, Wondee's is not.
  3. Of course. I've always wondered why they called themselves that.
  4. Why? I've noticed many people apologizing for long posts. A long post is usually a well thought out post and much more beneficial to the boards than multiple one-liners.
  5. I thought of the same thing, a paint pail, when you mentioned brining the turkey. That's what I used to soak and transport my overseasoned sausages from Klink.
  6. I was going to let it drop, but then I said to myself, "nah." So, I reviewed both this thread and the one that started it all (see the first post in this thread for a link) and the only times ever batted about were noon and 12:30. So there.
  7. Now that I'm curious about. I like that store, why do you refer to it as a joke?
  8. Copyright violation!!! What's even funnier than this "recipe" are the comments beneath it, here's a link.
  9. The punch list is the final checklist of stuff you need them to do before you will get off their backs. It is commonly used term in new home construction and remodeling. Regarding pictures, I am waiting for everything to be completed so I can unveil the kitchen in one fell swoop.
  10. We already talked about it, see this thread about cutlery, where it was briefly discussed. Meanwhile, I am moving this to the NJ, but leaving a link in the Media forum because this discussion was sparked by an article at another website.
  11. I am posting this on behalf of Yvonne Johnson and Priscilla, who will be leading the discussion of our first selection. In another thread they suggested starting an eGullet book club. It was decided that Near a Thousand Tables: A History of Food by Felipe Fernandez-Armesto (published by The Free Press in June 2002) would be the first book discussed. If it is not available in at your local library, here is a link to buy the book on Amazon. To give everyone interested time to get a copy of the book, the discussion will begin on November 25th, and will be dealing with about one chapter per week. Please contain all discussion about this book to this one thread.
  12. Dodge - I am now asking you to stop trashing the Record at every turn. We get it. You don't like their reviews. Noted. Frankly, I don't understand why you subscribe to a paper you don't like. Please note, I am not asking for, nor do I want an answer to that, it is rhetorical. Now, as for the reviews, I only read the one about Cinque Figlie. While on the whole, it sounds fair - the reviewer didn't seem to sample any of their signature dishes. These being the red pepper soup, the black risotto (or black linguini) with seafood, or the striped farfalle pasta (not made in house, but prepared especially for the restaurant). Chef Joe has a way with squid ink.
  13. Here's the pictures from our lunch: Seared Pepper Crusted Tuna Tuna sashimi with Spicy Orange Sauce Boat of Special Rolls with Nigiri Sushi in the background - the nigiri was my favorite part of the meal. I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of that platter. It consisted of red and white tuna, beautifully sliced salmon showing the stripes of fat, spanish mackeral, and amaebi (sweet shrimp). Attendees (from left to right): RockADS21, Rosie and Lowell Saferstein, Lou Reda, Kim WB, Suzanne (lreda's girlfriend). RPerlow taking the photo.
  14. OK, OK, I've been getting requests for updates. Painters are finished in the kitchen, but one of the bedrooms had to be put on hold due to a leak in the roof that evidenced itself during all the recent rain. Anyway, back to the kitchen. The only things that are missing are the light switches/electrical sockets and their plates. There is a new design available from Lutron with not just stainless steel plates, but ss switches & sockets. There was a question about whether that is suitable/safe for use around a sink. Many calls back and forth between contractor/electrician and town electrical inspector. Verdict was that it wouldn't be against code. However, the questioning delayed ordering of these items. Also, the questioning led to my being nervous about getting this particular design. So, we're going with the stainless steel plates, but greyish plastic switches & sockets. These have been ordered and will be installed as soon as they get in. It's really just these small last punch list items, essentially the kitchen is finished - it is at least completely usable. Since the painting is done, I'll be unpacking all my stuff that's been stored in the garage all this time! And, yeah, in five years we probably will be doing a bathroom.
  15. There is a garage right across the street from the restaurant, but I got ripped off there the night a bunch of us previewed the menu. $65!!! I mean come on? I know it's a big SUV, but that's ridiculous.
  16. If you could make a big gnarly looking tree with a car crashed into it (the top part of the tree, not the trunk), that would be cool and current.
  17. Busted! Didn't look hard enough! You should know by now that no one searches the internet with more obsessiveness than me!
  18. tommy, please don't call people names. Also, according to yp.yahoo, listed under Grocery Stores: Maywood Market Place 78 W Pleasant Ave, Maywood, NJ 07607 Phone: (201) 843-8361
  19. Is Mrs. Tommy not coming? Perhaps my suggestion for the drinks table & tubs of ice should have been PMed to Suvir. It was something, I, as an organizer of other events, have found useful. Just as I find it useful to work out a price beforehand, and collect the money at the beginning of the evening. This level of detailed planning prevents the price of a meal being double what was expected, for example, and helps the evening run smoothly.
  20. Lou, I've received cancellations from Poots and Pitter via PMs, so bring the count down to 7. The rest of you are missing out!
  21. Well, we did it that way at the Thai dinner in NJ and it worked out very well. Of course, some wine bottles moved to tables, but it was fun for many to sample the variety of beers & ciders people brought. Of course, if you're going to be selfish...
  22. Suvir or whomever collects the money - have an RSVP list with you to check off names as you are paid. That's why I suggested exchanging payment for nametags. The names on the tags that are left, you know haven't paid yet. It would be nice if there were a separate drinks table, with a tub of ice on top in which to insert bottles of wine and beer. Promotes sharing and leaves more room on the tables for the food.
  23. I think with this many people, half of whom haven't met about half of them nametags are pretty necessary. The strongbox probably isn't. The amount due is pretty easy to collect exact change. I'm sure an envelope will suffice.
  24. A little cheese is good, too. As is a soft-cooked egg. And scallions. And country ham. And mushrooms. MY GOD, grits are the ultimate food!!!! Both of you would love Fink's restaurant in River Edge, NJ. He's got great grits - may even be worth the detour if you're ever visiting NYC.
  25. But do you still eat them now? That's the question.
