  1. Aw, come on, I already posted the wubby smilie! Whaddya want? Hopefully your sense of galantry will force the recipe out of you when I tell you that, without it, my guests are getting Ocean Spray out of a can!
  2. Regular AP flour? Does the cauliflower have to be deep fried? I was thinking it had a similar taste to the roasted caulflower Jim Dixon made popular on this site. So, I thought it would be an acceptable variation to break up the head into florets, marinate as you describe, maybe adding a little oil to encourage crispiness, roast at high heat until lightly browned, then stirfry, etc., as described above. Besides saving the calories, I just hate the mess and smell of deep frying things at home. Opinions?
  3. Is the reason you haven't posted the recipe for the Apple-Cranberry Chutney because it is going to be in your upcoming book? or is it in another book? If these are the reasons you won't post it then the following applies. In another thread, you told me to call you and you'll tell me the recipe, would you mind sending it to me via email? Thanks.
  4. OK, fine stop begging. I called. BTW - their number is very easy to remember, for future reference it is 1-800-WEGMANS. The store is scheduled to open until late-2003, but that is not absolute. The representative I spoke to said they don't know (or haven't been informed?) which specialty departments will be included in the Woodbridge store at this point in time. Sorry. For those concerned about which departments this future store will or won't have, there is a customer service link on Wegmans' website. Why don't you send them a message letting them know you plan on shopping at the new location and tell them which departments are important to you. Since it sounds like they are still in the planning stages your input may be very much appreciated.
  5. I've merged three "review" discussion into this thread. There are a few more threads out there (about the NYTimes) that didn't seem appropriate for this thread.

That's probably why I didn't know which sweetness level the wine I brought was it didn't say it on the bottle (or it did and I didn't recognize the phrase). Good to know.

Suvir - is there a recipe for that Apple Cranberry Chutney on eGullet or elsewhere? I'm thinking of making it for Thanksgiving.

I brought a 1996 Alsatian Riesling, I believe it was a Kabinett (it had about that level of sweetness, but I didn't write it down and don't have the label. Someone talked about alcohol levels and their reaction with spicy foods. One of the reasons Rieslings go so well with the heat is that they have a very low alcohol level and therefore do not react as strongly as wines with higher levels. The other reason is the sweetness. I have finished editing the Imagestation album, adding pictures of people too. If there is anyone who didn't manage to get out of frame and doesn't want their photo online, please PM me and I'll blur you out. I am going to work on adding the actual images to my first post on page 1 of this thread, so that they aren’t lost in the middle, so just click the 1 in the upper left hand corner of the thread to find them. They should be there in an hour or so.

Stefany - I respectfully disagree. What is the point of publicly posting an RSVP list then? We could all just PM the organizer and they could post (or not) how many people are coming. I am not suggesting in any way that this be done. I feel that an RSVP list is a good thing and it is only polite to publicly acknowledge your intention to attend an event. Suvir is right, this is not the place to debate this issue, so I'm done commenting about it here.

Kim - I agree with Nina. Let this please be the end of this part of the discussion. Everyone - In future, all eGullet members planning on attending eGullet events should publicly RSVP. The only people who should be able to RSVP anonymously are those guests that are attending with an eGullet member, like spouses, hence references like Mr. or Mrs. MemberName. Everyone should be able to make informed decisions when deciding to attend a publicly announced event. [unsolicited advice] In addition, my preference when attending face-to-face events is to be gracious and welcoming to everyone, even if we are currently not getting along online. IMO, it makes for a more pleasant evening for everyone. That is all. [/unsolicited advice] More pictures are coming soon. Do I need to link the images here, or is leaving them on the imagestation album acceptable?

i was dining with my wife and mother-in-law and jason and jon lurie walked in. that was a long time ago. Ah yes, but that was not an "official eGullet event" it was a dinner where eGullet folk happened upon one another. And I wasn't there.

In those narrow terms, yes Rosie, but I would be doing a disservice to my family if I didn't mention that the fruit of my loins made a brief appearance at the Official eGullet drinking session at Zum Schneider, and has attended more than one unofficial eGullet-type dinner. She may never recover from the sight of Nina eating the feet of a guinea pig. Thanks for the information. I am happy to be in # 2 place. You are officially the first person to have their family at an eGullet event. My parents joined Jason and myself at the NJ Italian Dinner. I think that was before the Zum Schneider lush-fest.
  14. Put me down as a firm "probably"
  15. Did you want "out of the ordinary" as in interesting, unique and not necessarily expensive, or out of the ordinary, as in extraordinary. In the later case I would agree about The Manor and The Hilton at Short Hills, both are excellent, if expensive. I would also recommend Pierre's in Harding/Morristown. But, I'm not sure if they have a Sunday brunch, I know they have a great lunch buffet, but I'm not sure if they offer it on Sunday, and it isn't expensive.

I'll add the photos directly into this post when I have more time. For now, the pictures of the food only are in the Diwan Album on Imagestation.com. I missed a couple of the items, those with photos in the album are marked with an asterisk.* Spinach & Lentil Cake* Bhel Puri on Tawa Samasas Chaat on Tawa* Beggars Purse* (papadum stuffed with lump crabmeat, my favorite) Shrimp Balchao* Basil Chicken* Lahsuni Gobi* (Cauliflower cooked in indo-chinese style, my other favorite) Lamb and Wild Boar Chops* (with Apple cranberry chutney and mint rice) Karai Bhinidi* (Crispy Okra) Venison Chop* (Fenugreek scented venison, cranberry sauce, spiced potatoes) Raita, Dal, Naan bread Sheer Khurma* (Vermicelli pudding with pistachios, charoli nuts, almonds and saffron) Malai Pista Kulfi* (Indian Ice Cream with pistachio and cardmom) Edit: I am adding the photos here so that they don't get lost in the middle of this already 5 pages long thread, and of course they are all viewable in an album format by clicking the link above. If there is anyone who didn't manage to get out of frame and doesn't want their photo online, please PM me and I'll blur you out. First the food then the people... 17. Yes, but Aaron T should come before Anonymous 1.
  18. The current RSVP list is towards the bottom of page 16.
  19. I'm going to pin this message to the top of the NY index until I get home tonight.
  20. More info please!
  21. Yeah! No fair mentioning a "bagel shop" in two large towns and not giving a name, let alone a location!
  22. I think Helena is closer to Kim, and I am closer to Rosie. Is anyone else coming from Bergen County? Could we have an updated RSVP list posted? Thanks.
  23. I merged several of these similar threads together.
  24. I just realized that we never cancelled Jason's RSVP. He's on a plane on his way to Las Vegas right now. Found out last week that his company needed him to go to Comdex. I will still be attending. Helena and I are trying to work out a carpool. Who's coming from NJ besides the two of us and the Safersteins?
  25. I DID IT!!! New wonderful board feature for you all to go and praise in the Site Comments forum. Those links above won't work because all the Rebecca's threads are now here. In chronological order regardless of thread. Yippee!
