  10. Dishwashers making 29 bucks an hour!?!? Are they performing surgery while they scrub pots? No wonder he wants to leave the location and the unions behind. As a side note, yesterday in the Times' Real Estate section, it was mentioned that Andre Soltner is selling the Lutece building and moving somewhere else in the city. The building is up for $4 million, and the apartment he bought was around $800k. He still owns his Hunter Mtn. home, where he says he does all of his entertaining. Chef Soltner, if you are reading this, I would love to come to your next dinner party.

    Per Se

We were also there Saturday night. We decided to go for the expanded 2x2 tasting, which a few posters on this board mentioned. Some said it was the same price, others mentioned it was 25 dollars more, and one person said it was 100 dollars more. Ours was 100 dollars more, but it seemed like more courses than we normally would have received. Overall it was about 14 courses, after the three or four amuse bouches that were sent out. Among other things were a whole roast chicken, lamb prepared four different ways, and cod and bass "shanks". Everything of course was terrific. Nothing was stale. We were not served any soiled ingredients. I can't wait until I'm done washing dishes to pay the tab! Anthony

    FASCINO

Fantastic, please let us know what you think...I love Fascino, but havent been in over a month. I haven't even seen the new menu, so I am curious what they are serving... Order the polenta fries as soon as you sit down as a little snack while you look over the menu..A little tip from our leader, Rosie... A
  13. Never heard that one before...can I use that?? Here in Jersey, we have Maggie Moo's, which is the same concept of taking run of the mill ice cream and mixing stuff into it. They make it more palatable by not singing.... We're eating at per-se tomorrow, I was thinking of asking Chef Keller to belt out his version of L.L. Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out"
  14. Well, I got my Rancilio Rocky from Aabree today. WOW! This is a serious grinder. Very heavy construction, very tall, and a quite a nice looking piece of equipment (I got the stainless steel one). The only hard (fun) part now is to figure out which of the infinite settings I like best for my drip machine and espresso. Also, does anyone know how to take the doser off without breaking anything? Anthony PS- Phaelon, thanks again for the recommendation...

  16. Last night was a blast...Cheers to Linda and Art for providing a wonderful meal. I still pretty tired, but will post my thoughts later... Mrs. Tommy is DA BOMB...I gotta hang out with her more often...OK with you Tommy?
  17. Fantastic reply, thanks Phaelon... another edit...have you used these or do you have first hand knowledge of the static issue with these grinders? I hate all those grinds flying around when I open it up...
  18. I have a small burr grinder that does a so-so job of grinding, but produces a lot of annoying static. Of course when I open the top of the grinder, little coffee grinds go shooting everywhere, making a mess...The lousy performance of this grinder is prompting me to get a new one. Any suggestions for an electric model if money is not the main concern?? edit: I would like this grinder to work for both espresso grind and auto drip, but depositing the grinds into a portafilter is not a requirement...

    Chakra

A friend of mine ate at Chakra last night. His impression was overly negative. In a nutshell, the service was lousy, the food was average (two items needed to be sent back) and the prices were quite outrageous. The decor, he said, was quite nice and the only attractive thing about the place. He adamantly said he would not go back.... Anyone else have similar experience? Was this a bad night for Chakra or the norm? Tommy, you have any updates?? Anthony

I don't have anything to add except Until June 6th...
  21. 7:30 is what I was thinking. I told Linda we would be there then....Is everyone agreed on this?
  22. Yes Tommy, there is a 2 dollar surcharge for all of this attention. For you Art History majors, that makes 50 dollars, per person, plus tip and tax. So, to answer Curlz' question, bring cash, but I don't know exactly how much it will be precisely with tip and so on. We like these people, so we will want to be generous with the tip...We'll figure it out when we get there... A
  23. Yeah, and Al Gore invented the internet, so let's give him props every time we check our e-mail I do agree with you though, Amy and I will sit far away from Mike and Joanne...
