We tried to get in as walkins last night around 6pm. No dice, though Gwynneth Paltrow followed behind me as I left. Fashion week is here!

Sounds like il Capo to me....heck, the whole description sounds like il Capo's description of itself...

Thanks for the endorsement of what really is a great local charity. Though we live in NJ, Amy and I truly enjoy helping this charity in their quest to help all New Yorkers live a better life....

To me, the only hype word that annoys me more than "organic" is "gourmet". "Gourmet Olive Oil" "Organic Toilet Paper" "Gourmet Chocolate" "Organic blah-blah-blah" If given the choice between a conventional and organic foodstuff, I almost always buy the conventional. As someone mentioned, the vast price difference is rarely worth it. And it makes me feel like a poser, like I really care about stuff like that

We just finished our Q from Barnstormer BBQ. That is some tasty barbecue. Geoff showed off his smoker while I was there. It was filled with soft, smoky, almost gelatinous pork shoulder. He offered me a sample straight from the smoker, for a moment I believed there was a place called heaven. Silky pork love... Sounds like the name of a rock band... Yeah, Newburgh is a pain in the ass to get to if you live in NYC, but if you are driving on the Thruway, its literally 2 minutes off the road....2 minutes for some really tasty Q is well worth it. On the way home from skiing or Rhinebeck or anywhere, it's the place to be... Mmmmm....silky pork love....

We stopped by a few weeks after the Pig Roast...The BBQ pork was fantastic. I got a sampler which included some BBQ chicken, which was so-so (I think it is chickens fault, it just shouldnt be bbq'ed). We will stop in this week on our way home from Red Hook (two exits and 34 miles north)

Village Green Fascino The others are a distant third My favorite non NJ or NYC restaurant? Mina in Red Hook NY
-
I'm not sure, but if anyone carries it, Corrado's in Clifton does. Also, I would give Fascino a call and ask them where they get their's from. Their distributor might then tell you which stores they sell to...

I've been tempted to buy a home roaster once we move into our new house (the house we live in now is so packed with stuff, my wife would kill me if I got one now). One issue I have with these roasters is smoke. Some people say they smoke, some say they don't. What is your experience with your previous model and (when you finally try it) the new one? Thanks!

I love hearing things like that...Just proves that sometimes things are worth more than their cost... Gotta get back to Epernay...

Does anyone know what the timeline for this case is? If oral arguments start today, when can we expect a ruling?

Hey Rosie, I know you are the big cheese around here, but why do your posts take up so much space??

Forgive me if you already know this, but Bolognese is almost always made with milk. I would guess that is where the creaminess is coming from. Sounds like a terrific restaurant, I will definately be making plans to check it out...

Let me ask you this, do you turn off the ringer on your home phones? If your home phone does ring during dinner, do you answer it? Is there a difference between the urgency in that call, and the urgency in a restaurant call? Do you exhibit bad manners when you answer your home phone during a meal? Is it the cellphone that makes you uncomfortable? Just curious
-
And there is the problem. In 1905 you would have looked at people driving cars as lazy, polluting, horse killers. What is wrong with a horse that we need those loud, smoky cars? Cellphones were pretentious over 15 years ago. Now, everyone has them. They are part of our culture. It isn't appropriate to think "People left their children for decades with a babysitter, and never had cellphones to keep in touch in real-time" The fact of the matter is that like all new technologies, the cellphone has gone from pretentious novelty to widespread necessity. If you don't think it is a necessity, then you just don't get what the 21st century is about. You're (I mean you in a general sense, not directing it at anyone) ticked off that cars today have all of these computers instead of a good old fashioned carburetor. Hey, that old Nova gets 11 miles to the gallon, spews tons of exhaust, and makes very little power compared to a modern computer controlled engine a fraction of its size. The point is, we begrudge advances in technology, but fail to really see how they improve our lives. Sure, it drives me nuts when some big honcho starts hollering into his cellphone while I am dining. I hate him for it, but I have a feeling I would hate that guy anyway. Lots of people are inconsiderate jerks. Some of us realize we can hold a conversation with the person sitting across from us or a person on the phone in the same tone of voice. Heck, I have a wireless earpiece that allows me to talk without even holding the phone. Are you going to complain then?? Oh wait, that's right, I am being rude to my table mates, and you just can't have that. PUH-LEEZ. On that subject, let me just say that often when I receive calls at dinner, the person sitting across from me (my wife) is just as interested in the call as I. We received news of our land purchase in a restaurant, as well as the rescue call for that cute fella that poses as my avatar. If I receive a call that shows the caller is just a friend or co-worker, and I can reasonably assess that the call is purely social, I don't take it. It WOULD be rude for me to interrupt my dinner and my dining mates' dinners. I have that sense, I don't need the restaurant, or eGullet posters, to tell me what is right and what is wrong.

fatmat, dude you are right on with everything. Thanks for saving me the time of all that typing... Cell phone savvy people know how to talk into their phones. They know how to hold a conversation which is indistinguishable from a face to face talk. Provided the people at the table don't mind, they should go for it. I think it would be worse for them to stand up in a rush, quickly excuse themselves, and dart for the bar or lounge to answer their call. This IS the 21st century, it's time people started living life like that and quit complaining. Reminiscing back to "the old days" should be saved for slide shows, not discussing technology and its sociological effects. I will take my cell phone and computer over a rotary and (well, computers replace so many things, I don't want to list just one). Don't even get me started about the jokers that complain about that little blinking 12:00 on their VCRs...

I've seen Whole Foods make nut butters out of non-peanuts. Maybe they can help you... Or just get some of their fresh honey roasted peanut butter....mmmm

My dad used to call it the "rondelet" Pretty gross Curlz...there's plenty of good chicken to not have to eat the ass... -
I have to agree with the previous posters. We had a lot of fun, but this place still needs work. 1) Service was terrible. We had to beg for water, an ice bucket, glasses. 2) The meat was good, but there was hardly any sear or color on it. Seemed almost poached to me 3) They need to invest in more tableware. They ran out of glasses, so freshly washed (read:HOT) were dispensed for my cabernet. Salads were plated on hot plates.. Buy more, that way the dishes aren't in constant rotation. 4) The creamed spinach had no cream, but lots of bacon. Tasted good, but not what I expected. 5) Service was terrible. 6) Service sucked.... But, we did have an impromptu birthday, which was cool. As always, its was fun meeting new people and talking about Tommy behind his back.

Ouch!! OK, I guess I will be the first one to post about tonight's very exclusive eGullet offline event at Mignon Steakhouse in Rutherford. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! We had a lot of fun, ate a lot of meat, hung out with some very nice people. Some talk about box and can...dunno what that was all about. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Anyway, more talk tomorrow about the food and such. Now I just need some sleep...

Don't worry Ghostrider, we'll get you loaded tonight. I'm bringing my 4-beer funnel and a case of Piels

Living in NYC, I can't see any reason to eat Godiva chocolates. With Payard, Jacques Torres, and two la Maison du Chocolat boutiques, Godiva is irrelevant. The slight premium in cost for quality chocolate will be more than worth it in terms of quality.

Thanks again for your thoughtful replies. Jujubee, your response was just what I was looking for.

Don't forget, we have a little Mignon get together this Saturday. We need more people!! Some have cancelled last minute due to other obligations. Meet new people!! Eat juicy steak!! Drink!! Reply here or PM me...
