  1. Did you double click too many times? I hope you pour wine like that too... 3oz = 15 oz!
  2. So, like, there is no mojito with pina. There's a mojito in theroy, and separately, at the same bar, there's fermented pineapple skin juice for a different cocktail that deserves attention. Okay. Sold. Ireland and Caribbean.
  3. See. Everyone likes my Q & A
  4. That's really sweet of you guys. Yep, I'll do something that no one has ever done before. I will have deviled eggs and a mojito and pork belly... Thrasher, do people that scuba like cocktails as much as wine generally? Can scuba influence booze preferences? All the pretty water = cocktails.
  5. Well, I already loves Ray's and know Michel* has soul. I am 120 hours away from living .486 miles from Ray's, so those eggs will be had. Or sorry, from dying .486 miles from Ray's.
  6. I don't do mojitos. But Todd has this fermented pineapple skin stuff going on behind the bar. Very interesting. And as for Eve having deviled eggs, I didn't see any on the menu. But I'll bet if you asked the chef, he could whip some really good ones up in no time. I'm curious why your curious about deviled eggs at Eve??? I don't get the connection with mojitos. Goodness, I didn't know pineapples went into mojitos. Subtle cool cucumbers, I can see, absorbing the (traditional) intensity of flavor and adding a little at the same time. But PIÑA!? Sure that's for a mojito? As for my obsession with deviled eggs (half joking), there are a few reasons for that. One is that I like the little suckers, but another is that I see them on menus now more than I can ever remember. I've eaten deviled eggs in some fine restaurants. Some are much better than others, some ridiculously expensive, some with truffles, some regular and honest... But to make good deviled eggs, you have to have soul. I know Irish people have soul, so I'm not that worried about Eve. "Joycean Eggs" **** And finally, I have personally, and personality goes a looooonnnnng way.
  7. I was thinking that might be the case... You didn't ask for one? So, does Eve have deviled eggs too?
  8. I'm going to keep this simple. Have you not tried Nectar? I too like Palena, so... Nectar is consistent and the service is wonderful. You'll feel well taken care of without the annoying hovering, and the food is awesome. Trust me, your hubby will be happy there. Read about it.

    tacos

No more Glut? Did it close?
  10. That's almost insulting. Yeah, I guess I rather eat tacos in my bed and pay bills...

    tacos

me too. That guy that's always there has a friendly smile and makes me feel extra welcome... I remember the tacos being quite good, but these days I go alone since it's close to where I live, and I'm really not a lone taco-eater. I save the big deal stuff for mis amigos. Get to know the soup and stews, though, I promise they're special... Or you can go to a swanky part of town and have some terrific tacos at Andale, washed down with one of their spot-on margaritas (I like the Slow Madador).
  12. DNC-Boston v. Donkey RW-Washington This is the first time in history a party convention and unconventional party have overlapped. Is Restaurant Week bipartisan?
  13. I say go someplace on the waterfront. One of the Mexican places on the water has to be satisfying. Never been to Cabanas and never been to Cantina Marina, but who's heard of a snobby Mexican joint? And what's better than beers/margs and cheesy, beany, meaty mess when ya need it? Austin Grill works.
  14. Busboy, thanks! I think mojitos at home are some of the best. I'm headed to a mojito-inspired dinner thing on Sat and I'm in charge of the cocktail. Will file report . On the other hand, I had two Hemingway mojitos at Ceiba last night, which I liked because of the name (ernesto and I share a birthday), but it wasn't as good as the ones I've had at Rumba Cafe or DG. Also, like the mojito martini at Firefly, but it has to be made by chef.
  15. But what does someone on 16th Street care about Clarendon? Just kidding... I feel sorry for the soles of my shoes when I walk around Mount Pleasant (aka The Cliffs of Hell), and Tonic offers relief from that. I went there last week, in the worst mood in the world, the same day I was robbed. I had like $20 or so in cash and needed cold beer fast. Smashed down some Stellas, tater tots and the side of spinach I like so much, and still had the coinage to tip the friendly, neighborly server appreciatively. At least Tonic has nice people that put you in a better mood, whereas across the street, loitering in front of 7-11, they are mean people that make me think negative and sometimes morbid thoughts.
  16. Kliman Rocks on with his review of Le Paradou today... "A la Recherche du Temps Perdu" And if you get your hands on a hardcopy, take a moment to admire Max Kornell's illustration. Is that John Waters and Jay Leno? Today you get to talk, people. I'm busy eating cashews and packing my bags. Onward!
  17. Here's "Greetings From Rehoboth"again since the link expires tomorrow (can't paste full text)... "Like Blue Moon, the Back Porch Cafe has a relaxed, unforced quality that surely has something to do with having been around for a while. Among the handful of sit-down, full-service restaurants that are open for lunch—I also like the always reliable Dogfish Head, for its craft-brewed beers and smartly conceived sandwiches, and Jake’s Seafood, for its fried clams and oysters—the Back Porch is the one that lends itself best to whiling away the afternoon. " ... "If I hadn’t tried the soft-shell po’ boy at the Seafood Shack, I might not register a peep of complaint at Nage’s. That po’ boy at the Shack, however, is not only the single best soft-shell sandwich I’ve eaten, it may also be the single best thing I’ve put in my mouth in years of going to Rehoboth. The soft-shells, brought in fresh from Crisfield, Md., are unusually plump and sweet, their meat firm and white like lump crab. The Shack doesn’t fry them but instead sautées them in butter and a few pinches of Old Bay. Although it could easily get away with serving up a single crab for the price, $10.95, it squeezes two of the suckers side by side onto a crusty French roll, the bright orange claws dangling from the bread like arms hanging out the windows of a pickup on a hot summer day. " Here's "Buns and Fishes", a column about Washington's fish house eatin' tradition... And finally, a piece on The Slow Food Film Festival, which I reluctantly missed, but even so, it's a truly interesting read...and funny too. Slow Food is doing something great everywhere. See: http://www.slowfood.com/ I've fallen behind with my cheerleading this week. I started "trying" at work again to celebrate the fall of Riggs Bank.
  18. Honestly, look at them pushing those books on the website... Kinda gross.
  19. Yeah, snakehead fish might be more interesting...
  20. You can prolly submit questions online too. If they're good questions, you'll beat all the fools on the phone; they often print out e-mail and read aloud on these shows...
  21. Palena, Jaleo and Paolo's had a threesome...and POP ...out come Paleo!
  22. How did this dream come about? Those eggs, I did not imagine... Thanks for still using the word FUCK and for having the humanity to take the leftovers home. Actually, I enjoyed this read. If you don't get it, you don't get it. "Fuck all those fussy steak joints in the District. Get yo ass to VA and have some real meat. You will be glad you did. " God damn eht (cartman voice)!
  23. :-/ Why did they forget the 'S' on her tank top? No one has ever purposefully linked this cookie, I am certian of that.
  24. On your overrated list of restaurants, you include Cashion's and Equinox. For the last three years, Todd Gray, Ann Cashion and Peter Pastan have been among those nominated (Best Chef Mid-Atlantic) for James Beard awards. That said, can we talk about Obelisk for a minute? I wouldn't call it overrated, I wouldn't call it underrated (but I'm not the one making calls)... Look for any sort of recent discussion about that place, within this forum or anywhere. I used to always hear wonderful things, but now I hear so little. What do you know about Obelisk now?
