A tale of two breakfasts. I had cheerios with oat milk and blueberries. Boring! My husband's brunch was more photo worthy.

Udon noodle soup in a chicken broth with ginger, garlic, chives, lime, and lemongrass that I made from the chicken carcass from Sunday's dinner, with shiitake mushrooms, carrots, spinach, chives, chiles, more garlic and ginger, cilantro etc. and the leftover roasted chicken. It would have been good with an egg on top but we are having eggs in tonight's dinner so I left it off.

Rigatoni with stewed eggplant-tomato sauce. The sauce also had chopped olives and roasted peppers, plus onion and garlic of course. Homemade pecorino-mixed herb breadstick on the side.

I do sometimes, depending on what kind of banh mi I make. I did not put any on this one, because the caramel sauce on the fish had quite a bit of soy sauce in it, so it was plenty salty on its own. I do tend to put it on my chicken banh mis. Last night, brown butter harissa salmon with salad and orzo tossed with asparagus, parmesan and crispy breadcrumbs. The salmon flavor was very good but I disliked the recipe's suggestion to serve it in big chunks. It looked messy. If I make it again I will just cut the salmon into traditional serving pieces.

I would be annoyed if I was given a menu without prices, unless it was a prix fixe dinner. That said, I have not seen a menu without prices in a long time. I do remember being given one at a restaurant in Montreal, but that was about 20 years ago. I made my husband let me look at his menu so I could see how much everything cost before ordering. I was not paying, but it was the principle of the thing. I was glad he let me look because some of the dishes had ridiculous upcharges. (I specifically remember a $20 upcharge for hollandaise sauce on a fish dish).

This week's box was boring again, but here it is for the record. Green garlic, apples (lots), ancient grains bread (my favorite), dried beans, spinach, coffee (I don't drink caffeine anymore so I will end up giving this away), onions, a ton of potatoes, chives, and sorrel. The email from the farm said we were getting carrots this week too, but there were not any in my box. It's warming up and things are sprouting so I am expecting more variety soon.

Chia-coconut milk pudding and blueberry smoothie with raspberries, blueberries, granola, and a little almond butter on top.

Two recipes from the latest Milk Street magazine: Indian carrot stir fry and Kerala-style chicken curry. Everyone really liked both. The carrot dish was especially bright. The naan (New York Times recipe by Steven Raichlen) was, as expected, a little disappointing. Although it was faster and simpler than my usual recipe, I wish I had stuck with the one I normally make. This naan was a little too dry and bready for my taste. The leftovers might make OK personal pizza crusts.

Wow, that naan looks amazing. I am trying a new naan recipe tonight, and I bet it is not going to come out as tasty as that! Last night, quinoa bowls topped with marinated salmon, cabbage, carrots, peanuts, mint, cilantro, sprouts, scallions, and chiles in a ginger dressing

Haddock baked in parchment with lemongrass, ginger, scallions, mushrooms, bell peppers, lime juice, sriracha, and cilantro. Wild and brown rice blend.

Soy sauce, sriracha, brown sugar, and garlic. Last night, grilled chicken caesar salad with more garlicky bread

It is a Meera Sodha recipe. Basically, rice cooked with chopped dried fruit (I used apricots and dates), chopped nuts (I used pistachios), butter and spices. It appears n her cookbook Fresh India. I also found a copy of it on this blog, if you want to look at the recipe: https://thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/maharajahs-rice Pizza last night

It's been a couple of weeks since I have uploaded a CSA box, but nothing has really changed. This is the boring time of year for food on this part of the planet. Sweet potatoes, yellow potatoes, onions, spinach, a ciabatta loaf, Jerusalem artichokes, popcorn, apples, carrots, and flour. You can't really see it because the potatoes are covering it up, but there were two shoots of green garlic in this week's box too.
