My husband walked behind me while I was scrolling through your meals, saw this picture, and exclaimed "Wow! What restaurant is that??" When I said it was someone's dinner from my food group, he was very disappointed that he could not go there and order your meal 😆 Last night, udon noodles with spinach and lots of mushrooms.

I always get cookbooks for Christmas. Sometimes good, sometimes not. I always smile and say thank you, no mater what. But... My brother gave me some puzzling ones this year. As seen here: I sort of get his reasoning. We eat a lot of bowl food and noodles, but the ramen book is so bizarre. Recipes routinely call for one full cup of wasabi, or a full cup of sriracha, among other problems. I do not think anyone edited this book. He definitely did not look inside before buying it haha. The second book...I guess he was thinking about the fact that we occasionally went to Disney pre-Covid. But every recipe in the book is for some kind of theme park snack. There is no actual savory food. It's all junky sugary stuff that no one in my house eats, even when we are actually at Disney! I'll be donating both to the library book sale. Someone with a sweet tooth might actually like the Disney one. I did get something nice from him though: he gave my husband two t-shirts that were the 'exact' t-shirts that my sister gave my husband last year. (Covid meant that we did not gather for Christmas last year, so he had no way of knowing) They are super soft and comfortable, so after we got home I snagged them for me to use as pajamas. 😀

Thank you! It was very tasty. I can count the things my husband does not like to eat on one hand, and one of them is peanut sauce. So our husbands have that in common! Last night, another niece requested meal: the roasted sweet potato risotto with crispy kale and bacon that I had to put off earlier in the week because she was feeling ill from her Covid booster. It was worth waiting to make it later because she really enjoyed it.

The holiday food gifts are starting to arrive. I was not expecting either of these so thought I would post them here. A tin of candies from my sisters colleague. I think she bakes for every human she knows exists 😀 There are buckeyes, peppermint bark, fudge and some kind of toffee and chocolate covered cracker in here. I'm definitely going to sample a piece of the peppermint bark when I get a candy craving. My niece will probably eat the rest haha A box of treats from a bakery that recently opened in town, a gift from the guy who comes in to clean my house. Definitely unexpected, and very nice of him. I ate an arm off the gingerbread man yesterday and it was very tasty. My niece ate the blueberry scone this morning and said that it was tender and not too sweet. I'll have to stop by this place after the holidays and see what else they make. I also got a gift box in today's mail containing four pounds (!!!!) of mixed nuts, 2 pounds of chocolate covered fruit, and 2 pounds of dried fruit. That will definitely get redistributed among various family households, as we could never eat it all before it goes bad.

Seared "everything but the bagel" spice coated tuna with soy dipping sauce, rice, roasted radishes and cucumbers in ginger dressing.

Sorry, I forgot to answer this, Yes, it actually was Boursin cheese! 🙂 Dinner last night was supposed to be squash risotto, but my niece got her covid booster Saturday. She was feeling really lousy yesterday and wanted to skip dinner. She really likes squash risotto so I punted that meal to later this week, dug around in the freezer and found some sauce and meatballs for us to have instead. Cheesy garlic bread also from the freezer.

Chicken pounded flat, stuffed with herbed cheese, rolled in crumbs browned stovetop and then baked, on a puree of 50-50 potatoes and celery root, with some crispy kale for crunch. Usually when I make this kind of chicken this I lose most of the stuffed cheese in the cooking process, but this time I stuffed it first thing in the morning and chilled it all day, and it almost all stayed inside.

Tuesday night ramen with carrot ribbons, soy sauce egg, fava shoots, lightly pickled watermelon radishes (2 radishes down, about 150 left to go), and fish cake to use up the redfish delivery from my fish share.

Just garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper. Easy!

I have seven bags of pureed sweet potatoes in my deep freezer from last late winter/early spring's CSA delivery. I am trying not to add any more until we eat those. Luckily my niece comes home for an extended holiday break starting next Thursday and sweet potatoes are one of her favorites so hopefully by the time she goes back to school I'll have things under control. The radishes however...we got more delivered yesterday! The bay scallops from Nantucket are in their brief season, so yesterday we splurged and got some to have on spaghetti with a lemon garlic butter sauce. I doubt we will have them again--they (and lobsters!) are even more expensive than usual this year. Luckily a little goes a long way.

Last night I made a recipe that came with my CSA newsletter for a sweet potato dolma with spinach and mushrooms. I was a bit skeptical because the recipe read kind of weird. When I finally thought to look and see if I could find it somewhere online (after I made and ate dinner! I should have looked earlier), I found the version written by the chef who is married to the farmer who runs our CSA and realized that they had altered the recipe to try and include as many items that came in last week's box as possible. I am glad I followed my instinct and left out, for example, the cabbage and kale (among other things) that the CSA version of the recipe called for. We liked it, and it did use up a lot of things from the CSA box (we are somewhat overrun with sweet potatoes from them right now).

Ramen bowl with some of the mushrooms, pea shoots and cabbage from this week's CSA box, and a little bit of swordfish from our fish share. We have been eating a lot of soups and noodle bowls lately so I bought some new oven proof bowls to keep things nice and hot while we are enjoying dinner but not so hot that the ingredients overcook.

Maple glazed chicken cooked in a pan with sweet potatoes and some of the endless radishes that are filling up my crisper drawer. I tossed some arugula in at the end. The vegetables soaked up all the chicken fat and were the best part of the dish.

Creamy polenta topped with roasted mushrooms and garlicky kale, plus a poached egg and a green olive pesto. Another dinner based on a Half Baked Harvest recipe, though I roasted my mushrooms for extra flavor.

Haddock puttanesca Dinner tonight will involve some of this box. We added a mushroom share to our normal Friday CSA delivery. Good thing we all like mushrooms!
