  1. Friday got a bit messed up because we way overslept and did not wake up until noon. This is why we flew in early! We got outside and went for a long walk, which helped to get us back on schedule, I think. Some scenic views We popped back into the Christmas market for a cheesy pretzel to share. I think it was only around 3 pm but already getting dark. This sign on one of the festival rides cracked me up. Of course everyone was screaming on the ride. It went upside down. Then we had pre-dinner drinks at the hotel bar (which was always completely jammed for some reason). Husband had Sancerre, and I had a mocktail made from jasmine tea syrup and na sparkling wine We went around the corner to Chez Flottes for a late dinner. Here’s the menu husband wanted foie gras to start I ordered the goat cheese and spinach toast. It was much larger than I was expecting or wanting it to be. I only ate a little and the waiter thought I disliked it. It was actually quite good but I only wanted a bit of it. Husband had the coquilles St Jacques for his main course. I had the sole meuniere, which they offered to filet table side. I am actually pretty good at doing this myself, but let them have at it. We shared a coffee ice cream with coffee syrup and chantilly cream for dessert
  2. Staff note: THE CHANGE IN TITLE WAS DISCUSSED WITH THE AUTHOR OF THE OP. I am in Paris for a little pre-holiday visit. The main purpose of the trip is to visit the museums and Christmas markets. We didn’t make any dining reservations before coming over. We are coming back in April and will plan more tightly for that visit, this one is more improvised. We arrived Thursday on the overnight Jet Blue from Boston, and spent a few nights at the Soiftel Faubourg before moving to an apartment for a week starting on Saturday. Here’s the plane menu from Mint class. I did not eat or drink anything because we took off during a bomb cyclone and it was a tad bumpy. Plus, I slept most of the way. Complimentary macarons and a bottle of red wine were in the room on arrival. I don’t drink alcohol, but my husband enjoyed part of it. After crashing for a few (ok, four) hours, we went out to the Christmas market in the Tuileries. We were going out to dinner later, so just walked through to see some of what was on offer. We did not get through the whole thing, but will be back. many dried sausages more sausages and potatoes I loved this rotating windmill with the Three Wise Men inside chocolate “Potato tornado” Many kinds of cheese. They said they could vacuum wrap anything to bring home, but I am not going to risk smuggling anything back. We did buy some to eat while here once we moved to the apartment. We had dinner at L’Ardoise near the hotel. It’s a three course prix fixe at forty euros. We ate here about ten years ago and not much has changed. Menu I had the goat cheese salad to start husband had chestnut soup I had the cod dish and husband had duck We chose the apple fianancier and Paris Brest for desserts. Unfortunately we had to leave most of these behind after finishing the prior two courses. Holiday lights on the way back to the hotel

    Dinner 2024

Spinach, tomato and paneer curry with maharajah rice and naan
  4. It's all the ingredients in the original recipe, with the addition of 1/8 tsp. cayenne and 2-3 tsp. Old Bay seasoning. Doesn't sound very spicy to me, but then again this is a New England cookbook! 😂

    Dinner 2024

    Mezze rigatoni with turkey meatball
  6. Sorry it took me so long to get back with these recipes. It has been a bit crazy here. It has been at least 10 years since I have made this casserole, but my note to precook fish referred to the haddock. I used to leave it in bigger chunks and poach it briefly before tossing it with everything else.

    Dinner 2024

Spaghetti with scallops, herbs, and burst cherry tomatoes
  10. I have both the old and the new Legal cookbooks, and the recipe for the casserole is in it. Do you want it? Legal used to be such a reliable place for good seafood, simply prepared. I probably have not eaten there in a decade. It's terrible now.

    Dinner 2024

Orecchiette with a creamy tomato sauce, a little bit of spicy chicken sausage, and basil.
  12. What about something with the bay scallops that are in season this time of year? They are pricy but you do not need a lot. One year I did a scallop served in a scallop shell with a mornay style sauce on it. It looked very pretty. Or, this might be too messy, but you could look at Mario Batali's recipe for calamari "Sicilian lifeguard style." It's really easy to make, you can do the sauce in advance, and it's delicious. You could serve it in a shooter cup. You could also swap in shrimp or scallops for the squid if you wanted.

Neither my niece or I enjoy turkey, so on Friday while everyone else was enjoying the Thanksgiving leftovers, we had salmon lettuce cups with rice and cucumber salad Last night my nephew cooked for us. He made a butter chicken with maharajah rice and paratha

Meals for the week. Black bean soup Nephew cooked one night. He made Japanese chicken katzu curry. It was pretty good! One day was my husband's birthday. I made him lobster spaghetti Sister and I had crab spaghetti. Before starting to cook these dinners, I made my nephew a baked tortellini with sausage dish since he's allergic to crustaceans, but no pictures of that. Chicken parmesan with pasta Steak, mashed potatoes, spinach, and roasted delicata squash for my husband last night. Sister and I don't eat red meat so we just had the veggies. Nephew was out to dinner with friends.

Some recent dinners. Friday we had local bay scallops over angel hair in a lemon sauce with toasted panko Saturday was fish and chips, made with hake. Monday I wanted a big plate of veggies, so we had a NY Times recipe for roasted root vegetables in a creamy coconut sauce with brown rice. I used two kinds of carrots, harukei turnips, watermelon radishes, fennel, and red onions for the vegetables. Topped with some cashews for crunch.

    Dinner 2024

This is exactly what I am hoping to have for dinner tonight! It will depend on what the fishmonger brings on his truck today. A couple of recent dinners. I have been cleaning out my Dad's house after his passing, which has led to me frantically cleaning out my own house as well. I really hate clutter and mess in general. While going through my pantry, I found a bag of anellini pasta that I did not remember buying. I decided to make a grown up version of spaghettios, with a spicy red sauce and finely minced kale. My nephew had never had spaghettios before and was very unimpressed. He described it as an unsatisfying cross between a stew and a soup, with a pasta shape that is not fun to eat. OK then, guess I won't make this again 🤣 The next night, we had wonton soup with spiralized carrots and radishes, blue oyster mushrooms, chopped napa cabbage, and (store bought) chicken-ginger wontons And last night, I made soup again, this time loaded mashed potato flavor to use up some leftover mashed potatoes in the fridge.

Two recent dinners: crab cake with horseradish remoulade and a fennel-apple salad with rice pilaf (nephew had a steak, not pictured) Homemade "takeout Chinese food" to make it allergy friendly for my nephew: mushroom and egg fried rice, no-crab rangoons, and fried chicken bits
  21. I've been cleaning out my Dad's house after his passing. Today I found this old Aer Lingus menu from a flight he probably took in the early to mid 80s. He used to travel to Ireland for business back when he worked for Digital Equipment Corporation (there's a company name from the past!). I'm not sure why he saved it, as the food sounds kind of boring, but old menus interest me.

    Dinner 2024

Not homemade. They were Laoban ginger chicken flavor. They had a nice gingery flavor, but were a little too salty for me. Weekend dinners: Friday we had spaghetti with spicy turkey meatballs Saturday we had apple sausages with sauerkraut, potato pancakes and applesauce And Sunday we had spinach and ricotta stuffed shells with a lemony arugula salad
