Nothing quite brings out family love and harmony like a whopping kitchen remodelling! and I rather suspect that the dinner at Crooks probably qualified as an appropriate Valentines gift to Mrs. Varmint from your rapturous descriptions ...
-
So, you lost your "oysginity" at Crooks, debbiemoose? Must be a helluva place!
-
I think that, in keeping with your traditional, heimishe theme, possibly a pretty platter of some different types of rugelach might work with a fresh fruit accompaniment .. or possibly an apple cake ... many, many different rugelach recipes

Kol Hakavod on this glorious honor, Rogov! You do know your subject thoroughly and your depth of knowledge enriches your website daily for those of us who enjoy reading it!

When I read "Sacred ground for Southern foodies" in the New York Times, and your marvelously detailed descriptions of the food, Varmint, I knew that I absolutely had to try the place in person! Thanks for offering up this review!

And even a good shot of Cialis won't help!

article When one lives in Atlanta, there exists a quandry in the making: This city boasts of the CDC and Emory University with its spectacular cardiology reputation .. but then there is yet another "face" to Atlanta ... specifically the "Hamdog" ... actually saw this on CNN .. Oh, yes, what is the "Hamdog" exactly? Just a brief bit of background on southern cooking and how it evolved .. or didn't yet ... What evil lurks in your city of the food variety? Unhealthy, yet appealing, local foods which stand out, beckoning the innocent? Heart attack on a plate local grub? Love to hear from you .. not just the SE members ...

more details on Yonah Schimmel's knishesThe reason for not microwaving is pretty much as with other items which need to be warmed: you will love the texture of the original when freshly baked... when microwaved, they get too soft ... As to when? If/when you are in NYC, call them and ask what you have asked here. I assume that they bake for much of the morning and will give you more specific details. In any event, warming in a regular oven is preferable. Enjoy yourself as you bite into them and remember that a knish is a little bit of heaven wrapped in dough!

The difference between avant garde cuisine and art

Goes with my empty wallet ... but, isn't that so incredibly esoteric that someone will just have to give it a try, chefzadi? -

If it were me, the better term might be 'consternation' .... empty dishes don't say avant-garde to me ... they say 'cheap' ... my 5,000th post and it is about empty plates on a food website ... go figure!! -
Welcome to the Southeast Forum, Tom! We have a number of Raleighites now who have brought us some interesting news of the food in that city! Post often and you will find some very solid food friends in the area!

My big, fat, elaborate, lavish wedding feast ...
Gifted Gourmet replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
Which then stimulates the next question on wedding meals: When you planned your wedding meal, how much of a factor was your concern about the appropriateness of the choices for your guests? I had a friend who insisted on serving oriental vegan and her mother had a fit saying that the guests would have little to eat after coming the long distance for the wedding. She was, it turns out, quite correct. -

I, for one, am in complete agreement with you on these statements, Pan. What passes for avant-garde in many areas (fashion being prime among them), is nothing more or less than sheer narcissism by the 'creator' .. be it food or art or music or film. I do thank you for saying this! And, while innovative is fine when accompanied by solid grounding, as you state, much of it wanders around looking for a sustained, appreciative audience. -
That it is! It is still a long time Atlanta favorite! Fat Matt's serves up some of the city's best barbecue in the city ... and for blues fans, Fat Matt's is also a great place to hear live music (it was also a finalist for best blues club) Thanks for asking, wrek92!

A Shabbat Shalom to you Aidan and good health, refuah shlaimah, as well ... Tonight we are having rock cornish hen with a ginger-soy sauce-garlic-honey-orange marinade ... haven't made it yet but the smell thus far is terrific!

Same as you, Rich... six is about right and eight is fine too, if they are compatible ... anything over 8 and I lose my focus ...
