Perhaps this is a stupid question, but I was wondering if it is safe to use fully developed petals from a rose flower as a garnish in a drink?

Maybe I should just stick to those tiny rose buds you can buy to make tea...

The primary caveat here is about whatever pesticides may have been sprayed on the roses ... it is my understanding that if they are loose, they can be gently washed and used .. many recipes call for using rose petals as a garnish, etc ... no bleach though!

I think roses are also sometimes dyed. You want to make sure before you buy the roses. And make sure you buy them from someone you can trust to tell you the truth.

You can buy edible tea roses for drink garnishes. They're used at Amada to garnish a Hendrick's, cucumber and rosewater drink. Find an edible flower vendor in your area and ask if they can get you small roses.

I will say that I never saw anyone actually eat one.
