gave up and never left the house till dinner with friends...we definately have to predo our ride for for the motorcycle club soon though to see if we can work your place into the airshow trip. We just dont know the area all that well ...our plan is to back road from rt 23 Wayne NJ through Ringwood to 17 then through Harriman State Park to rt 9N ....the airshows are at 2 so if we could hit Newburgh then a straight run to Rhinebeck........I dunno .....but we will let you know

Whew

we made it up here today ...the "back roads" directions I had found werent great but....

damn that is good food.

Four of us piled into the car to pile into the Q, I made sure someone got the sampler aka The PIG OUT. At that suggestion Jose suddenly went from BBQ Pork sandwich straight to Pig Out while Patty had the Texas Kettle Beef Sandwich, Karl went for the Pulled Pork and I of course had to round it out with a half rack of Ribs. Wings and a bowl of chili were the starters, Awsome wings with a touch of smoke a sweet sauce and I was told a great blue cheese dip, nice meaty chili with a good sting to it (no beans).

Jose almost needed his own table for the Pig Out and the paper towel roll on the table started getting unwound pretty fast. There were forks flying across that table fast and furious with keilbasa and ribs going to the less fortunate among us. I got a little tiny bit of Karls pulled pork...perfect, the chopped beef was very rich....Patty made it disappear pretty fast, and the keilbasa was great not at all greasy as commercial versions, really smokey and well spiced, cole slaw was nice and fresh and the baked means really good not too mushy....but the corn bread oh my god...since the butter was a little cold i just dove in plain....plain is not the right word here moist sweet and oh so yummy, given just that cornbread I could have been happy.....

After we rolled out of our chairs we were given the tour of the kitchen and huge walk-in stacked with boxes of pig parts ready to be transformed into BBQ. The smoker had just been fired up so there there was no peeking but I did see a whisp of smoke escaping...

Well since our ride to Rhinebeck Aerodrome will need more mapping trips...we will be back soon and cant wait to show off this find to our big bad biker club

Rockland Journal News

And Westchester and Putnam.

Sorry Liz, when I last lived in Rockland back in '93 it was still just the Rockland paper. Thanks a bunch for the mention!

....and again

Sunday we dragged a motley crew of bikers on a "3 hour tour" with 14 of us washing up at Geoffs door. As we pull in its a total Oh No....half the building is gone, Barnstormers sign is gone, now What?......look a little closer the little glowing pig in the window is like a beacon of BBQ in the chaos. They are building a new Target on site so business should soon be booming. After seriously talking up this food since March we have our fingers crossed...the place is packed 40 people for a graduation party have 2/3 of the room when we get settled in 4 booths that leaves just one table open. Fortunatley most of the party has been served so we dont wait around too long for food. Geoff runs out to greet us and back to the fire.

OUr table of 4 started with a pound of killer garlicky saucy peel and eat shrimp and the nice hot smokey wings, both killer and moved on to 4 plates of ribs from the delicate 1/4 rack to the 3/4 and a 1/2 rack 1/2 a chicken plate. The sauce on the side folks were very surprised that the sauce wasnt all thick and gloppy (they dont like gloppy) Our buddy Jose who has lost almost 30 pounds since his last visit saved up all his calories for a week and got the pig out... I think all that was left was the corn bread, those pesky carbs ya know. Our good taste is now assured to our friends they all loved it. I think Barnstomer has 10 new customers.

the only pictures I have are of the After and thats pretty scarey

Thanks once again! Glad everybody enjoyed it. The only thing was that I saw Jose's Pigout plate back in the dish area and saw that he completely missed all of his Brisket. It was hidden under the ribs. Maybe he didn't see it?

Geoff, will your shop be open over Labor Day weekend? I'll be in Plattekill for the holiday and I want to make sure my family stops in at least once to check Barnstormer out!

We are closing and heading up to Dansville for the NY State Baloon Festival.  Kind of a tradition at the Barnstormer.

Bummer for me. It'll have to wait for next time. Thanks.

Our group of 10 was plagued by last min excuses for today's big lunch...I mean really..." 'I am in the middle of reopening a restaurant'...'my 94 yr old grandma needs a ride somewhere' and, and 'It's Raining'".

So Dana, Karl and I braved the clouds and headed north from Jersey to see Geoff. Who took some time from his new restaurant Pineapples Steakhouse, near West Point, to greet us.

As usual the faintest wiff of smoke hits you when you walk in the door and you view the memorabilia on the walls and head for a table. Iced tea (with generous refills) Sam Adams and Boylans cherry soda to read the menu over, with an app portion of ribs soon on their way. Karl had to do it...he ordered

The PIG OUT

1/4 chicken

1/4 rack of ribs

BBQ Braised beef

pulled pork

sausage

chili

and 3 pieces of corn bread

He ate the whole thing except for the bites of sausage and beef that we snagged away.

I went for the 1/2 rack with skin on french fries and cole slaw ( I love their slaw it has a great white pepper accent).

Danas choice of pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries was a thing of beauty, and those fries are damn good.

After a recent passable BBQ meal I felt urge for what I believe to be the best local Q and it did not fail.

Go North eaters....or South if need be just GO

tracey

oh yeah on the way home Karl mumbled something about Geoff being evil

Okay here's the porn. Man what a tedious way to post pictures. Anyway, everything tracey said, ditto. The sweet smoky smell , the funky decor, the friendly people and the awesome Q.

Worth the trip.

Dana

edit: the captions didn't come out, but I guess you can figure them out. The photo of Karl's Pigout had a techno glitch, so all you will see are the remains. That was one huge plate of food!

Today we were on a mission to turn a 40 mile trip into a 4 hour tour. We headed North then West and North West until we were somewhere above Newburgh and then South-East till we got to Barnstormer. So now we have all our directions set for a motorcycle day trip in July.

We arrived in time to get on line outside the door at 12:58 (they open at 1pm)....in a pigpen somewhere is a Wanted poster with my picture on it

We ordered the awsome marinated shrimp (spicy as hell) and a couple of sandwiches pulled pork w/sauce and the pulled pork NC style with vinager slaw and dove right in. We also took home some cornbread and chile for lunch tomorrow...BBQ meal #1 for today...dinner in Jersey

Looking at the pix ... do you really have Sun Drop? I did at least two bottles a day in high school back in Chattanooga. My mother did her best to shame me off it -- "It tastes just like citrate of magnesia -- how can you stand something that awful" -- but it suited me jes' fine.
