Going there tonight. Was curious about the breweries. We have some decent ones in San Francisco area.

I read something about the Red Hook Brewery being pretty good. Do they still do $1 beers? That would make it a must see.

I love cold Dinty Moore beef stew. It is like dog food! And I am like a dog.

Unfortunately, Red Hook's in-town location closed about a year ago. Their remaining pub is in Woodinville, about 30 minutes northeast of Seattle. Some other options:

Pyramid Ale House - Some people dislike these beers, but I think many of them are excellent (particularly the Draft Pale Ale) and the food is generally good.

Pike Brewing - I dislike the space and have never eaten there, but the beer is very good.

The Elysian - Located just east of downtown on Capital Hill, tasty and interesting beers, crappy service and hit and miss food.

In your opinion, would it be worth it to drive to Red Hook?

We have a Pyramid Alehouse in Berkeley and I agree it's excellent.

I really like Redhook, although I don't know if it's worth a drive across the bridge to Woodinville during rush hour (going across 520 can be MURDER between 3-7). If you can travel after 7 p.m. or before 3 p.m., then it wouldn't be a bad idea to go to Redhook. Their food is good, but typical for brewpub food (fish and chips, burgers, etc)

Where are you staying? In Seattle?

Personally, I think Tighe's suggestions are all top notch. I might add Maritime Pacific. I love their beer. The food is decent enough. The beer rocks.

We're staying at the La Quinta Inn at Seatac for a couple of nights before heading into Vancouver. Free waffle breakfast, free local calls, fairly decent rooms for $30 a night on Priceline.

The Elysian's at Pike St will be right on our way to Matt's in the Market and Gelatiamo

It looks like Maritime Pacific is on the way to Vancouver so we'll probably hit it.

Here's a thought if you're in a bind on travel time, there is a brew pub very close to where you're staying in SeaTac, only about a 10 minute drive.

Pacific Crest Brewing has an outside deck that is good (but fills up early) and they serve barbecue from Hole in the Wall barbecue (very sauce heavy Q, decent smoke flavor, sides are pretty good, but the salads are the prefab kind). The beer is yummy. This is a pretty understated place.. not as big or corporate as Pyramid and fewer beers, but still good beer.

This is probably coming too late, but....

Pike Brewing would be much closer to Matt's than The Elysian, which is probably a couple miles east of the Market. If you're driving, it won't be a big issue.

damn, too bad I didn't see this till now. The one brewery that I think is a must-go-drink-there is Diamond Knot in Mukilteo. On the way to Vancouver. :raz: Oh, and Maritime Pacific has a tasting room in Ballard. And there's Hales, also over in Ballard.

I cannot recommend Pike Brewing enough. They have lambic on tap, what more do you need? Their smoked salmon pizza is amazing, too.

The Redmond Alehouse is pretty decent, and Pyramid is especially good after a game at Safeco.

the U.S.S. Mariner has a guide to beer and food in and around Safeco Field. Mostly beer though.

Due to major time miscalculations, we did not end up getting any beeyah this trip. This was a major reason for going to Seattle so that sucked.

Luckily, we decided we love Seattle and Vancouver so we will definitely go back and try out all the places we missed this time.

Girlchow was right about the traffic. Damn, Seattle could use a subway system. I was astounded that traffic is worse than in L.A. On the other hand, you have way better scenery to look at while you wait.
