Cuba Libre

Recommended Posts

While in Germany, on Memorial Day Weekend, we went to a nearby town of Darmstadt.

They were having some type of festival in the city center.

There was a stage, with Cuban music & dancers. Havana Nights, iIrc, was the name of the group.

There was also a bar, serving Cuban drinks, with Havana Club 3.

So, I ordered a Cuba Libre for 5 Euro + a 2 Euro deposit for the LARGE glass.

I watched them make it; they crushed one Lime, and put it, along with the juice, in the bottom of the glass.

Next, they added a generous portion of Havana Club 3, Ice, and Cola. Garnishments of a straw, lime slice, & fancy stirrer were added. :yum: :raz:

I've since tried it at home. :yum:

I'm glad to hear there is a social life in Darmstadt. I was there a few times in the mid-nineties and saw nothing except factory and hotel room interiors.

But I'm confused by the drink recipe. When I tended bar back in the day, this was the accepted way to make a Cuba Libre (though the rum wasn't usually as nice). What am I missing?
