I love sour patch kids. I eat virtually no other candy except for chocolate and caramel (I don't eat any of it very often). My only problem with SPKs is that if you eat enough, they will sometimes burn your tongue and ruin your taste for a few hours. I am assuming that this is due to a common acid used in the coating.

Is it just citric acid (or some other food acid) that is in a really strong concentration? Could eating too many cause more permanent issues with taste?
