Lancaster & Bethlehem

We will be traveling on a college tour and although I have read past recommendations for this area of PA, most are dated. Any suggestions based on experience within the year? Cost is not an issue nor is ambience, just interested in good food, of any cuisine. Thanks

While not a first-hand recommendation because I haven't eaten there since it changed ownership a few tears ago, a friend whose judgment in these things is pretty sound likes Josephine's in Marietta(a short distance NW of Lancaster)and has gone out of his way to go there on a few occasions recently. It used to be French, but I think the new owner has gotten away from that. I imagine the menu is online.

Couple of places to consider, especially if you enjoy beer. Bethlehem brew works in downtown Bethlehem has a couple of nice venues to eat in. Their pub is nice, as is their downstairs area the Steelgarden that is dedicated to belgian beers. Note they also have a branch in Allentown but I have not been there.

In addition, I can recommend the Farmhouse in Emmaus, which is West of Bethlehem Easton area. Great beers selection, both bottles and draught and very nice food in a nice atmosphere. Six room old farmhouse, and an english style pub.

Depending how far you want to drive, there are lots of nice inns south of Bethlehem Easton on the Delaware River...

The places i mentioned in this thread are all still good

Lancaster places

If you are going to F&M on the college circuit Gibraltar is just across the street. The Iron Hill BrewPub has just opened across the street as well. Liked the beer, not crazy about the food, but they are brand new. A new place, Fenz, is just down the street as is John Jeffries. We are going there for Maggie's birthday on Tuesday.

One place to avoid near F&M is the Rosa-Rosa Italian place. The pizza place is ok,but the restaurant is not. Two different places with the same name.

Also just down the street is the Campus Deli, which has Lancaster's best sandwiches.

If you have any specific questions about anyplace let me know and I will be happy to answer.

LancasteMike, We will be touring F & M, and we will be staying at the Lancaster Arts one night, so your advice here and on the Lancaster link (if still applicable) is all very useful. Between Carr's and Jeffries, for our one dinner in Lancaster, which would you recommend?

I recall having a wonderful meal at the Belvedere Inn several years ago, which was among lancastermike's recommendations. We reserved a seat upstairs, where a live but unobtrusive band was playing some quiet smooth jazz. I don't remember specifically what we ordered, but my wife and I both remember that the food was excellent.

If I had to choose one, I would pick Carr's
