  1. I will be traveling in Maine in the middle of October, near the Canadian border, St.-Georges and St. Theophile area of Quebec Province. Any suggestions for great food (ambience and cost are flexible) stops?
  2. I will be headed to Moosehead Lake just after Columbus Day and I am looking for suggestions within 1.5 hr radius. Blair Hill and Greenville Inns are closed that week. Lodge @ Moosehead Lake (where I will stay) is open for dining only on Fri & Sat. Willing to travel over the border into Canada, which I understand is within the timeframe (which is flexible). ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE MUCH APPRECIATED
  3. Ditto for me the following week.
  4. Thanks CWDonald and LancasterMike. LancasteMike, We will be touring F & M, and we will be staying at the Lancaster Arts one night, so your advice here and on the Lancaster link (if still applicable) is all very useful. Between Carr's and Jeffries, for our one dinner in Lancaster, which would you recommend?
  5. We will be traveling on a college tour and although I have read past recommendations for this area of PA, most are dated. Any suggestions based on experience within the year? Cost is not an issue nor is ambience, just interested in good food, of any cuisine. Thanks
  6. Thanks all. Persimmon and DeWolf were already on my list of "possibles" from reading other blogs/sites, so now I will underscore them thanks t o your input. I heard about Aunt Carrie's previously but, unfortunately, it appears from its website that it is not open during our stay. I look forward to additional suggestions.
  7. My wife and I will be staying at the Point Pleasant Inn for a few days in the early fall and would appreciate recommendations for area dining. We will be dining out for both light lunches and dinners. We are very flexible on cost and ambience; we are inflexible on the quality of the food: it must be good or better. If we have a minor preference for a particular cuisine it would be for "regional" food; i.e. food/dishes which are tradiitonal to the area and at which the area restaurants excel. We do "fine" dining in NYC through our work all year, so we are not focused on that type of restaurant. Having stated our preference, if there is a place worth making an exception, we will. We are willing to travel up to an hour from the Inn, but not into Providence. Our preference is for restaurants in the surrounding towns. Thanks in advance to all who make suggestions.
  8. Thanks Yasmine. Hunters Head was on my list and I will now underscore it. I am adding Market which, from its website, does look like a great lunch place.
  9. BrodeurR, thanks for the reply. We ate (and stayed) at the Inn at Little Washington about 2 years ago (our last visit to the area) and we were very impressed. So impressed that we have a request for a reservation pending for the upcoming trip but it does not book more than 30 days in advance. So, we are waiting to confirm. Definitely eat there if you are in the area. As for 4&20, I have wanted to try it for a while but unfortunately its hours of operation do not coincide with our schedule.
  10. My wife and I will be staying at the Goodstone Inn for a few days and would appreciate recommendations for area dining. We will be dining out for both light lunches and dinners. We are very flexible on cost, ambience and cuisine; we are inflexible on the quality of the food: it must be good or better. We are willing to travel up to an hour from the Inn, but not into DC or its immediate suburbs. Our preference is for restaurants in the surrounding small towns. Has anyone had recent experience with dining at the Inn itself? Thanks in advance to all who make suggestions.

    Oaxaca Dining

How is the situation in Oaxaca these days, in light of the protests? I read that the hotels, markets, vendors and restaurants are taking a HUGE hit from lack of tourism. What did you see? How safe did it feel? We are scheduled to go there in December, so I'm hoping the situation improves, though last Friday's travel warning from the U.S. State Department looks ominous. ← My family and I are also scheduled to be in Oaxaca this December, Christmas week. Like Dimsumfan, I too would be interested in any knowlegeable insight into the situation there. Recent newspaper accounts make it appear as if the protests are increasing and broadening. Without commenting upon the underlying legitimacy of the protests, from the point of view of a possible visitor, the circumstances appear to be deteriorating rather than improving. Dimsumfan you may wish to make alternative plans, as we have already done so.
  12. We will be staying in Warren, VT (Pitcher Inn) for a long weekend. The Inn itself is supposed to have a good restaurant. Are there, however, any other restaurant suggestions (for dinners) within an hour radius? We are chiefly interested in restaurants that feature well prepared local produce .
  13. A restaurant called The Place is mentioned in the May 30th report . Several foodies have mentioned this stand to me before. Can anyone give me more detailed directions, or an approximate street address? I would like to try it on a trip I am planning to Mystic. Thanks.
  14. Thank you all for your suggestions. More recommendations will be appreciated. Snowangel, thanks again for the warning, any affirmative advice?
