I have been offered, as a gift from a vendor, a complimentary meal for myself and my wife in the restaurant of our choice in Philly. With so many wonderful choices, many of which are usually out of the question for a normal, Saturday night out, what would your top choice be?

Since this isn't limited by cost, why not Vetri itself?

As V.'s ringing endorsement indicates, Osteria is terrific and to my sensibilities is not simply Vetri Jr. (in fact it is a very different experience). While it is true that Vetri is more expensive than Osteria, one should not believe Vetri is superior to Osteria for that reason (or any reason, necessarily). While Vetri is an excellent choice if money is no object, so is Osteria. In reducing the choice of restaurants to their merits (since there will be no bill) all are equal in the running and again (as V. points out) Osteria is worth it outside of the context of its relationship to Vetri.

Deux Cheminees (under Fritz Blank) won't be an option for much longer. Might be worth going so you don't miss it if you've never been. It's really the most gorgeous building and decor I can think of in town. The food on my last visit (far too long ago, I confess) was excellent, and surpassed only by the seamless service. Definitely a "big boy" restaurant.

Not too many suggestions considering both the number of times this thread has been viewed and the number of wonderful restaurants that Philly has to offer. We decided on The Fountain for our complimentary meal. We haven't been there in many years and trust them for a great romantic evening.

Find out if Martin is cooking that night. If he is order the tasting menu, and ask him to do something special, maybe a little off the menu. You are in for a real treat. Hands down Martin is the best chef in the city.

No doubt! If you can get the opportunity for Martin to cook for you, then you are in for a treat, indeed!
