Continental? That's a blast from the past. Don't think so. Well, from the menus on the website I wouldn't completely characterize it as Italian either. OK, I would say some French technique and terminology with Italian sensibilities. I don't think "Continental" really means anything anymore, though I know what you're getting at.
  2. Right, if you have the arrogance and superiority that plagued Primo, you'll have a tough go it. On the other hand, I would have a hard time giving the people what they want.

  4. I don't think he has the cheekbones for that. Maybe he can be a guest judge on "Iron Chef"?

    Amma

He's waiting for me to get there first, so he can really be the last person in NY to get there!
  6. Wow, Grimes on the cover of the Sunday NYTimes TV guide. "From Emeril and Sara to Dweezil and Lisa." (I don't see a link for this.) Grimes surveys the Food Network's offerings, with a few Grimes' insights thrown in. Where do you think this will lead?

    Compass

Are you sure he ever started? I reported on this a while back: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showto...3637&hl=compass. I live on the same block as Compass, and although I haven't been back since the change in the kitchen, I've looked at the menu in the window and have not seen any noticeable change. Also, there was no mention of the chef's name. I think that's odd.
  8. Excellent.
  9. Donna and I will gladly attend if the time remains the late afternoon or later.

Clearly, writing restaurant reviews is a far cry from writing about the health benefits of cranberry juice, or something of that genre. The people who write good restaurant reviews deserve a lot of respect from their readers.
  11. In the NYTimes today, Asimov reviews Pop's Pierogi in the West Village. I love well made pierogis, and ate them with some regularity at Teresa's when I lived in Brooklyn Heights. Except for maybe the Lower East Side, I expected to find these dumplings only in the outer boroughs. Has anyone been to Pop's yet? Are there other places to find good pierogis in Manhattan? I give this guy credit for opening a shop with a carbohydrate menu in the face of the Atkins revolution.

    Burger Club

According to Zagat 2004, it's "burger joint at Parker Meridian." Yes, that's correct, a small "b" and a small "j."

Whatever you say, I don't think you should give the impression that there's anything scientific about what we do. Among the group there is a range of tastes, which hopefully leads to some good advice on finding a good burger.

    I second that.

My burger came out medium rare instead of the rare that I ordered. The meat was good, but was not juicy and properly greasy. Blue Smoke must use mostly sirloin for their burgers. Can anyone confirm that?

I just got my first call from the NYTIMES article. A very nice woman called to inquire about joining the club. I told her that she could find us on eGullet.

I can't believe it! Maybe we're all naive.

Let's see now ... my two suggestions are now ranked #1 and #2 by the BC. I predict that my third and fourth suggestions, Fairway and PJ Clarke's, will make it a clean sweep of the top four.

I have a soft spot for Nick's because they're extra nice to my pup when I bring him there.

Fantastic! You've turned my argument around on its head. Anyway, I think PM is the closest thing to your "burgerdom" that we've had.
