    Wine without food

To me a good wine needs the right food and good food needs the right wine. This doesn't mean that I never drink wine without food, although this is usually the case if I am attending a wine tasting. By having food with my wine, I can drink that much more wine

    Wine Suggestion

It's funny, when I did a search of the St. Supery moscato 2002, I came up with a price that I thought said $121/bottle, but on closer inspection after some of the above posts, I realized that that was the case price If 10$/ 750ml bottle is too much, than might I suggest poaching in simple syrup

    Wine Suggestion

Perhaps a bit more reasonably priced, R.L. Buller's NV Fine Muscat can be had for about $12/375ml bottle. Here is the URL for a google search http://www.google.com/search?q=%22R.L.+Bul...=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8. It is fine juice and can probably rival the St. Supery, although I have to admit that I have never had that. Anyway it is similar varietally. I don't know about stylistically.

I think the rice is the jackfruit biryani. Those photos bring back some delightful memories, although I haven't had the panna cotta and flan.
  6. Maybe by "one seating" they mean that they're not turning over any tables. So at 5:30 they're seating 4 tables, at 6:30 4 more tables will be seated, and so on. Precisely!
  7. Got my call. Times were already getting somewhat limited (at least that can fit my schedule). They are currently taking reservations only until June 20th and only for re-bookings. Interestingly, Fri. May 21st is closed for a private party. In addition, while they are only having one seating per evening they are staggering the reservations. As such for a party of four I wasn't able to get a reservation later than 5:30PM. I guess I will be receiving the first pitch on re-opening day since I (had to) made it for May 20th. Not ideal, but....

    White or Red?

This is like having to choose between one's children. I love them both , but , no I can't do it. I simply cannot give either of them up

  10. johnnyd and rokinrev, welcome to eGullet! Johhnyd, I hate to differ, but I have never been overly impressed by Casa del Sol. I find Mexican food to be one of the most disappointing ethnic cuisines of the North Country. There used to be a decent restaurant , The Arizona Cafe in Hudson Falls, but they moved locations and lost first their "magic" and then their business.

Interesting. I must confess I have not been familiar with the varietal, despite having lived four years in Charlottesville - but taht was before Horton started using it. Which have you tried?
  12. My question is if they open around the same time, where will Chef Keller physically be?

    Gewurtz and Cheese?

My wife is one who will drink gewurtz (and I'm talking Z-H) if she has to, but isn't really crazy about it. She does like a good reisling, however.
  15. When was your original reservation? docsconz, Are you feeling alright today or are you just as excited as I am? I guess it helps to read the whole post! and yes, I am excited!
  16. Thai-Sushi Garden on Phila St. It is not really so much "fusion" as it is a restaurant that does Sushi and other Japanese dishes and also Thai. It is not bad, but not really special depending on what you are used to.
  17. When was your original reservation?
  18. JPW, You hit the nail on the head with those places - good but not special.

    Fondues

We recently had an apres-ski fondue dinner with visiting relatives that was a lot of fun and quite delicious. We had a cheese fondue with aged emmenthaler and several other cheeses (a good way to use up some cheeses hanging around) of good quality but otherwise uncertain further utility and a bourgognone with beef tenderloin i in hot oil. These were then served with various sauces including garlic aoli and Hoboken Eddies's Cilantro-lime hot barnecue sauce. The combination of the two sauces was particularly good. We will be doing this again. I would think shrimp and or scallops would be excellent as well. Actually, fondue holds a special place in my heart as I got my first kiss from my wife as a result of having a fondue. We were in NYC in Feb. of 1983 and were having our second date at La Fondue in midtown. I dropped a piece of bread in the pot so according to the menu I was obliged to pay for dinner. She dropped a piece and was obliged to give me a kiss
  20. Owen, good luck with your quest, although a guy with your talents shouldn't have too much of a problem!
  21. Where have you tried already? The suggestions are my best ones at this time.
  22. Outstanding! You're on the list.
