  1. I am a NJ e-gulleter. Had dinner at Elements last March (in Phx for business) - thought it was wonderful. The Sanctuary is a great place to stay, also.

Ate at Roxsand's - it was good, but I wasn't as "wowed" as I had hoped to be.

Going again in November (staying again at Sanctuary). Have to take a large group to dinner (about 28 ppl) - thinking of Roy's. Any comments?

    Thanks.

  2. We've been to Soba - a few years ago - very good. We've also been to Fatheads (for burgers, etc); have not heard of Sharp Edge, though, so maybe we'll stop by for a beer.

Not looking for any particular kind of food - just good & something other than the usual "burgh" cuisine. We're staying in Carnegie so it's pretty central to just about anywhere.

    Thanks for your recommendations!

  3. Had dinner last night here - absolutely fabulous! For starters, my husband had the crab-stuffed zucchini flowers and I had the Castallane breast of veal pasta. They were both outstanding. For entrees, I had the olive crusted salmon with spinach & artichoke hearts & my husband had the scallops with corn & arugla. They were two of the best dishes we've ever had.

Desserts were also wonderful - the summer chocolate cake with hazlenut ice cream was lovely & the nectarine/cherry crostata was just perfect.

The service was great. I don't know what our server's name was (isn't that a treat in itself?), but he was terrific -- there, but not there...

Loved the atmosphere & music and the warm, personal attention by the DePersio family is really very special. Thanks to Ryan for fitting us in at the last minute.

All in all, a great addition to the NJ food scene. We can't wait to go back.

  4. I agree - it's not perfect, but it's one of the better Italian restaurants that we've found in northern NJ. We were there last Thursday & while the food was good, the service was below par. We had a waiter I've never seen before & he was extremely slow & a little condescending. We spoke to Isabella about him when we left & she appreciated the input.

  5. Have you tried Jerry's Osteria yet? It is really wonderful. Great food & service. Very warm atmosphere. We went to a wine dinner there in June. The theme was Food & Wines of the Italian Seaside. Isabella (Jerry's wife) hosts the wine dinners & she is very knowledgeable about the food & wines of Italy. They go to Italy several times a year on buying trips. The next one may be in August & then they will start up regularly again in September.

  6. I would have to side with the customer here, but I think I can top this story.

A friend & I went to a well-known breakfast/lunch place in Montclair & as we walked in, there were two empty tables - one a four-top & one being a very small two. The sign said "seat yourself," so we did at the four-top. The waitress then came over & said this is a table for four, you'll have to sit at the table for two. Not wanting a hassle, we moved. Not more than two minutes later, another couple walks in & is given the table for four. When I questioned the waitress about this, she said rather rudely "well, it's the only table left so they had to sit there." If their policy is to only seat three or four people at a four-top, they should stick to it.

Needless to say, we won't be back there, besides the food was extremely mediocre and the service worse.

  7. Hi. I am a NJ e-gulleter coming to DC in mid-June with friends for a long weekend. We've made reservations at Kincaid's - any comments on this restaurant and/or suggestions for other places we should not miss while in DC.

Have read about Nectar & would like to try that for breakfast or lunch.

    Thanks!

  8. Yes, Jerry's Osteria in Tenafly. Definitely a cut above the rest of the Italian restaurants in the area.

Stretch's in Livingston is great for "peasant" Italian - the "chicken crisp on the bone" is outstanding.

Looking for good Italian in the Eatontown area to take my husband's father out for dinner. He is a "veal parm" kind of guy, but we'd like something a little better. Any suggestions for decent Italian at the shore? Thanks.

  9. great posting. i've only been to CF once & thought it was pretty good, but was amazed at the time people were happy to wait for a table for a chain restaurant! everytime you go by the one in Riverside Square, it's mobbed. it's like a cult. it's good to hear that the food is real & cooked to order, but why anyone would want to sit there for 3 hours is beyond me. thanks for the insight into CF.

  10. I must agree with a few of you who are not all that sad to see Blue Sky go...Visited several times & was not bowled over by the food or service.

However, I am looking forward to trying the new Chinese restaurant. There is no decent Chinese in the entire Montclair/Little Falls/Verona/Caldwell area. Only good Chinese restaurant I have found (& my husband makes us try them all!) is Bill & Harry's in East Hanover.

Thanks for the info on Blue Sky/Sesame.
