  1. I don't mean to question your statement, but I was drinking a Harp last night, and the label clearly states: Imported lager, brewed in Dundalk Ireland. It would seem strange to me that one could purchase Irish Harp here in Montreal, while only Canadian brewed Harp was available in the U.S.. I do know that bottled Guinness sold in Quebec is brewed by Labatt's (gives new meaning to the word nasty), and cans and kegs are the imported stuff, but I'm pretty sure there is no locally brewed Harp being sold here. Could it be possible you were misinformed about Canadian brewed Harp? Or could it be that this is no longer the case? Just wondering.
  2. It's about F*%#&N' time!! Felecitations et bonne chance.
  3. Absolutely! St-Viateur bagels are better than their Fairmount rivals, because of their higher sesame seed count. You see, the St-Viateur bagel averages 328 sesame seeds vs. 314 for the Fairmount bagel, making it a vastly superior bagel. Most people think they are of equal quality, but discerning gourmets such as Porkpa and myself know that this is most definitely not the case.
  4. Where dat be?
  5. Liqueurs aren't really my cup of tea, but prunelle de bourgogne is pretty good. For those who like that sort of thing.
  6. I didn't think so.
  7. Dave, is that you?
  8. I was going to post something about Le Continental's list but Alesk beat me to it. What is particularily interesting about it, at least for me, are the prices wich are similar to L'Express'.
  9. Ribo's beloved war on drugs?
  10. If someone wanted to answer this question, it might be fun to do so in a new thread. Suggested title:Most exciting wine lists. I'd start it myself, but if i can't vote for l'express, i'll abstain altogether. Well, for now at least. Dave, as you probably have guessed, the "moneybags" crack wasn't meant to be taken seriously.Just wanted that to be clear. All the best.
  11. Most certainly.Do they use Illy? I didn't think so. Guru, are you sure it is located on Bernard? I could have sworn it was on St-Viateur.
  12. I see what you 're saying, but as i mentionned, i don't think these people amount to much more than a handful. And because of the absurdity of it's reasonning, i think this whole boycot thing will blow over fairly quickly. Also, the likes of us should not worry about Moneybags Mcmillan's bottom line!
  13. I don't want to get into this whole issue because i think it's ridiculous. Let me just say that if Dave chose to carry only French wines, it's because it was part of his concept, and he should not have to change this for a handful of people who probably don't even know why they're boycotting French wines to begin with. Let them drink cake er i mean coke.
  14. Yes, Illy.Isn't that how you say overrated in italian? Seriously, i may be on crack, but i have yet to go to one place that sells Illy coffee that makes anything worthy of being mentionned on this thread. Don't be fooled by the funky little cups.(the little froggee ones are my favourites) Also, there are so many other factors that come in to play:water temperature, machine maintenance, grind level, the monkey making the coffee etc... By no means is it bad coffee,it's actually pretty good, i just don't think that it's "all that" Edited to add that crack about being on crack.
  15. I had always been under the impression that when a recipe called for dry vermouth, that it meant white vermouth.
  16. ornellaia?
  17. eat2much,when you say "here"you 're refering to Montreal are you not? If so, where exactly?SAQ Signature?I have not seen it around myself .Thanx for the info.
  18. So, as i mentionned in the secret restaurant thread,Caffe Electra makes a mean espresso.I could also nominate Toi,Moi et Cafe in the best cafe au lait category as well as the absolute worst name category. Maybe that could be the topic of yet another thread! Then again, maybe not.
  19. Exactly,it's a compromise.Even the most hardcore smokers will greatly reduce the amount of cigarettes they'll have during the course of dinner if they have to get up and go the bar to light up.Many smokers will even abstain from smoking altogether if such a policy is in place. The dining room may not be completely smoke free, but the person at the next table (only inches away) won't be blowing smoke in your face either.
  20. Lucca in little italy is non smoking except for the bar, where chronic nicotine junkies can get their fix after the main course, while their molten chocolate cakes are baking.
  21. Restaurants were given ten years to comply to said law, roughly five years ago.
  22. Juniper berries are used in choucroute , are they not?
  23. I may be wrong, but i believe this refers to mouthfeel.
