  1. I always walk out of The Dining Room at Anthony David’s, 111 10th Street, Hoboken with a smile on my face. The food is excellent, service sublime and atmosphere relaxing. We started off with additive Italian bread that we dipped into fruity olive oil. Appetizers were sublime. Do not miss the mussels with orange, cream, pernod and fennel. These ingredients work and I especially enjoyed dipping the mussel shells into the broth for an extra tasty treat. Other delights were a warm potato tart with prosciutto, caramelized onions and micro greens; and an outrageously delicious pumpkin ravioli with a butter sage sauce. Entrees also pleased the palate. We had tenderloin of pork (guess who had that); sea bass with Brussels sprouts and flecks of prosciutto; gnocchi with lobster; and cassoulet chock full of rabbit, sausage, veal, pheasant and beans topped with crunchy bread crumbs. I loved everything. Desserts are great here. We were stuffed and bypassed the cheeses that this restaurant is famous for. However we devoured the bourbon sauced doughnuts, cinnamon sugar beignets, and apple tart. Do try this restaurant even though the parking in Hoboken is awful. For reservations call 201-222-8359.
  2. For those of you who may be traveling to Portland, Maine and miss the cuisine of Chef David Joseph he has opened: Eatery Cafe 111 Middle Street Portland ME 207-761-9281 Serving breakfast and lunch, m-f, 7am to 2pm. Counter service, delivery and take-out available.
  3. I remember Syds when it was on the ocean. We used to walk from Belmar to Bradley for their hot dogs and french fries. I believe they double fried the fries.

  5. I can recommend Seven Hills. This restaurant is fancier than the other Turkish storefront restaurants. Waiters are in costume and the place is decorated nicely. For appetizers we like the sample plate and a coban salad with feta cheese. The plate contains green beans in olive oil; white beans in olive oil; grilled eggplant salad; humus; rolled pastry with feta cheese that had been fried; and a fresh artichoke. For entrees we have liked the tender lamb kabob; Iskender which is thin slices of beef and/or lamb over Turkish bread with yogurt and tomato sauce; and the chicken kebab. Dinners come with rice, grilled tomato and hot pepper. Desserts we have liked were the sampler plate which contains a creamy rice pudding, baklava, kadayif (shredded dough with pastacio nuts), and a Turkish pastry with cream and pistachio nuts inside. Prices are very reasonable. BYO. The restaurant does not use pork products and only serves Halal meat. Haven't been there is awhile but I would think that the menu is the same.
  6. OK--I'll let them know that there is a problem.

  8. Do you mean the glitch they recently had? Not sure. Try again and let us know. If you mean the questions about privacy then this is what Beth Bressman wrote: " Okay, everyone, here it is from the horse's mouth... New Jersey Monthly does NOT use these names for any other purpose other than to help protect against fraud. We don't have the time or the staffing to put the names into any kind of format for use to people, nor do we care to. Basically, we look at the ballots for patterns of fraud... such as the same handwriting on paper ballots, or the same IP address for electronic ballots, or the same restaurant in every category (yes, it happens). The ballots then go the the accounting firm, where the votes are tallied. (Don't know which firm it will be this year.) The ballots then get sent back, where we box them up and hold onto them for a year or so in case of any problems. People are either giving us too much credit or too little, but we don't lie. As for the privacy policy, it is general and applies to the site as a whole. Perhaps next year we'll post a note with the ballot saying that we are not collecting this information to use or to sell." over the years i've found that if you order what the Perlows order, you'll be all sorted out. ABSOLUTELY. There are certain restaurants that you should never go to without the Perlows! It will make a difference between a so-so meal and a fabulous unforgettable experience. They get it right all the time.

Well--we may have to have this dinner again so David can get the pictures right!
  20. Nova Terra, Rafferty’s, or Teresa’s. There is an Italian restaurant Toscana on George St but I have not heard anything about it. For a very casual inexpensive meal and/or hamburger you can go to Tumulty's Pub.

"My head is spinning and my legs are weak". And YOU would not believe what you were talking about! Did everyone love Glenn's Birthday cake? Wasn't it the best?
  24. "So besides soul food i have another question.. Has anyone been into the live animal market on elizabeth avenue. I drive by and see a huge building that says live animals on the outside. Then there are pictures of pretty much every animal big and small on the outside of the building. Pretty interesting. " Remember that there has recently been a problem with Avian disease or something like that at the live poultry markets. Once bought a live duck at a live poultry market in Perth Amboy. Quite an experience.

And Glenn---we didn't forget your birthday cake. You left too early. Ryan didn't have enough candles and had to send someone to the store to buy six more packages of candles.
