  1. Dinner last night was at Epernay, Montclair. If you plan on going here within the next few weeks be sure to call as the chef's wife is due any minute and they will be closing for 2 weeks once the baby is born. Apps were  onion soup; mussles with white wine, garlic and parsley; a mixed green salad; and a tender octopus, calamari and chick pea salad (yummmmy). Entrees were herb and pepper crusted tuna with lentil salad; calves liver with onions and roasted apples; and whole roasted trout with artichokes and potatoes. Our plates were licked clean. Oh-and of course we had a side of french fries served with a mustard sauce. Desserts were a lemon tart; creme brulee; fresh berries; and an apple pie. We rolled out of the place. BYO.

  2. Rail Paul--Six people can go to the same restaurant on the same night, order the same thing and even have the same waiter and come out with six and sometimes seven

opinions! The purpose of the NJ forum is to write about NJ restaurants and food and food and food!  So keep those opinions coming and everyone should be sure to let us know about everyplace that they have dined

  3. I run the matzah under water for a few seconds and then break it into small pieces with my hands into a bowl. I use one matzah for two jumbo eggs. I like to break up the eggs when they are cooking. Some people like this dish to be like an omelet. Also, add salt and pepper. I sometimes have grape jelly on the side.

  4. So, dads and soon to be dads or want-a-be dads---

Are you going out for dinner on Father's Day? Are you staying home? Tell us your plans. And while you're at it tell us about the interesting gifts you received especially if they are food related.

  5. [it does make sense to include some restaurants on the NY or PA border for those people who live near there.]

Have you looked at a map? Garrison, NY is not on the border of NJ.

Dodge--Lowell and I will often drive over 100 miles round trip to a restaurant and we have driven to Xavier's in Garrison and lived further away in Edison at that time.

  7. After reading the reasons that The Bergen Record goes out of NJ to review I have changed my mind ( a bit) on this matter. It does make sense to include some restaurants on the NY or PA border for those people who live near there. Also, learning about destination restaurants is a plus. But since I "specialize" in NJ restaurants I prefer to read about NJ restaurants.

When I was reviewing restaurants I found that if you wrote a good review the chef would think you were brillant--a food goddess! If you wrote a bad review you didn't know what you were talking about! A review is one person's opinion and information about their two experiences at the restaurant. If you usually agree with the reviewer follow their advice. If you don't then do the opposite of what they suggest. BTW-- a reviewer has to eat alot of bad meals also. It's not necessarily a cream puff job.

  8. That's funny. There was a story going around some time ago about a couple at a hot NY restaurant that had been waiting a long time for their table. The husband got on the phone and ordered a pizza to be delivered to the restaurant.
