Anthony--Every vote in the Readers' Choice Restaurant Poll counts. An outside auditing firm is used to ensure that all votes are counted and treated fairly. The auditing team also inspects the ballots for signs of ballot stuffing and other fraud. So please vote! Your vote is important.

Bread at Gina's Paneficio is excellent. Lowell sometimes drives into Montclair just for their bread. Osbourne's has been closed a LONG time. Are they open now?

Just a reminder that your vote counts.

Thanks for the report. Is it near Corso 98? We went to Island Style Restaurant, 33 Walnut St a few months back and were disappointed.

Where did you read $10? I saw $2 per bottle liquor service. In any case, yes it is illegal. This is the law. Unless there is a local ordinance prohibiting it, customers of an unlicensed restaurant may be permitted by the ownership of the restaurant to bring and consume only wine and beer. THE RESTAURANT CAN SUPPLY GLASSES, ICE, ETC., BUT MAY NOT IMPOSE A COVER, CORKAGE OR SERVICE CHARGE. Also, under no circumstances may spirituous liquor be permitted. There may be no advertising whatsoever of the fact that wine or beer may be permitted. Additionally, the owner may not permit wine or beer to be consumed during hours in which the sale of these products is prohibited by licensees in that municipality, nor allow consumption of beer or wine by persons under the age of 21 years or by persons who are actually or apparently drunk or intoxicated. (N.J.S.A. 2A:170-25.21 through 25.23).

I know where it is. Wasn't it a Chinese restaurant years ago?

Great idea. Post a new topic--South Jersey Restaurants and list the places that you like to dine at. We sometimes get to the southern part of the state! Thanks for taking the time to give us this information.

Are you going out for Valentine's Day? Where? Which NJ restaurants do you consider romantic? Some that come to mind are Amanda's, Andre's, Bernard's Inn, Cafe Matisse, Jocelyne's, Rat's and Sergeantsville Inn. Any others?

We go to Costco on Rt 10 but the one in Willowbrook Mall is bigger and has liquor.

A little further down the Parkway in Asbury Park is Moonstruck. Eclectic American cuisine. Red Bank has many small restaurants. If Sogno is open for lunch do go there.

Haven't tried it yet. Another place on my "go to" list.
-
Have not been but have also heard from other people that this place is very good and worth the trip. It's on my "go to" list.
-
It's been on Channel 2, 4 and 7. Lots on Sunday AM with all of the money/political shows. Also, often on Mon. night during football games.

Thanks rhubarbd. I don't think Glenn would believe me if I told him that the restaurant WAS open.

YES it is. It seems that the company making the commercial was in Montclair and came into Blue Sky I think to eat. They were looking for "ordinary--everyday--working" individuals around Montclair. They spent a day at Blue Sky filming.

Chef/owner Martin Plastiak put a "le" in front of his nickname "Fandy" and came up with the name of his new restaurant "Le Fandy" located at 609 River Road, Fair Haven. This is a very small space and reservations are not taken. We were told that after 6:30 on weekends you usually have to wait for a table. Weekdays are not a problem. Not only is this restaurant small but you may want to eat before you dine here as the portions are very small as well. The menu lists nine appetizers, five fish entrees, three meat courses and one vegetarian entrée. We ordered fish as Chef Plastiak is formerly from Le Bernardin, New York City. One problem we had with all of the dishes was that they were underseasoned. Yellowfin tuna carpaccio was spread so thinly on a small plate that we thought it was a thin layer of sauce. The menu listed that the tuna was brushed lightly with a ginger lime mayonnaise but we couldn't taste it. Pepper added some flavor to this bland dish. Lowell had shrimp marinated with cilantro on a bed of green lentils and fois gras sauce. We could not taste the cilantro or the foie gras. However, the shrimp were perfectly cooked. Entrees were also minute. The halibut was boring with oyster mushrooms, prosciutto, and braised romaine lettuce. Again--no flavors. The monkfish was the best of the four dishes we tried but by no means worth ordering again. It came cinnamon crusted surrounded by a mushroom ragout, roasted garlic mashed potatoes and a red wine glaze. The portion of potatoes was three times the size of the fish. On this dish I could taste the cinnamon and thought the red wine glaze was delicious. We opted for a cheese course for dessert. When we asked the waitress what cheeses were on the menu she told us Swiss and four French cheeses! We each had a tiny taste of each cheese and although the cheese was served cold we liked this course the best. However we had to ask twice for some bread for our cheese. Also, when we were first seated a roll was placed on our bread plate and never replaced. $92 with tax and tip; BYO. Phone: 732-530-3338.

How did you decide what to serve at your wedding? Was it easy to pick out a menu because of your knowledge of food? Or was it harder because you do know food? Any advice for people who are planning a catered event?

I prefer bread warm but don't mind if it is at room temperture as long as it is fresh.
-
I called Blue Sky. They bake their bread daily and it is kept at room temperture. It is never refrigerated. Don't know what to tell you about the bottled water. When we have been there they ask if we want bottled or tap water. I always get tap water. Do you know the waitress/waiter's name? I am sure management would want to know which waitstaff told you that they always serve cold bread.
-
I don't like cold bread either. But I can't remember if I had cold bread or not at Blue Sky. I'll check to see how they serve it. Did you have dessert?
