I, too, don't have a smart phone, but I was able to take a photo of the QR code (MCAH), use http://www.onlinebarcodereader.com/ to get a URL, copy the URL into the browser (Firefox), where I was asked for a verification code, which I entered. But then I was redirected to a page with a URL that began http://mobile/ That is not a valid URL. Fortunately, when I looked at my profile, the verification did seem to work.
You really need to do a better job of testing out smartphone-less verification, and maybe have a plain text URL on the sticker.
And just to top off the web bugs, the registration/verification resulted in an automated email offering me a discount on an MCAH eBook, but the email was in HTML and there were some extra blank lines inserted in the header so that mail readers would not recognize the HTML.
