Sorry to hear that, happy to send you some tomatoes for some of your stone fruit!!! Also doing Husk Cherries this year, which are booming and the kids are just loving. Anything sweet that one can grow where little ones can go hand to mouth, is a beautiful thing.

LOL...yes, its called - No Pollution/Smog!!! God's Country!

Good lord... Has Kawartha Dairy not made it's way out East yet!? Our Ontario neighbours surely have no excuses! Chapman's....oy!
-
@Okanagancook - Do you pull the 'shoots' off your tomato plants? Were those started from seed inside or purchased? I started our tomatoes this year from seed indoors under a good LED. Stalks are between 1-3" and each plant has well over a dozen 'maters and the grape/cherry varieties are going nuts.

I will join you ladies with a nice glass of Soave Classico Perfect for this balmy S. Ontario heat! Cheers!

Mmmm pistachio almond cake - 2 of my favourite things. You are killing me here, Kerry!

That sign in the last post reminded me of when I used to drink beer - how AMAZING Delirium is! If they had that on offer....forget Guinness 😛

I laughed. Though I have never dined at Arby's - I can attest (and appreciate!) to their sense of humor!

Let me help with this one.... "American Processed cheese on a club is not a controversy; it's a friggin' travesty."

Looking good - minus those ghastly alien looking green sticks....your fantastically tempered chocolate is screaming in horror!

Not sure I have ever seen Pistachio flour (and organic, at that!)....very intrigued, I absolutely love pistachios...

Good call on the Argentinian shrimp. Besides the fresh (and exorbitant) BC Spot Prawns, those are the best I have had. Also, clean waters and far better fishing practices than the Chinese, I only buy these frozen beauties now.

I tried making some recently, came out very salty. This stuff is reasonable and extremely good.

Jogging around Jogjakarta (aka yogging around Yogyakarta)

What's with those rolled up cones on top of the rice? As soon as I saw those, I thought 'PP Tee Pee' (those with young boys, will know)! -

@KennethT - a man after my own heart (don't tell my wife!). Your Fruit/butter knife story made me laugh out loud as it reminds me of various trips of ours with me hoarding local fruit back to our hotel only to have a butter knife (to deal with Mangos, passion fruit, jack fruit, and the like) to work with. But we make do - anything for the love of fresh, ripe, local fruit! BTW - I can tell just by the color of the pineapple alone, it was unreal - totally ripe! Mmmmm! -
On the topic of Sauerkraut - while Bubbies is ok...if you want the real McCoy...check out, Costco of all places! A recent find (a few months back) led me to - 'Wildbrine - Raw Organic' It is fantastic, unpasteurized, full flavoured stuff. As good as I have had from the local Mennonites who make it. Super healthy too.

No spraying of any sort goes on in my garden besides that of my water hose! Full till organic soil.

Correlation between Miracle Whip users and Ketchup users?
TicTac replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
Funny how as I am walking down Costco today, my wife chimes - we need mayo, and my mind jaunts to this thread! I see 2 options in ginormous format - Hellmans and Kirkland Brand...not having seen the Kirkland brand before, I compared the ingredients (which appear to be nearly identical, though one had water, the other none) and decided to give the Kirkland brand a chance, at 20% cheaper than the name brand. Oh, and as far as Ketchup goes, we found a new brand a few years ago called 'Simply Organics' which makes the most unreal ketchup we have had! Ketchup on eggs, meh - Ketchup on Mac & Cheese, often - Ketchup on the side to dip your grilled cheese into - always! -
Curious to hear about the onion relish... Northern Ontario and not Kawartha!? Oy!
-
It's all about exposure and education. Not knowing how old your kids are or how much you have told them about where their food comes from; I cannot comment much further than that. I can tell you that with my 6 year old, he loves fish eye balls, cheeks, and my other little guy loves sweetbreads -
-
Curious - toasted onion relish? I am a Strubs fan...never seen that one before! Also, hoping that ice cream is Kawartha's!!!!

Heh...that or I think back to my days as a Foolish 'Yout and our Roman Candle fights....oh boy.....

Add in a few self inflicted firework burns as well for good measure!

Looks great, Shelby. Do you harvest garlic at various stages of Spring development, or just when bulbs are large? I experimented this year with a few zucchini plants in large pales - we have had tons of zucchini flowers and at least a dozen baby zucchini (we like them small, though I do leave some to get as large as the above). Apparently the heat containment from the pale has made the zucc's very happy girls. The ones in the ground are doing equally well, though not as early of producers, far larger and they are producing at least 4-6 flowers (I hope you eat those, Shelby!) on a daily basis. Garlic Scapes are up, as are the snap peas. It is an exciting time for us lovers 'o food!
