  1. Years ago when we were in Portland one of my claims to fame is finding 2 Lights in an early September evening with the fog setting in. For us it was a time to remember with the food and the gorgeous setting. One day we have to return.
  2. Returned from Bermuda a few days ago. Lovely place. Unfortunately we were attendind a wedding and we had no chance to really dine on our own. We were part of a party of fifteen or so at Tio Pepe but the food was all right but one cannot judeg anything with a group that large. Thanks for all the suggestions. Perhaps one day we will return with more time on our hands.
  3. I live five minutes from the place but I yet have to visit it, which I have been meaning to do since they opened several months ago. The place appears to offer a full luncheon menu and appears to be quiet nice, unlike the original in Trenton. Your visit has inspired me to eat there soon.
  4. I always though that Route 22 runs east west. It is one of the old national highways.
  5. We will be in Austin the weekend of July 27 and we will the various suggestions on this board. We will have to decide on a few from so many. Salt Lick is a sure thing. The others have yet to be chosen. Thanks.
  6. I am not a vegeterian and usually avoid such place, but we made a special drive to Blue Sage and I was more than impressed by they food served. I think it may be the only vegeterian in Bucks County and well worth a longer journey.
  7. There is also one in Langhorne, in front of Oxford Valley Mall, as I mentioned somewhere else. We were there a few months ago. We had the sampler. Did not like the St Louis ribs. The baby back ribs were all right. In this area there is little else available. On a Tuesday night the service was satisfactory. Eventually we will return but not on a weekend when the wait can be too long for comfort or sanity.
  8. I guess my participation in the Pizza Club will have to wait again. We are leaving for a weeding in Bermuda on August 3rd. It should be a lot cooler at the next outing and hopefully I can make it. Enjoy the pizza and have fun.
  9. I read the article in disbelief. No place is worth waiting an hour much less two. I have never eaten at a Cheesecake Factory although I have had the opportunity. On a very rainy Saturday night we stopped at the new Smokey Bones in front of Oxford Valley Mall. We were hungry and we are willing to try any rib place once. The wait was an hour. We departed quietly.
  10. Here's a link to the aforementioned article. You may need to register (free, so it says) ← The article is not free. You have to be a NYT subscriber or pay to read its content.
  11. I second the idea of a Princeton location. It would be a natural even with all the competion. It as busy a street as any small town can handle.
  12. All this many years of eating at Italian restaurants in Trenton and Lower Bucks I always assumed that they were all nearly southern Italian. There was one place that claimed to be northern Italian. The one time there I could not distinguish from all other Italian I have dined in. I be on the look out for how the local Italian restaurants classify themselves.
  13. Down here in South Jersey there are a number of places for softshell crabs. The best ones are off the beaten path. Try Crabby's on route 50 in Mays Landing/Belcoville which is fairly easy to gety to. Everything is fresh. Also for the ones who believe getting there is half the fun try the Shellpile Resturant. Its in Shellpile which is right next Bivalve. You have to buy a membership to have beer with your crabs. The softshell farm/ranch is right next to the place. They don't get much fresher. Call ahead to make sure they are open. ←

    honey

We don't venture into Phila that often but last Friday we visited the Weyth exhibition at the PMA and driving down from Yardley we stopped for lunch at Honey's Sit n Eat at Brown & Fourth, our first in that neighborhood. I had read about the place months ago and had it on my mind. It is in an area, I guess, that is undergoing some kind of transformaton. This place is a quirky old fashion luncheonette and what I had was very good. I think of myself as somewhat of an authority on matzho ball soup and the bowl was very good. The half pastrami was lean and as good as a pastrami as I have had in a long time, including places in Manhattan. The place is open until four and closed Mondays, I think.
  15. Welcome back. I assume you are here to stay after your year in Rome. I intend to visit the RTM very soon by train from Yardley. I am a very patient man.
  16. I like the word "chainifying." As someone who came to English as a second language, albeit as a nearly fourteen-yearold, I am going to have to look into "chainifying." English was also a second language to Joseph Conrad.
  17. Excellent report. Sounds intriguing. We spent a week in New Orleans in 1999 and fondly remember the experience, we hit many of the popular places and some off the beaten track. This place sounds quirky enough to be worth a long drive although its seven o'clock closing is not very encouraging.
  18. Sorry to read what has happened to the area near Applegate Farms. I recall it being a very busy area, with the mall. all kind of stores and heavy traffic even on a weekend when I usually drove by there. I go back many years and Freehold, both the borough, whick is small, and the township, which is much larger, have changed beyond anyone's belief. I guess that is progress and the spurt in population growth. Hope to visit Applegate's soon.
  19. First saw Five Guys while spending a weekend in Alexandria, VA. We did not eat at one but later heard some very good things about it from very reliable food mavens. Waiting for one to open in Lower Bucks County. I expect it should not be too long.
  20. My intentions are still to make one of the pizza excursions. Unforfunately not this Sunday, we have an engagement dinner for the son of a friend of ours. Hopefully next time in somewhat cooler weather. Enjoy the pizza.
  21. Just looked up the Applegate's website. They have a place in Freehold, which is not that far, and I tend to travel through Freehold several times a year. Next trip it will be a visit to Applegate for ice cream.
  22. As someone who will detour far for good ice cream I will have to keep Applegate's on my list of potential detours next time I am in the area. Good ice cream is disappearing from the American landscape. Hope to be there by summer's end.
  23. It's about time that Phildelphia City Council showed some sense. Most small, quality restaurants have been nonsmoking for many years. Exempting bars makes good sense but if food is served there should be a separate room for nonsmokers to enjoy the food, if they so wish.
  24. Although thery are in a very competetive market, if they offer variey, quality with superior service they should do very well although it may take some time. It requires a year or more for most new ventures to make a profit. Over a year ago when we were buying wine at the Pensauken store for our dinner at Shola's, the staff was wonderfully helpful. I wish them well in their new venture.
  25. Looks very enticing. Nice job. My earliest memories are of a bakery in another world more than sixty-five years ago and I love the sight and smell of almost every bakery. At the first opportunity I will have to visit the Flying Monkey.
