That's not the final packaging....We are going for something more ostentatious this time. Jeff

Some changes are being made - including a number of programmatic additions. That's why the android dev test program is not released yet.
-
1) We'll have a solution for this later 2) interrupt detection being worked on 3) multi-step is in the control protocol set for developers already 4) we are having an internal debate right now to include it or not. This feature might probably get misused and lead to food safety problems.

I'm working on the APP for the precision cooker right now - does anyone have any requests?
-
what I meant was - we couldn't talk about the unit or post on social media / forums
-
FYI - We were also on a media blackout this morning so news media could get a first crack at the story.

Hi Guys, I appreciate everyone's support on this project. Anyways we didn't expect 1K units @ $99 would be backed so quickly - thought it would take at least a 2-3 days to get through a thousand. Currently there are more funding levels being added in to create more time for you guys to get units at lower prices. Thanks Jeff

As I'm in the process of developing new equipment with our team, I'd just like get the pulse of everyone in this forum about our usage of LCDs: 1) What do you really feel about the use of LCDs in our equipment? 2) Do you have preference for LCD display features or LED longevity or care more about overall design? 3) Do you think LCD screens out of place in a kitchen environment or on sous vide equipment?

You have a 50/50 chance if you go the blow dryer route but I do not recommend it - if there is a water behind a microchip or in the motor you won't get it out. Some guy also got creative and tried to vacuum seal the circulator and then hit it with a blow dryer - that is not quite the same as vac-oven because the bag is closed and the water recondenses as soon as the bag is open.
-
[Moderator note: The original Anova Sous Vide Circulator topic reached the maximum size the eG servers handle efficiently, so we've divided it up; the preceding part of this discussion is here: Anova Sous Vide Circulator (Part 1)] I had to post this because this is happening more and more often now : If you drop your unit into water: Do not power it on!!! We have industrial vacuum ovens that can dry things out in a flash and recover the unit - if you power on, the unit will short out - meaning you probably will be buying a new unit.

I've got a number of reports of people running the system without the stainless steel skirt. There are 2 very important reasons why you do not want to do that. 1) Your bag wraps the heating coils and the heaters will melt a hole in your bag spilling your contents. This was a problem with DIY system in the past with naked heating coils. 2) Your bag gets caught in the impeller tearing a hole and spilling contents - which I already think someone posted on.
-
We are working through them - most are going out this week.

http://forums.egullet.org/topic/145431-anova-sous-vide-circulator-available-anyone-try-it/page-12#entry1933226 Not that big of a change. If you don't use the timer feature, you probably wont know the difference. On the hardware side is mostly a bunch of optimization tweaks: 1) the sensor got reoriented as mentioned above. 2) opened up the water intake slightly so the system sucks air less when you are running a few inches of water. 3) reoriented the internal fan so the unit runs a bit cooler The hardware is getting done as well for anyone that wants the upgrade

I clean internals about once every 1-2 months - unless you get a spill or bag break. Sous vide is generally pretty clean and honestly I think switching out bath water after a few uses is more important.

please see comments below Congrats!!! You just located our patented low water level electrode sensor. It is pulling charged particles from your water, sides of your pot, particles sticking to you bag, dust in the air is all going to stick to it. Discoloration is normal and does not affect anything. Depending on your water source (drilled well, or city water,) you will get colorations from shades brown to all shades of grey, to black. This sensor also stops the unit as soon as you pull the system out of water and is the only system that has an instantaneous stop. There is also a hard switch bi-metal fuse imbedded with the heater for redundant safety. @Robenco15 The bent sensor is the Temp probe - I had it reoriented in newest V2 units after people started cleaning and dropping their units on the probe bending it out of shape. The reorientation allows the point of impact to be on the heating coils which can take a beating.

Anova upgrade from V1 to V2 systems Option 1: You pay shipping back to us and we will update you system for free. e-mail: sousvide (at) waterbaths.com for return address and instructions Option 2: Take this 7 question survey and we will send you a shipping label(shipping is free) for the return. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KDLG8SB I would advise you guys do this within the next 2 weeks before production goes into overdrive for Christmas.

I'm back!!! - I've been at work retooling production for the past 3 weeks and leads times will be a thing of the past by this Friday....unless you want to order 1000 units. 1st - I'm working on a deal to get everyone updated to a 2.0 unit - just bear with me for a day or so until I get everything worked out my end. 2nd - Click and Hold numeric scrolling is delayed for implementation - there was no clear consensus in a small 30 unit beta I ran - some people liked it some people hated it and wanted it removed because they over scrolled. Maybe the sample size was too small but there is no clear consensus. 3rd - new timer is dual mode - first mode is like a stop watch and just beeps - the second is a unit hard stop like the original. You can also start the timer any time during the run which I think is convenient. By the way Kerry Beal makes fantastic chocolate - I had a small sampling

Working on retail distribution now - a lot of them want strait up consignment which is okay with us but our end we need to increase production to provide units. Thanks for letting us know! I ordered one late Tuesday night and was wondering how long they take. So it takes +/- a week before it even gets shipped? Will it ship from TX where you guys are located? I'm just trying to estimate how long until it reaches my door and I can try it. This will be my first adventure with sous vide, so excuse my excitement. ;-) It's always been out of the range of what I was willing to pay until now.I hope you guys are planning a way to handle the influx of orders you're going to receive after reviews start coming in about your product. Systems are batch produced right now which is how most scientific instrumentation companies build products. Production control starts batches every Tues and Thurs which is why everyone sees Mon/Fri ship outs. There probably will need to be a shift to assembly line operation with some sub assembly outsourcing very very soon. If this is your first time doing sous vide start with something simple and easy like sous vide sweet corn on the cob (which is the best corn you will ever have). Back in 2009 I saw some guys at MIT sous viding with old lab circulators so I tried it for the first time at the office and was an epic disaster with bags opening up and lab circulators tinted with fishy smells for months. I didn't attempt this technique again for a year until I made something decent which led me to pitched this product idea at an internal meeting. I'm sure forum members here can pitch in with a few starter ideas. The systems are not firmware updatable by customers - you would have to open up the system to be able to do that. I had a multifunction mini USB-A slot built in on the side but they didn't survive well in a kitchen that is "fume heavy" - I have to be PC about how I say it.
-
I tested a keypad/arrow system but we can't build interfaces just for one subset of people - we have to design for everyone's accessibility. Have you considered other people have larger fingers? This was made abundantly clear during our beta last year.
-
Thermapens have a ±0.7°F deviation - you shouldn't consider even using that as an absolute standard. God knows what is drift is on that thing and also if you are testing under lab standards temperature baths where parameters are held constant. The one only standard that can be used for temperature calibration is this http://us.flukecal.com/products/temperature-calibration/its-90-temperature-standards/5681-5683-5684-and-5685-quartz-sheat-0. Unfortunately these babies are 3K to 7K a piece and we keep them under lock and key. You are asking a lot out of a $199.00 unit - its hard to find something that even comes close this unit's functionality unless you want a $1K to $2K lab unit
-
Yes - you would have to significantly immerse the colored portion but you would have a wet counter before that.
-
Your unit is being built. Units are built on order and take about a week +- a few day depending on order volumes that week
-
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I investigated the issue today at production and found out that one dude (a new guy) was reading meter values wrong - I told him he was making me look bad. Anyways production control caught this last week and already self corrected. Solutions: 1) bump up your set temp (0.9C) 2) use the self calibration function that I posted 3) I can do it for you if you really want to send your unit back to me

The system uses a resistive touch screen right now - Here is an over view on resistive screens Wikipedia and why we chose it. This type of screen isn't as UI friendly as an iPod or cellphone ( has capacitive screens that has multi-touch / drag functions) but it is fantastically durable. There are a lot of UI constraints on what I can do with a 2.7' resistive unit - If we ever switch to a capacitive screen I'll make the UI fly. No the cooling fan off cannot be turned off. Also make sure what you are hearing is not the pump sucking air because of low water level.
-
Mid point guidance is for overtopping your container not for electronics. It is also for the pump - so it does not suck air (happens during low water level) which makes a constant gurgling noise.
