I agree with just about all the posters on this thread. It's something I can share with my kids. My four year old found the kid cookbook on the shelf and started reading it a couple of days ago. She has asked to help with dinner every day since then. It's so cool.
Bought my first pair of Dansko's six years ago, while pregnant with my daughter. I now have several different styles and wear almost no other brand of shoe. Superbly comfortable. Birkenstocks aren't cushioned enough for me - great for every day but not if I have to do a lot of standing or walking. Don't know about the men's sizes, but I wear a women's 7 1/2 D, and Dansko's fit right out of the box.
Ambrosia has moved from Congressional to a location just south of Montgomery College. It's in a little strip near the Staples. And India Grill (also formerly located in the Congressional shopping strip recently razed to the ground) has relocated north to the Ritchie Center, home of IHOP and several interesting ethnic markets. And Tom Sietsema's review of Urban Bar-B-Que today sounds very promising. Urban Bar-B-Que 2007 Chapman Ave. (at Twinbrook Parkway) Rockville, MD 20852 Phone: 240-290-4827
Great thread. My children are being baptized at the Easter vigil service Sat evening, so we will be hosting an Easter buffet after church on Sunday for their godparents and assorted family members. My hope is that this thread will give me some good ideas of what to serve.
Thanks Brooks, that's interesting. My crawfish-craving husband would probably get 2 sacks, and invite a bunch of folks over. He'd want leftovers for crawfish pizza too.
My dear husband has been pestering me to agree to have a crawfish boil. He's found sites that will Fedex to Maryland, but the minimum order is 40 pounds. Forty punds of squirming arthropods dumped on my doorstep... If he succeeds in talking me into it this year, all DC area egulleteers will be more than welcome to come help him eat them. Knowing Scott, plenty of beer will be involved.
We're moving in 5 days, so I'm emptying the freezer of all the random stuff. Plus half of the kitchen is in boxes. Tonight's dinner was: "Chik Nuggets" (Morningstar farms, made of soy) Not horrid with barbecue sauce. The kids really liked these. Fresh steamed broccoli Pumpernickel bread and butter Milk Almond cake with chocolate frosting. All served on paper plates.
My mother made a mousse with cucumbers, cottage cheese, and lime jello every year at Easter - I could look up the recipe if you need a side dish. Or if you need something red, her raspberry tomato aspic might do the trick.
I'm in too. We'd happy to send whatever we can. My 4 1/2 year old wanted to know what a soldier was the other day. She'd be excited to mail something overseas to someone who is helping to keep us safe. Do the army, navy, etc. have programs where you can find soldiers (serving in Iraq or elsewhere) to help and send care packages to?
Oven fried, panko crusted chicken Buttermilk mashed potatoes Salad of mixed baby greens, hydro cucumber, and yellow pepper Homemade ranch dressing (mayo, buttermilk, chives, dill) Skim milk for everyone Chocolate peanut butter cup ice cream, with a Reese's PB Cup on the side.
