  1. I might be in too. I'm anxious to try this place out, especially with folks who I know understand what a great steak is!
  2. How bout brined, dry rubbed, and grilled chicken wings? Also, to keep us cool of course, maybe a big batch of Sangria?
  3. Ooops, got my threads mixed up. Please disregard my post above.
  4. Did this happen? I would have gone, but due to a screwup by the mental midgets at Comcast, I didn't have access to the internet this weekend, so I didn't know what was going on Where are the pics?
  5. tequila
  6. Let's invite some of the employees from Good Guys to our event!
  7. How about picnic tables and beer taps? and a private swimming pool
  8. Al: If you want to show off your butt (your girlfriend should like that), I can do brisket instead. Nah, you go ahead. Besides, I'd have to go to someone else's place on Saturday or VERY early Sunday to use their grill to make it. I'll think of something else. I have a feeling some of you all will get to try my butt eventually.
  9. Has anyone else been here? Now that I've moved to an apt a few blocks away, I'm curious to try it out.
  10. I'm in if it's not too far away. Chantilly or Aldie is too much of a haul for me this Sunday, but in the future, I could head further outta town. What park would we go to if we did the Rib Pit?
  11. al- i googled it and it's MAS Tapas on monticello rd. i couldn't for the life of me remember the name-way too much sangria and other brain cell killers that nite. That was one whacky evening.
  12. Stunning. Congratulations Steve. Deleted that post of yours, eh, Mr Rocks? I'll have whatever you were drinking last night
  13. Hmm. The butt might already be in someone else's hands, butt I'd like to go nonetheless I'd be happy to bring some other protein based item. I don't have any kids, but I suppose I could borrow my godsons if need be. I think I'll bring my girlfriend instead.
  14. My memory is a bit foggy due to the all day wine tour that day, but I remember going to a tapas joint in C'ville that I enjoyed. It seemed to be in a kinda iffy neighborhood, but it had lots of outdoor seating and a funky bar area. Anyone know the name?
  15. I just went through and read this whole thread. Note to self: Be there next year!
  16. Braise it! You should be able to make something cheaply, so what's the harm in giving a braise a try? Try not to flip much. Ideally, I think you should only have to give it one flip, though a second one might be necessary should the first side not be as cooked as you'd like.
  17. First off, I'm in. Definitely. I enjoy smoking a butt for pulled pork and I love eating it. I've been to the BBQ Battle before. Negatives: 1) It'll be too crowded for a group of us to hang together and enjoy each other's company. 2) Somehow being in the middle of a city out in the streets with the teeming masses just isn't a BBQ "environment". 3) You'll get to SEE plenty of BBQing going on, but the only thing you'll taste is the stuff they're selling at the stands (i.e. Red Hot & Blue). The GOOD stuff is for the judges. 4) This is one of those events where you have the honor and pleasure of standing in line to buy tickets to stand in another line to get beer. Positives: 1) Uhm... Anyway, I'm up for the Charles county trip or out to western VA. Or perhaps if someone is kind enough to host our own BBQ battle? Now THERE'S an idea...
  18. WARNING: This post contains an unpopular opinion. Il Radicchio on Capitol Hill. Went there on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago. One of us had a quite decent variation on an Osso Buco, and the others all did the pasta with a number of sauces. The marinara was quite dull, but the others, especially a rustic red sauce with lamb, were very good. At the price point, I'd definitely go back despite a bad experience at the bar mentioned in another thread.
  19. Sounds like Chicken Kadai. I love it. The trick is to not stop eating so the heat doesn't creep up on you.
  20. The staff is friendly too! They do various wine flights and serve up some good cheese plates.
  21. Anywhere that is heavily touristed tends to have a lot of awful restaurants. If you go to some of the more off the beaten path places in Old Town you tend to have better luck. Most of the restaurants on King down closest to the river are expensive and bland. Landini might be the exception. Whereas, I believe Chef Boyardee is the chef at Il Porto.
  22. Yes, I recall it and I have eaten there. A good friend of mine who is a lifelong Alexandria resident recalls the days when the NAACP used to picket the Dixie Pig because they would not serve blacks. Also, there used to be a Dixie Pig on Powhattan St. just north of Old Town. Now it is an Italian joint of some sort. This place has always puzzled me. It still has a sign saying "Dixie Pig", yet it has another sign with an Italian name on it. Also, it rarely seems to be open.
  23. James Joyce's famous book, Ulysses, follows one Leopold Bloom around Dublin for the entire day of June 16, 1904. The book itself can easily be read in one day. Try it!
  24. Had a similar thing happen this weekend at a bar in a certain Capitol Hill Italian restaurant held in low regard in eGulletland. We went up to the bar for an after dinner drink, oddly enough after dinner. I order mine, my sister orders something different for herself. My snifter is filled the right amount, my sister's is filled until the bottle runs out-- about a 1/2 a snifter. Conversation Me: do you have any more? Bartender: <shrug> Me: are you charging me for it? Bartender: uh huh Me: WTF? Bartender: Me: How bout you take this drink back, and she'll order something else? Bartender: okay. Sister: <scans the bottles behind bar and names a brand of cognac> Check came later for a drink that costs 4 times what she initially ordered.
  25. Did I look like this? He looks a lot like this...
