  1. Shameless promotion for my own brief review of PR: http://weballharder.com/2012/09/26/pouring-ribbons-cocktail-alchemy/ If Little Branch is the best place I've been to for perfect versions of the classics, PR is the place for modern inventiveness without going to all the molecular bollocks.
  2. Merci! The place is not even two blocks away, so just in a bunch of boxes I guess.
  3. The gear for my pop-up bar. 3 sets of Koriko shakers, 3 Oxo strainers (just got them, these things rock!!), 1 julep strainer (which I rarely use), 3 CK Leopold jiggers, one Oxo jigger, 2 Hoffman spoons (also awesome), 1 "RSVP Endurance Spoon", mon propre bois de lélé, knife, waiter's friend corkscrew thing, giant ice scoop, and citrus squeezer, which I'm sure I'm going to be sick of after the 72 lemons I need to juice tomorrow. Also in the back, a backup glass/metal shaker set and generic strainer, just in case. I feel this is about as minimalist and unfussy as I can get while still having rock-solid performance. Not shown: a couple muddlers (including one that looks like Cocobolo or something from La Bodeguita del Medio); my CK Japanese-style jiggers; tea strainer (which is semi useless); Lewis bag and mallet. En route: PUG! Muddler in cherry!
  4. You might want to PM Plantes Vertes and Adam George
  5. When will you be in DC next, Mitch - can I place an order with you?
  6. It would be better integrated, but it gives a big nutmeg whiff to your nose when it's grated on top, which is the point
  7. Yeah, they are very cool. They're the price of the 1oz/2oz + the 0.5/0.75 CK Japanese style jiggers I was using for home, but having all those measurements in one unit is pretty sweet, and the shape is great, the Japanese ones are sexy, but very narrow and fast pouring without a speed pourer gets messy
  8. Do you mean are they accurate? Or do you mean how is it marked? the 1 oz side has 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 marked on the inside, the 2 oz side has 1.5 marked on the inside
  9. I just received a few of Cocktail Kingdom's Leopold jiggers, and my God, on first impression, these are amazing. EXTREMELY thick, sturdy construction (like 1.5mm at least), 1 oz/2 oz, and marked for everything from 1/4 up to 1.5. Shaped to perfectly fit between the fingers, too. As stylish as the Japanese jiggers are, having an all-in-one of this quality is really something else.
  10. Wray & Nephew instead of a mere mortal rum, grate of nutmeg, which adds a lot, plus it's served on crushed ice, not up. The ingredients list may look similar but it is an entirely different drink
  11. After several nights off cocktails, chatting with KC's most prolific poster inspired: Jasper's Rum Punch, or what I like to call, the easiest, highest-payoff, most ass-kicking tiki-type drink out there. Made according to the Kaiser Penguin recipe, rediscovery attributed to Dr Cocktail Santana Abraxas, following the KC recipe to the letter except using the Bittermen's Xocomole instead of Adam E's. This is quite a nice drink, and the earthy chocolate flavor of the bitters really pops out, with the Bénédictine trailing out on the finish
  12. In Iraq, Minn al-Sima traditionally comes from Kurdistan. I don't know what Iraqi Kurds call it, though
  13. Welcome to a whole new world!
  14. Someone needs to make a bitter melon amaro...
  15. It is fun, but 1934 is the best. the 1951 one is good, and less of a hassle to make, but it lacks something
  16. Such might also be described as hogo, no?
  17. if WNOP is the Keith Moon of rums, then WT101 is the Lemmy Kilmister of Bourbon
  18. Call me polyamorumous. WN is a beast, but it's not for sophisticated Cuban cocktails. Hell, I hardly classify it as rum, more like, a deity of spirits.
  19. Ahh, best white rum EVER
  20. Re: Splificator (Wondrich), at least he doesn't leave it at "wine-glass", making us wonder wtf a wine-glass is.
  21. Surely I've stated and defended that before...
  22. Yeah, didn't have the passion fruit syrup 2 years ago I'm afraid!
  23. Sampler pack? Go on... Personally, I've been away from the vice closet for the better part of two weeks, so barely squeaked in an aviation yesterday. Otherwise, a beer here and there, some wonderful Vinoterra Kisi qvevri-aged unfiltered amber wine from Kakheti, Georgia, and last night, some Efe Rakı and Massaya 'araq with dinner. Word to the wise - 'araq and rakı are basically identical, except the former is 50-55% ABV to the latter's 40.
  24. Why have I never come across this? I have all the ingredients and it looks fantastic. Thanks for posting it! Señor, I have Tiki+, and love it. I presume you mean play around with Total Tiki? Anyway, a shattered screen ain't no thang!
  25. It's not so much the temperature or the size that bothers me, it's the wetness
