  1. And yes, you are very handsome too !!!
  2. Monica, do you have a trust fund that pays for your published books? How can you afford to send copies of books??? For free??? Really?? Does the publisher give you that many free copies? Are you independently wealthy? I am friends with several published writers. Mind you these are large US publishing houses, and they hardly get any copies to hand out. Wondering how the Canadian houses work. Do they give you many copies to share with admirers? PS: Am I not handsome enough to get a copy too? I pay for all the copies I had out. I buy them and send them out. SInce the money is going to a charity, handing out free copies does not work for me. I wish I had a trust fund. right now its just me. And I dont send out copies to just anyone... trust me on that. M
  3. PM me your address oh handsome one
  4. THe next one will be out in APril of 2004, It is titled Everything Indian and is a series cookbook for Admas Media. A LARGE number of egulleteers have help in the creation and testing of the the recipes... so a big thanks to all of them!!! It is a collection of 300 regional recipes with the focus being on the beginner!
  5. That's me, interesting.
  6. I have her book. It is interesting... 1000 recipes.. wow! Welcome to the forum jawbone! Looking forward to your posts!
  7. Do you have kids? I would love to shop every day, and used to before we had kids. Now I try to keep it to once a week because dragging toddlers to the store every day is torture. Hence the use of more convenience foods than I would care to admit to. Edit: emphasis mine. No kids. But my sister, who has two elementary age kids and works full time outside the home, shops several times weekly and prepares her food mostly from fresh sources. Does that count? We were raised by parents who required each of us to be responsible for keeping one common room clean (vacuum, clean the glass items, etc) from a very early age, like 5. We also learned to help with cooking very early. It made a big difference in household organization and parental sanity. Thanks for your comments! Your note brought back some wonderful memories of my childhood.. we too had specific chores we had to do. .. I think the only one I hated was doing the laundry!! Thanks
  8. hjshorter could not have said it better. I really strive to serve healthy meals to my family.. just because I take some shortcuts does not imply that I am cheating on taste or nutrition. I try to plan the week the best I can so as to minimize the run to the grocery store! I did breakdown and try PEAPOD..these guys who deliver grocercies to your home.. it worked fine.. but I missed going to the market and picking produce myself and generally wandering the isles (minus my little ones!)
  9. Do you have kids? I would love to shop every day, and used to before we had kids. Now I try to keep it to once a week because dragging toddlers to the store every day is torture. Hence the use of more convenience foods than I would care to admit to. Edit: emphasis mine. I agree with you. With a little one in tow its hard.. mine is almost four. My neighbour has 8.. wonder how she does it.
  10. I agree about the other chefs being quite.. My aim with the article was to talk about cooking smart and not necessarily slaving over a hot stove all day to make a meal.. of course not sacrificing on taste.. if it does not taste good.. it has no place on my table What do you do to cook smart?
  11. What would your choices be? Come on.... one little secret?
  12. The person to send it to I believe is Sam Sifton
  13. I do use jerk seasoning from a jar.. same as you, Beans, I have tried to make it before and it does very similar. I will have to try the brand you mentioned. I do roast my own peppers though!! Yes,I buy puff pastry... I wonder if any of our chefs do that?
  14. Lady T... welcome to the club
  15. We are cooking it tonite. Here is the marinade I will use -- will let you know how it turns out tomorrow -- -- tomato puree, red chili oil, honey, tamarind extract, minced garlic , grated ginger and a bit of cornstarch. Keeping my fingers crossed!
  16. I am looking for a smilie that looks like a "hang my head in shame" -- cannot find it.. perhaps someone can create it as my avtar!!
  17. Frozen Brocolli.. yes I knew that would raise a few eyebrows. Well it really depends what you are using it for. I use the tiny frozen ones as garnishes for a mixed nuts pulao (rice dish) that I make. I also use it for a mixed vegetable bake... I would not use it for many other recipes... for instance... you would need fresh broc to make a deepfried spiced broc dish I make.
  18. "In any case, do what suits your lifestyle. It's not worth it to get so worked up about it. Get over yourself." LOVE IT!! Thanks Nerissa
  19. I had four emails this morning telling me that the piece should have been titled "What would your Mother-inlaw say"!!! I do use a lot of instant stuff and a lot of fresh stuff.. the key I guess is knowing when to use what -- for some of the recipes the difference is way to much
  20. A really bad cup of coffee :-(
  21. Yes, it is whole. I am quite excited about this. Generally I get fillets.
  22. They are quite thick.
  23. Hi all, I have two gorgeous red snappers, a brand new gas grill and a lot of motivation! Any recipe suggestions?
