  1. Have't tried that rum yet but I do recommend Koko Kanu from Jamaica. It's 37.5% alc (75 proof) and sold mainly in England. It's based on the Wray and Nephew Coconut Rum recipe thats popular in the more "touristy" parts of Jamaica. That particular rum is 43% alc (86 proof). Most of the good cocktail bar tenders over here in the UK use Koko Kanu in their drinks, as oppose to Malibu, which is a liqueur not a rum.
  2. Apparently they have re blended it. You're right the previous 8 year old had quite a few problems. Especially in the taste department. (sorry Appleton )
  3. A few months ago i mentioned that Appleton were releasing a new 8 year old reserve. I finally got a bottle ( same shape as the VX, Extra and 21yr old ) All I can say is Hmmmmm! Very delicate on the palate with a fruity nose. A work of art. Not as woody as the Extra (12yr old) and not as bitting as the VX (5-10yr old). But definately one for the pot-stilled, aged rums, connoisseurs. The only problem is that it goes down too well. I've finished half my sample bottle already !!! Has anyone else tried the Appleton 8 year old yet?
  4. The Angostura 1824 isn.t a bad rum. I definately agree with Ed that it has a very "spice induced finish", which is probably due to some sort of fruit/spice added to the barrels while aging. 7 out of 10 for taste. 8 out of 10 for packaging.
  5. Appleton Extra (12-18yrs) Ron Zacapa Centenario Neissons 1991 vintage El Dorado 15yrs Koko Kanu Coconut rum (hey sue me )
  6. I agree with Jason. The 7 year old seems to be their best product. Well balanced. Caramel finish (if that's your taste) with a hint of natural spices.
  7. Hi gavin . My personal web page is being constructed at the moment. The bar is at 18 Stoke Newington Church Street, London N16. I'm actually leaving there soon to set up another Rum Bar/restaurant in Camden Town. I'll keep you posted.
  8. Hi Martin. I'm from London but I do a lot of work in the Caribbean for a Rum company. Welcome to the forum
  9. Welcome to the forum. I ahve loads of rum drinking friends in italy. Where's your bar ?
  10. Hey Mike good luck on your travel to London. I've set up a rum bar in the north side of London (Stoke Newington N16). We've got about 105 different rums from around the world. So if want to check London's hottest rum bar then drop me an e-mail.
  11. It's funny you should mention the Blanc for a ti punch as I made a couple this evening for some of my customers. As for the XO, I couldn't agree more...
  12. Has anyone in the forum tasted rums from the Neisson Distillery in Martinique ? I've just got the XO 1988 vintage & the 1991 vintage. I'd love to hear your opinions. I personally thought that they were some of the finest rums (rhums) that I've ever tasted. The Saint Ettienne Gold Aged, from the same island, is not that bad either. In 2 days ,at my bar in London, I have already converted 20 Cognac drinkers on to these 3 products already.
  13. My favourite sipping rums are Appleton Extra Jamaica El Dorado 15 yr old Guyana Flor de Cana 7yr old Nicaragua Ron Zacapa Guatemala Appleton 250th Ann Jamaica There are a few others but these are the most recent and regular that I drink.
  14. True. It can be a bit pricey but I have it on good authority that Appleton have struck a deal with Jack Daniels, which will involve the using of JD's barrels for ageing and JD's distribution avenues in the States. This should bring the price down slightly .Watch this space.
  15. if you like smooth darker rums then why not try The Appleton 21 year old. A little less intense than the 12 yr old. The bouquet is a sultry mix of oranges, musk, cocoa and vanilla. Or try the El Dorado 15 year old. A demerara rum with a delicately smooth finish. Technically both rums are gold but have become dark with age as oppose to caramel.
  16. I was with Joy Spense, Master blender for Appleton rums , recently and she told me that her creation, the 250th, actually had rums which exceeded 50 years. There will also be a new 8 year old and a limited editon 50 year old rum being released this year .
  17. Matusalem rum bottled in lake Alfred, Florida & the Bahamas.
  18. Appleton 250th Anniversary is a hand blended rum with the youngest rum being 25 years old and the oldest 5 0 years old. In England it retails for about £100 .
