I bet that looks purty next to your gas grill. ← ooooo. SNAP!!!

i've noticed 15% practically across the board.

frankly i'd be shocked to hear if anyone is shocked at all. i figured it was common knowledge that the teams were given at least some sort of idea of what the ingredient must be. common sense? whether it's 2 or 5, i really don't know the details of the quoted passages, but i really don't consider it "another food network gimmick."

did they mention the clog to the head?

now that i think about it i *was* there the other night.

well i'm not about to start off with anything other than "can we see the chinese menu" and otherwise acting as my normal polite and enthusiastic self. if they are unwilling or unable to step up to the plate then they'll lose my business and my postive references. if you're defending a waiter's stubborn, unacceptable, and ultimately offensive behavior by suggesting that it's ok to act that way, or even understandable to act that way, if he assumes the customer is a "complete chinese food neophyte", well then i just don't know what to say other than China 46 will continue to get my business and references. not to mention that i don't know many complete neophytes who would ask for the chinese menu and then go on to order as i did. beside the point, of course. blame it on culture, blame it on a bad day, but ultimately you're just making excuses for the place.

on one of my visits to Hunan Cottage, the waiter out-and-out refused to serve me what i ordered. telling me that i wouldn't like it and basically putting up a fight about it. well i got my way and whatever it was was very good. that kinda put me off to this place. i'll go to China 46, where you get treated with respect by people who seem geniunely pleased that you enjoy what their restaurant has to offer.

www.lejardinnj.com the place looks pretty good. looking forward to trying it before the summer ends.

no. that's why you bring it in a flask. edit: cross-posted with rosie, lest anyone think i stole her idea of using the winky thing.

why? good food. good view. and entertainment ta'boot. sounds like my kind of place. i've always wondered about this place. glad to hear the food is good. anyone know if they have a website?

if Chipotle would open a restaurant in NJ it would (or by all rights should) put all of these places out of business.
-
reinholdt, what other restaurants do you appreciate? that would help to form a baseline for your opinion on this particular place. for me. thanks.

because they don't have time to shop and cook because they're cramming for a final? because they can? because the monthly check they get from their uncle/mom/dad/sister to help them eat and have somewhat of an interesting experience while at college comes in the mail the next day? because it's only 7 dollars? i just don't see that question as relevant. and given the factual explanations offered by estufarian and jvictor it would seem that the entire thread and idea is irrelevant given the article in question. a terrible article in my estimation. and one that feeds peoples' needs to get up in arms about nothing. ← well, obviously he couldn't because it put his bank account into a negative balance. ← "couldn't," or "shouldn't." i'm confused by what you're suggesting. it seemed that in your first post you were passing judgment as to whether or not a person should order take-out if he/she has "7 dollars to their name." i very often go into "negative balance" on my checking account. it doesn't stop me from using my ATM card, given i know how dynamic my account is. i'd sure hope strangers wouldn't pass judgment on that. maybe they would, though.

paul, i guess you'd have to define "significant amount of business" to sate my curiosity. are 30 high-rollers a month (2 or 3 large special dinners, let's say) enough to sustain that kind of inventory? and then the other question of course is "how special can that special dinner be?", considering the restaurant we're dealing with.

yeah, the good old days, when the antelope ran free through perpetually sunny meadows, as did expression. i have to wonder who is ordering wines over the 40/50/60 dollar price-point at P&O? surely they sit on most of their inventory. how is it (the collection/program) even sustainable at this point? to qualify my above comment on finding the food somewhat good, i should say that i clearly ordered well. i was referring to soft shell crab in butter and crispy duck, presumably cooked for hours on end. not much to go wrong here. i've not returned since that meal, and have never actually felt the need to return. sometimes it's a deterrent knowing that you'll have to put so much effort into making sure you order well. i'd just as soon grab a dry-aged piece of meat at Whole Foods, stop at a local wine store and get some advice on an interesting, albeit perhaps younger, burgundy in the 60 dollar price range, and guarantee that i'm eating and drinking well. for a stop pre/post game with the boys, however, well is suppose P&O serves some sort of purpose there. good thing i don't like sports.

"busy"?!?! people are standing in line for that crap. although in looking at the old thread i see that i actually appreciated some of the food there. perhaps my expectations were so low that anything decent seemed positive. and their wine glasses suck, so why bother.

my take: mediocre sides the meat (strip and ribeye) was tender and juicy with, of course, no real minerally or beefy flavor. not much different than the prime steak i've had at Outback (once). not much different than Mignon's wet-aged steak. perhaps even not quite as good. sevice and staff was pleasant and efficient wine-by-the-glass program is a big plus they should reconfigure the windows so you can actually see the city when seated steaks were about 32 bucks, which isn't so horrible. i'd rather spend slightly more at luger's or wolfgang's or slightly less at a butcher selling dry-aged steak. i just can't get jazzed about wet-aged steak. nice restrooms. the soap had a hint of rosemary. yummy. the 3 dollar valet parking should be comp'd if you're eating at the restaurant. although, the server will hand in the ticket for you while you settle up so your sled is awaiting you upon exit. i should have bought a couple of acres of that barren wasteland of a waterfront that was edgewater 10 years ago. i'd return on someone else's dime and if i couldn't influence the choice of venue. save your nickels for someplace else.

i'm so glad you stopped in rosie! i had an excellent meal at Devi recently. tasting menu paired with wines. suvir, as always, was a gracious and brilliant host. hemant was not in the house, but the kitchen was obviously performing at a very acceptable level. never a bad meal at devi. interesting mix of indian and non-indian customers. interesting because i think that's a good thing.
-
wet. save your nickels.
-
i find nothing on the internet suggesting that these steaks are dry (rather than wet) aged. anyone know? i can't see making a special trip (which i was considering) if they're serving wet-aged steak. i'll just go to Mignon to BYO. Rosie, do you have the scoop?

the Bergen Mall.

it seems to me that he, for the most part, focused on places that he knew growing up. perhaps in a new 22-day documentary he can touch on the rest of the towns in NJ. until then, though, this one was a lot of fun.

with any luck. you might recall that last time that didn't work out so hot.
