the menu is much more expansive than the website suggests. many specials are written on the black board. and there are some good wine values as well. edit: i'm trying to picture how that delete button would work. it would certainly make the user statistics interesting: username: tommy total posts: 952 total deleted posts: 923

my thought process gets more and more obtuse as the clock ticks past midnight. what i meant was: rosa mexicano is one of my favorites. it has been on the east side on 1st and 58th or so for years. a couple of years ago, they opened another on the west side. it is a horrid place. the disparity btwn the two is mind boggling.

seems like he was on twice then. hopefully he'll clear that up so i don't think i'm crazy.

i saw that fat bastard on pbs years ago. in fact, that was when i realized that he was someone "important", as i had been reading his website for a few months prior (way before his proper domain of "fat-guy.com"). steven's thoughts on March (in NYC) sent me there for the first time, and it became a favorite of mine. when i saw him on PBS soon after that, i pointed at the tv and stomped my feet, yelling to mrs. tommy that "the fat guy is on tv!" she was unfazed. she just didn't "get it", as they say. was this a repeat of that show, or perhaps a new one? xo

"special"? take a 10 block cab ride to jean georges. "interesting and fun?", try this place (click me) should i be proud that i'm the only egulleteer that has been here over and over and enjoy it massive? perhaps. should i stop telling you tools about it so i's can keep it to myself? we see. don't be stupid all of your life people. listen to tommy every now and again. (glenn, did i make a ninny out of myself just then?)

as long as you didn't got to rosa mexicano, i'll be happy. did you get a chance to rent that movie that came out about 3 yrs ago? it's called "when really good east side restaurants go horribly effing wrong near lincoln center", or something like that.

thanks for reporting back. i haven't been to march in probably 2 years and you've reminded me to return.

i was only there once. i would like to try the food encumbered by the gruff server. maybe i'll give it another shot.

we parallel jim and his missus a bit. mrs. tommy does a great sauce w/ meatballs that is just out of this world. she likes the slow-cooking items. that leaves me to cook the rest of the time, which is pretty much all of the time. and when i had mrs. tommy prep some veggies for stirfry the other night, i found myself saying to her "you cut the scallion awfully small, didn't you?" not that it mattered one bit. i should have just kept my mouth shut. no wonder i don't often get help!

not to jump on someone else's train, but i didn't get prune either. the place was cramped and not particularly interesting looking, the service was gruff and didn't seem particulary interested or enlightened, and the food was just ok. a far cry and actually exactly the opposite from what would seem to be its obvious competition, the tasting room a few doors down. maybe they had an off night?

i have family who live in bethlehem (not proper, but in the burbs of bethlehem, like, north of 22 close to allentown), and we often visit. i'm always trying to figure out where to eat. are there any reasonbale places out there? i found one place called the hanoverville road house, which is decent enough, but we'd like some more options. any help would be appreciated!

oh priscilla wasn't referring to you silly. it was that damned adam balic who was throwing around absolutes as if they were chunks of cheese at a tuscan dinner. ooh, bad analogy. sorry!

i swear that this site has more calories than a bakery.

*!@$% YOU. stay in freakin ireland, or whatever part of great britian you are. :wow:

saying it loudly doesn't make it true. do you think a sprinkle of percorino romano (sp?!?!??) would mask the flavor of an oily piece of mackerel?
-
that was meant to be a humorous gesture i'm guessing? when we first started dating, i presented mrs. tommy with a can of SPAM one evening. i couldn't find anything else btwn my apartment and hers. it's the thought that counts. :wow:

i was kidding about the margarine. i refuse to buy into a blanket statement like "cheese covers over the tastes of seafood". hogwash i say.

the consensus here seems to be that this is some sort of personality flaw. i submit that some people just don't think in those terms. their minds aren't aligned like ours when it comes to food and entertaining. i'm willing to bet that a vast majority of us hold the act of "breaking bread" in high regard. i'm also willing to bet that a vast majority of the rest of the people on the planet don't look at sharing a meal with other people as such a sacred and wonderufl act. with any luck, plotnicki will come around, restate the above in 2100 words or more, and we can call it a day.

behold, the power of the internet. click me.

how about margarine?

you can't make people do things they don't want to do. and if your bf doesn't like cooking, i wouldn't want to be eating his food. luckily for some, we enjoy cooking. like you do. if i didn't, i can't imagine that i could put up with the time and effort that i put into it every week. to me, it's a hobby and a passion. i'd rather cook than clean, that's for sure! does your bf at least clean up? if so, i think you've struck a healthy balance.

the menu is a list of probably 12 items or so. all complete units in and of themselves. they are listed, generally speaking, from lighter fare to heavier fare, so you have an idea of what type of dish it might be. so the first few dishes on the menu might be salads, then moving through scallaps maybe, up through possibly duck or something obviously more substantial. enen the more substantial dishes aren't huge, so you will most likely have the chance to order 4 or 5 dishes or so... unless my memory is totally shot. and as mogsob suggests, pairing with wines is fun, and generally easier, considering you'll have several courses. the tasting room in NYC has a menu set up the same way, although each of their selections comes in a small or large size. at march, each selection is the size that it is. now that you're *completely* confused.

jaybee, what was the restaurant? it seems that everyone except for me had this dish! actually, i went to a little italian place and had some pasta with a meat sauce. so it was at least a *little* close to what i was craving. glad everyone enjoyed dinner. we should probably thank that author, robin, for reminding us of the beauty in the simplicity of this dish. yummy.

as my father always told guests: "ring the doorbell with your elbows". this was a humorous, but effective way of getting some less-than-clued-in people to bring something when invited to our house. actually, it was my friend's dad who said that. but it sounds better if i say it was mine.

looks like the pasta police arrived. good thing i went out tonite and didn't ruin a perfectly good pasta dish with cheese. thanks to all for your comments and ideas. i'll be jumping on this project within the next few days, especially if this rain in NYC keeps up.
