  1. jeesh wilfrid, i found myself privately messengering basildog to ask what robin byrd was! i still have no idea. but i'm flattered.
  2. did you try that "wondee's"? is there a roosevelt hotel on 9th? i know there is one on 45th and mad.
  3. edit: ironically, my "me too" post came through twice. oh the embarrassment.
  4. i generally stay away from "me too" posts, but... right after i got my new all-clads, i started doing my famous "roasting in the pan and then making the sauce on the stove-top trick". of course, when i grabbed the handle of the (heavy) pan once it was on the stove, i received a very interesting blister about 4 inches long across my hand. looked like, well, you know. at the time, i was also busy not doing very well in a drumming gig, and subsequently had a very painful set the next night.
  5. nope. must be a different one. i was there about 2 days ago. east side of the street, 1/2 block up from the beekman towers. arun's in chicago, i thought, was very good. a wonderful experience, although i can't speak to the authenticity. however, mrs. tommy returned sans me recently, and said that it had taken a turn for the worse. they had changed the menu, if i recall correctly, moving away from your normal a la carte into something else. yes, the details are foggy. i'll have to ask her. and the ride to arun's is never very much fun, is it. edit: info on the thai place from yahoo yellow pages: Bangkok Grand Palace Rstrnt 882 1st Ave, New York, NY 10022 (212) 980-8834
  6. robert, what are your thoughts on the thai place on 1st btwn 49/50 (or is it 48/49?).
  7. i'm pretty sure she doesn't want it. could we dump it on andy lynes? i'm sure some of his boys (and girls) would have a field day with it.
  8. Who made you the reigning deity on what is an interesting thread and what is not?
  9. it is clear to me that you have no idea what you're talking about.

oh. you can spend as much or as little as you want methinks. i believe we chose 125 when we were there, and it was pretty incredible.

Omakase. what do you mean by "credit statements"? you can have good sushi at any number of places. besides, Omakase will most likely include sushi. or at least it did when i was there.
  12. what apps do they do so well? give me wondee's duck salad, a bowl of tom yum, and moo ping, and i'm happier than a pig in shit. i can't bring myself to go back to bangkok!
  13. why do you think that's "double"? although, 21 is a funny number. not funny "ha-ha", but funny strange. did you get the place all picked and sorted yet?
  14. i remember a time at ruby foo's in NYC, where the tables are painfully close... i was with a female friend of mine, and we were going on and on, being our boisterous loud selves. the couple next to us were *extremely* quiet. i mean, they didn't say a peep for the first 15 minutes they were sat there. eventually, we engaged them, and they admitted that they had been sitting there the whole time being entertained by our conversation. they made no apologizies for their eavesdropping! they said we were "like something out of Seinfeld". but they were from, like, the midwest or something. priscilla, rereading this thread i see that you thought my "eavesdropping" comment as directed towards you. it was actually directed towards BLH, as he brought it up. feel free to discuss anything you'd like. no need to clear with me anymore.
  15. LOL! classic. i don't know if this is appropriate, or even entertaining, but last summer we were at a beach and had 2 of those outdoor grills fired up, each with a 3 lb beautifully marinated pork loin. we were all very pleased with ourselves until a seagull came down a grabbed a pork loin with its beak. it got it about 3 feet from the grill before it realized that it wasn't gaining an altitude. i was quite impressed with the strength and the b*lls that that bird had. yes, we rinsed off the sand and put it back on, this time guarding it veeeeery closely.
  16. no silly. i'm just saying that the incident wasn't an "eavesdropping" incident as much as an "over-hearing" incident. the distinction is probably important to the discussion.
  17. i don't think this thread is about "eavesdropping", per se.
  18. i mention "kennedy" only because one of them beat some girl to death with a golf club. any wife-feeling-up would certainly be handled by yours truly, as BLH so graciously pointed out.
  19. you must have amazing self-control. you can't see how sometimes you can't help but hear?
  20. again with the agressiveness.
  21. cleary you are all silly b*stards even when i've not had a few (too many). cleary. gavin, i'm guessing that they could easily be made into bongs.
  22. no one asked. the most boring part of this, besides the apparent refusal of the participants in the discussion to accept or even acknowledge various points that were presented, is the aggressiveness of some of the posts.
  23. you know what they say: it's not a party until the cops and a kennedy show up.
  24. did anyone ever try to cool down overheated oil by adding water? i did.
