  1. i didn't think the kung pao chicken was all that spicy. although it came after the dan-dan and a few spicy dishes. my meal there the other night was outstanding. the people i brought thought it was awesome as well. this place is way better than the one on 2nd and 50-whatever.
  2. elyse has yet to really specify what she means. but questions are OK too, right?
  3. you sorta respect BK but you think Emeril Lagasse is a hack.
  4. i just tried this after 8 months. worked pretty damned good. nice job al...errr, dente.
  5. i found myself in what i assume is saddle brook, right west of 17. i saw a thai restaurant there. i have no idea what it's called or how long it's been there. i think if you are on essex street, heading west, it's on the right right after you cross over 17. i was on a bus, though, and pretty much totally lost. any ideas?
  6. holy cute waitress batman!
  7. fg, i'm going to BJ's Madhouse tomorrow morn (friday). i figured i'll get everything. but now i'm thinking that i don't know what everything is. perhaps a list is in order: plastic utensils: knives/forks/spoons. do we need big plastic serving spoons?? plates cups (i'm planning on the regular old 16 oz or so red plastic cups. do we need any other kind?) if wine is making an appearance, i'd much prefer to get some small clear cocktail type cups as well. i suppose i will just in case unless someone is bringing wine. napkins paper towels garbage bags we'll need a corkscrew/bottle opener. or several. i'm assuming some might bring some? i have a bottle opener tied to my cooler as all no-nonsense hardcore alkies do, but no corkscrew. i realize some are bringing tables. my concern is that there will be a *lot* of dishes, which take up a lot of tables. i can't bring my 6 ft banquet tables, as i don't feel comfortable driving with them. but i have a crappy 3x3 plastic table i'll bring. perhaps 2 if i can dig them up. i'm flaking right now, and i know i missed stuff. but that's what this little discussion is all about. and forgive me if we already talked about it, but i'm a simple-minded fellow and need a list in one spot.
  8. what the fuck does that supposed to mean.
  9. i see that egullet will be offline this weekend for the upgrade. that means that we need all our ducks in a row by friday i'd guess.
  10. i figure the seafood festival will be a good excuse to go down and piss off to the tiki bar for a few hours on a saturday afternoon. doesn't sound like it's all that good, though, does it. that's a shame. the tube race is sunday though, yeah? i recall that being a lot of fun. of course, i was about 8, but it seemed like the adults were having a blast.
  11. Damn! and I missed it! I saw Tommy's post before he deleted it. If you are interested PM me and I will send it to you GAH!
  12. well, i'm going to bring as much as i think will be enough, plus a little more. however, if people want to grab that package of cups or plates from their garage before heading out, we can absolutely ensure that we'll be OK. i think i need to get over to BJ's warehouse soon.
  13. i think a lot of restaurants in NYC have limited hours (and hours without real mass appeal) when participating in the same types of promotions.
  14. no, elyse, you didn't say that. you said: and as your response to both of those posts. one might reasonably assume that you were being defensive, and, by extension, perhaps felt "attacked". is there another word i should have used?
  15. elyse, i don't think scrumdilly is attacking you in any way. he/she took the time to expound on the initial point.
  16. here's a nice and concise history.
  17. doesn't work that way kid. sorry. tommy, that is rediculous. It works that way with other people, and if someone wants to jump in, so be it, but the person being quoted is still the person being asked. i wasn't debating that you "asked" the other poster. i'm merely saying that if you don't want anyone else to be a part of the conversation, PM that person for your answer. otherwise, others might jump in because they want to know the answer, or because they feel it's an interesting discussion.
  18. the only thing i know about the BMT is that it's an italian-type sandwich at Subway. presumably named after this artifact of ancient history.
  19. sounds like a great deal Katie. i'd sure go if i wasn't 2 hours away.
  20. good thing they recycled it. i missed it the first time. and i didn't know Pearson had an interest in a restaurant in NYC, aside from selling his stuff pre-cooked to the Rodeo Bar.
  21. thanks for that link. they do have a pretty interesting menu. i probably wouldn't have considered trying it without seeing that menu.
  22. jesus dude, you're supposed to stock up on emergency supplies!?!!!!!! good luck though.
  23. you have to use the "quote" button. even then, you can only really do it for one passage. other than that, you're on your own. i don't even think you can hardcode the stuff in and have it look right. i seem to remember a bit in the "Site Tips" section from a while ago where we talked about this. perhaps the upgrade, which is on its way, will help this.
  24. edit: i can't believe i posted something so dumb. probably doesn't come as a surprise to everyone else though.
  25. anyone going? anyone been? this saturday methinks. sunday is the annual tube race.
