  1. like an italian egg hero almost, if i'm not mistaken. generally scrambled. there was (is?) a place in NJ that served only egg sandwiches (i don't remember if they had peppers though). i think it opened at 9 pm, catering to the post-pub crowd.
  2. ok. on your mark...get set...
  3. evidence of what? sorry to split hairs here, but if all of the other 3000 threads were filled with snobbery (and of course i don't think they are), then your exception isn't evidence of anything except that there's one thread not filled with snobbery. edit: ok, 4 threads, or how every many burger clubs there are.
  4. one exception doesn't prove anything.
  5. does your recipe call for powdered galangal? i've not heard of that, although i've been known to add ginger to mine. i might suggest leaving it out if you're unsure.
  6. does anyone know anything about the new place on 14th right off of bloomfield (across from the Puerto Spain parking lot)? i drove past it the other day. looks like they ripped out that crappy bar that was there, along with whatever business was next to it to make a relatively big room.
  7. ham, provolone, hot ham cappicola, l/t/o, o/v, s/p/oregano. oh, and it's a "sub" in NJ. sometimes a "hero".
  8. low carb is low carb. there are reasons to go on a low carb diet other than losing weight. good for BK.
  9. info here. i've lived in NJ all of my life, and i don't recall ever seeing a blueberry. i've seen a lot of corn. is corn an official anything of NJ?
  10. jon, you seem to think that people are blaming egullet, or the people who are on the admin side. i don't think that's the case. to me, many posts in this thread have been an observation of a general attitude on the site.
  11. i don't know that many people think it's getting worse. i do think that these things are cyclical, and i'm pretty sure a few share the opinion that we're in a pretty annoying part of the cycle right now. and i suppose that's why this thread is here. dismissing it does nothing. bringing it out into the open might do something.
  12. just because it's the exception doesn't mean it's not noticed. and i don't think anyone has suggested it's the rule. if they have, then i'll say, again, that these things tend to stick out more.
  13. if you spend a lot of money, you're well-informed. i just learned that today.
  14. the SB was surprisingly inoffensive. a bit of acidity. no finish to speak of. did i detect a note of banana? i'm probably nuts. didn't even stand up well to non-spicy sushi. a quaffing wine for sure. perhaps good for a "two buck chuck" party, just for the novelty. otherwise, hardly worth the calories or liver damage. it's "3 buck chuck" in NJ. looking forward to the reds.
  15. it occurs to me that sometimes people don't know how they're coming off. i think a lot of the snobbishness and the other things discussed on this thread are really nothing more than people not understanding how they come off. i'm sure we could find a few examples in this very thread illustrating that point.
  16. i'm fairly certain that this isn't some sort of blanket statement about all, or even most people from NY. yes, of this i'm fairly certain.
  17. i see we agree.
  18. i'm with busboy. although we all clearly have a different set of posts that we read, and within them we're most likely involved in different conversations, any problems almost always occur in dicussions that aren't directly related to food. the how-to-live-your-life discussions have most likely turned more than a few off of egullet. it's a shame that people can't understand that not everybody lives by their rules, has the same set of values, or worships the same god.
  19. do you think the preachers are taking note? I dunno. why do you think threads like this are salutary?
  20. do you think the preachers are taking note?
  21. unforunately, passion sometimes turns into preaching. at least that's the way it can come across.
  22. so i can expect bracing acidity and bright grapefruit and honey flavors?
  23. for real? that's my biggest complaint with cheap wines. maybe i'll try to get my hands on this stuff to give it a shot.
  24. i just bought that delonghi on impulse and without any research. i get the feeling it's not highly regarded, though.
  25. well, i tried this place again for take-out. i gotta hand it to them: the food is ready in about 7 minutes. this time around, the friend spring rolls were just OK. as rachel mentioned, i don't know if there's much if any meat in these things. but they're decent enough when you have the craving. the fried beef with onion was OK, but lacked onions. there were about 3 slices. about 5 times as many would have made the dish twice as good. the chicken curry was dry-ish. the portions are small, and the prices are not. as much as i'd like to see a vietnamese restaurant in that area succeed, i'd like even more to see a *good* vietnamese restaurant in that area. still waiting...
