  1. My top choice would be Amada, I know it isn't the top of the top but it is really good and in my opinion really fun.
  2. Oh my gosh Fellow Yorkers?? admittedly I grew up in cherry hill but i spent the forst 9 years in York, PA. I go back every year for the fair which coincides nicely with my birthday and We go at Christmas to the Yorktowne, my parents were married there. I can't wait to try this burrito, where is it in realation to the fairgrounds??

  5. I guess the deal is up there that you go for the scenery, the shops and the outdoors, not the food. Although the new place, 90 Main has piqued my interest--- it's very stylish and I wonder if it is any good??
  6. sunday brunch at Lacroix for penn grad, which used to be the bane of my existance, is a nice option if you wanted to do a causal meal the night of the graduation, and a big fancy get togeher the next day. It's a beautiful room with an elegant buffet with enough variety for a group.

  8. I forgot to add-- the couple we met at breakfast, did go to the Inn at Phillips mill, said it was sooo romantic and reommended the lamb---- funny. We were planning a trip there in the fall, what are the prices like?
  9. What a nice surprise to find this thread having just returned from the most romantic weekend spent in Lumberville, PA just a bit north of New Hope on River Road. We checked into the 1740 house at about 2 15, and spent the afternoon in hotel provided bathrobes lounging in our room that had a patio directly on the canal and the river. I have never stayed at a place so close to the water. My parent's freinds, who own and operate the lexington house, said that the 1740 house was a coorporate run establishment, and would not have the same B&B feeling as another place, and that was true but for a younger couple, we really enjoyed the privacy, the moderness of the room and the river view was totally worth it. We were planning on dinner at the Cuttaloosa Inn, but heard from some local shopkeepers that it was overpriced and not very tasty, so we decided to dine at the Black Bass Hotel, jsut down the road. I have never had more fun at a dinner than at the Black Bass. We started with a nicely priced bottle of champagne, it was my boyfreinds birthday, and then had a delicious shrimp bisque and a seared scallops with tasso and fava bean cream, soo delicious. The scallops were perfect and the bisque was a nice european style soup, thin and flavorful. Then I had the beef Wellington, old school I know but i ordered it medium rare, and it was exactly that which I would think is hard to do with the baking of the pastry. Schmoopie had the "charleston meeting street crab"which had been on the menu for 50 years, basically a gratin of crab in a mornay sauce with sherry, delicious. We had no room for dessert, but moved in to the bar for more wine and the most lovely piano player who sang our requests. The Black Bass is all original, built in 1740, and is haunted! Also they have the most facinating collection of British memorabilia, which I ate up being british in nationality. I cannot stree enough how much fun was had, our waitress was a doll and the food was very good, they stuck with standards on thier menu but perfected them. i recommend this to anyone.
  10. Hi Having visited the kitchen bu never having eaten there, i know a little about your question. No priest, no incense but the music in the kitchen is those gregorian chants. I am sure you are in for one of the greastest meals of your life. I was freinds with two of the sous chefs there, and they make by far some of the best food in the US. I also met Chef Patrick O"connell, great guy, great chef. Please report back on how it was.

    Crab Cakes

    I have 2 methods, one using egg, breadcrums, and heavy cream. The second is my personal way, with miracle whip, a little yello mustard, ritz cracker crumbs and red pepper. I grew up about a half hour north of Baltimore---

  13. hmm interesting challenge, Vietnam is definitely going to win. I have eaten at both restaurants. I tried the palace when I couldn't get into Vietnam. I am holding strong with Vietnam as the top pick
  14. I recommed Pikayo in the El San Juan, I believe that is the name. Had a wonderful feat there in a cool and sexy looking space with great cocktails, Plus if you haven't had a drink in the lobby of the El San Juan, you need to before you die. It is the most fabulous place on earth.

  16. Somehow I don't think that etymology is a big deal at the pork shack, and that's the name of the steak. try one and you might forget the latin roots of the word too.
  17. after living in Chur, Switzerland studying abroad, I went to Zurish many many times and remember a great fondue place in the Hotel Adler, a wonderful restaurant at the Zum Storchen where i fell in love with Zurich style veal and Rosti and numberous delicacies along the banhofstrasse. Please let me know if anyone can refresh my memories of Zurich and the graubunden Canton?
  18. it's actually very simple, just your bruchetta topping dumped on a cheesesteak with sharp provolone. The bruchetta mix is mixed in the steak so it gets pretty hot and is sooo good. I never knew about it but my father loves them, also don't try to eat the whole thing! thanks for the welcome, happy to be here
  19. ok well here goes a response form your average joe pa-- I love the chariman's selaction program. I am a young woman, obviously not in a high income bracket, but who knows enough about wine to know that to learn about wine you need to drink wine. The chairman's selections allow me to pick up a few bottles of some unfamiliar varietals and taste them at home. Through the chariman's selections i have become a big fan of reisling, sauvignon blanc, and syrah. My freinds are still drinking the magnums of pinot grigio and wite zinfandel for the same price. I have a desire to learn more about wine, and trips to the state store allow me to do so by the information posted around the chariman's selections. Also, what could be a nicer compliment to our byob scene then resonably priced and interesting wines?
  20. i can't wait to try this place, I want a day off mid-week so I can go in the afternoon, the menu is all day correct? Also does anyone know if the sat lunch is fun? and if they have a good selection of beers?
  21. had lunch with my father and friends at Johns Roast Pork today, He convinced me to try a bruchetta cheesesteak with sharp porvolone Can I hear a delicious? I was against it, since i am a big pork fan, but wow. try it if you are in the area, also snyder avenue is once again open after an eternity of being worked on, should be easier to get to. oink oink

I had a friend who lived in Baltimore, and we used to go to the Hollins Market and get the best thick cut bacon, As I recall, Baltimore has a lot of small farmer-type markets in the different neighborhoods. Also, we used to go to Coopers in Fells Point for dinner, crab cakes of course and for breakfast--- Zeus"in Fells Point as well Baltimore was so much fun-- are those places still around??
  23. guys-- that's cause primo's uses the sarcone's roll! at least that's what I've been told. Sarones is all about bread, I went there on Sun, bought bread and made my boyfreind a hoagie to take to lunch-- he ate the whole thing. Also I have had the pizza in Philly, but I am excited to try it in the Hill
  24. it is funny how that works--- being a former restaurant girl who lived for monday and tuesday's off, I have now joined the man in the grey flannel suit and have off on the weekends. I guess I am still not used to the Sat night dinners.......
  25. Dimitris-- the original, there's something about being all cramped in there but still in your own little world. Also its dark which makes everyone look sexy.
