  1. we're considering serving these for a first cocktail sort of thing before our winter wedding....as a guess, how many do you think this size batch would serve? thanks!
  2. Anyone have any great ideas for Sun Valley eateries? (hoping this will do better than the last person who tried ; )
  3. I had an oustanding burger at the ale house/brewery in Breckenridge over Thanksgiving last year. Seriously great burger.
  4. I cannot!!! believe its been 5 years. I remember I had a friend who lived a block away and she was in LOVE with James so we'd go in together so she could fawn. Nothing like a man who can bake....I'll have to make a stop for sure during my upcoming visit.
  5. I know the menu changes often, but can you recommend any standouts you had when you last went? thanks!
  6. Have any egulleters been to Cafe Juanita lately? I'm planning a short trip to Seattle and have fond memories...want to know if it's still great food! thanks
  7. Any updated recs? I was lucky to dine at Christina's probably 3 or 4 years ago--is it still top-notch? Love to hear some more recent recs for Orcas and the other islands...
  8. I was extremely disappointed with the lack of good Vietnamese food in NYC when I lived there, but then...I'm from Seattle, and there are some damn good Vietnamese places there. And we're not just talking bahn mi or pho--real veggie-driven food. If you are in NYC, the best bahn mi I had was on the corner of Lafayette and Broadway---this tiny little yellow-painted spot. I liked this one better than Bahn Mi So 1.
  9. Anybody know the ETA on the new & improved Luau? Also, how is the new Sapphire, and do both locations have new owners? I've never been particularly impressed with Sapphire on QA, so...
  10. Alright, since I've looked and haven't seen anything posted lately...how is Rover's? Has anyone been in in the last 2 months or so? I'd really appreciate a really recent impression, since I know it's supposed to be great and all....but I just want to hear about someone's dinner in the past few months! I'm considering a dinner while I'm in Seattle for a few days, but I'm not sure so....
  11. Any update on what's moving in to Luau? Also, and forgive me if I am just out of the loop, but is that pretty restaurant up in Madrona (btw cafe soleil and hi spot) still open? the name is escaping me.
  12. I am thinking sushi as well....my favorite has always been Sanmi in Magnolia. We'll probably have sushi, but I also wanted to wow him with other seafood. I'll probably just end up grilling him some sockeye myself! That's really the seattle way.
  13. Can someone please add a link to Salumi's website? thanks!
  14. Matt's is always a great option....thanks for the reminder. Anybody know if Union has a website? I'd like to peek at sample menus and/or prices.
  15. I'm a local who'll be coming home for a visit in early August and am wondering if there are any great new seafood spots... I usually like to sit outside upstairs at Ray's, probably more for the view and the blankets they hand out when the sun sets than really for the food. But maybe I'm missing something not sitting downstairs? I'll be showing a Midwesterner around and after all my bragging, I have to bring the goods, so please let me know what you think. BTW, I guess I should say I'd rather not do the Flying Fish or Oceanaire--both are fine, but I'd like something a little better! Opinions please!
  16. I am very jealous. Up here in Jackson we're rooting for our first tomato--there are lots of flowers, though, so we're hoping that we'll get lots and that we'll avoid a frosty evening. My peas and grean beans are going strong, my kale is loving it too, and there is cilantro growing everywhere! I must've mixed it into the soil...we've had lots of salsa and I used some tonight for my pad Thai from Teton Thai (outstanding).

Hello! I need a suggestion for a nice dinner in Burlington. I'd prefer a good wine list and a younger clientelle (ie, anything labeled "continental cuisine" is out).... I would love your suggestions. So far I've found by searching outside the site: L'Amante and Opaline. Thoughts? thanks for your help!
  18. Well, I'm checking in after my weekend in Michigan. We didn't get to check out too many places, but we did have a couple of good meals. First we went to La Bistecca in Plymouth for a big steak feast. The owner suggested the filet mignon but I always feel disappointed with a skinny steak (give me the marbling!) so I went with the rib-eye and was extremely pleased. It was a damn good steak. Good service, good food....we enjoyed our dinner. Next up was a Korean diner in Ann Arbor (used to be Steve's, but I can't remember the new name). Good bi bim bop and decent ramen. A nice change of pace from the usual offerings we saw around town. That night we went to Atlas Global Bistro on Woodward. It was very good, though not exactly great. I had the lamb shank which was fine but should've been more succulent...it was a bit dry and served over dry, semi-cold mashers. I did, however, love the radicchio, blue cheese, pecan salad. Excellent. Oh, and we did go to Avalon Bakery on Willis Street. The baguettes and molasses-ginger cookies were good, not great, but we LOVED the vibe here and it smelled amazing. So nice to see a neighborhood bakery in that neighborhood.
  19. Thanks for the recommendations! I appreciate it. As for Emily's, I really don't know. As it is now, it's not looking likely. I think we've already got plans for the other nights, but I think I'll be back in the future and if that is the case, I'll make sure to go to Emily's....after checking here of course!
  20. we'll be there all next weekend. I think we're being taken out to one of the Italian restaurants next Friday...I would guess it's Little Italy. Any suggestions for what's good there?
  21. Thanks! Emily's---can you suggest some dishes and tell me how much dinner will cost?
  22. Alright, so I finally heard back! We'll be in the Plymouth/Northville area. Again, I'd love any good neighborhood eats suggestions! thanks in advance
  23. Detroit's a sprawling place. Where will you be staying and how long a drive will you be willing to make? ← I'm looking into that now and will post again as soon as I have more info on the area we're staying in. Thanks!
  24. I'll be visiting the Dearborn and Detroit areas in the next few weeks and am looking for some restaurant suggestions. I think we'd prefer a nice neighborhood spot with a certain level of sophistication, maybe a young 30s crowd but not a meat-market type place. Just an upbeat spot with great food. Really looking forward to suggestions! Thanks
