  1. I was just on the phone with a friend, talking about going to Uncle Frank's in Dumont to night for a bite (a child friendly place, too) and this restaurant just popped into my head. Khan's Mongolian Grill on Rt.303 in Blauvelt, NY.

A great place to go with the little ones. Mine loved it when they were small and still like to go there now that they are in their 20's! Except they still like Dad to pay, and they bring their SO's. So, Shawty Cat, mark this one in your places to try book. Guaranteed the kiddies will like it!

  2. I was given a card for the restaurant.

It's at 190 Closter Dock Rd

    Closter, NJ

    201-767-9190

    They are closed on Mondays.

My husband said the building used to be a carpet store. (That might explain the strange carpet hanging on one wall. It looked like people in kimonas dancing. Very strange for an Italian restaurant)

Oh, about the Chilean Sea Bass, I have heard about the boycott and the notion of not ordering it did pass briefly through my mind, but I do like the fish and was tired of salmon, don't like mahi mahi, tuna or swordfish, so I said what the HEY if they serve it I'll eat it! The fish is already caught and dead, so why not!

  3. We finally got to La Casa Vecchia on Closter Dock Rd., Closter, last night. We tried to call to find out if they had a liquor liscence, but 2 - 411 operators could not find the listing. So we put a bottle of wine in the car just in case, and took off.

They have only been open for a few months and do not serve liquor and there isn't a liquor store within walking distance. So be sure to BYOB.

I had Chilean Sea Bass served over julienne vegetables with smashed potatoes in a light tomato sauce. It was very good. Each entree comes with a house salad. And neither my hubby or myself had appetizers.

He had cappelini, with shrimp, asparagus and mushrooms in a garlic oil sauce. Then for dessert he ordered the banana split with 2 spoons. It was a huge scoop of chocolate ice cream covered with whipped cream surrounded by bananas and drizzled with caramel sauce. Yummy!!

It was a pleasant large storefront restaurant, very "family friendly".

  4. Just found out that the people who owned Borderline Bagels on Madison Ave (at the borderline of Dumont and New Milford) are the folks opening Delmonico's.

The bagel shop was there forever and had excellent bagels. Don't know how their steaks will be.

  5. Andiamo's on Hardenburg Rd. in Haworth (or is it Demarest) is very child friendly. There are always lots of kids.

Most of the small pizza restaurants are child proof OOPS...meant friendly.

Like Rudy's in Closter or Italian Connection and Uncle Frank's in Dumont.

All Diners are made for kids.

Almost forgot about Lido's in Hackensack. We used to go there a lot when our kids were anklebiters!

  6. I love peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwiches.

Southern foods I love when we go to NC to check out areas to retire to are:

grits, fried catfish, pepper jelly, & Vidalia onion dressing. How could I forget to add greens with hot pepper sauce!

I just bought a jar of fig spread at a farmer's market last week. Haven't tried it yet.

  7. I only make brown rice and I follow the directions on the package, be it bag or box.

The rice always comes out fine! I've never used a rice cooker, just a pot on the stove.

  8. Went to lunch to day in Passaic County, I think the restaurant may have been in Wayne, to Portabellos. I had Pollo

Victoria, which was a chicken cutlet topped with a slice of tomato, mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, drizzled with a

light tomato sauce. This was served with green beans and a small boiled potato. It was delish! My friend had the cavatelli

with broccoli, it had a great garlic and oil sauce with lots of grated cheese. Looked good. I'd have to get directions

if I ever wanted to go back, as I am not familiar with the area.

  9. The food is OK. Lots of better places in Bergen County. It is always crowded and has decent dogs, burgers,&

chicken. I've never tried their pizza. It's a good place to go with kids, picnic table style. You don't have to worry

    about them making a mess.

  10. I have had my Cutco knives for 31 years this month and I love them. I had them all sharpened once about 6 years ago.

I sent them into the company and they sharpened them for free and mailed them back to me as good as new. They

even replaced the steak knife with the chip in the handle. Now I have to send in my French Chef's knife (the only one

not serrated and the only one I can sharpen myself) because my hubby broke off the tip, trying to pry the lid off something.

  11. Well, we finally got to this Diner for breakfast, this morning.

The coffee was good and they have a nice selection of coffees.

I'm not into any of the flavored coffees, so I just had my plain decaf

    with half and half.

I think they might still be trying to get the kinks out because I ordered

a Florentine Omelete (spinach and feta cheese) with no potatoes or toast and a side of crisp bacon.

My DH ordered a short stack, nice and brown with very crisp bacon.

My order came out with potatoes and almost raw bacon. His order came out

with very light pancakes and barely cooked bacon. We could not find our waitress

so we asked one of the other waiters to take back the bacon and cook it more.

As he took away the bacon, we spotted our waitress walking past our tabe and

asked her for more half and half. She grunted at us and walked out the door. We

saw her go out to her car and take off. Guess her shift was over! Another waiter

then took care of us for the rest of the meal.

My omelet was a little short on the feta cheese, but otherwise, OK. Like I said they

have a few kinks to work out!

  12. Sunday mornings after church service is our usual breakfast out day and time.  So I am always looking for different good places to go.  Some of the places we frequent are, Moon in Westwood, TriValley in Dumont, Jackson Hole in Englewood, Leonia Cafe in Leonia, and all the diners from Englewood to Paramus.
