New movie: A cage of ortolans flutter madly in hostage scene. This takes place in a French restaurant which serve the avian delicacy.

Though I enjoyed seeing the differences of food each 'typical' family would consume, I feel so sad to see the sparse spread of the family featured in Chad.

(Thanks Kouign Aman!) You exchange traditional korean pots for instant gravy mixes for your homesick Ky hubby. -
I think this is called boondegi (silkworm larvae). It smelled so bad (for me) and I can tell a pot is cooking about 2 meters away. There are two things I can't bring myself to eat - silkworm larvae (which looks like young Philippine cockroaches -ours grow up to 2 inches in length) and raw crabs in soy sauce or gochujang sauce.

Cheese balls! We found this jar in a local shop and got a great price on it. See we already made a considerable dent in it. -

You have a nightmare about having to cross an intersection with downed power lines and then the dream evolves into meeting 3 eGullet members (FatGuy, Annecross and JohnnyD) for some korean BBQ. The nightmare turns into a food dream with you explaining why the restaurant was too small and it would be better to sit outside. I was really dissappointed because I woke up after they served the banchan and I didn't get to taste any of it. -
I added a recipe to Recipe Gullet. Feel free to improvise! http://recipes.egullet.org/recipes/r1979.html ← That is so great! Thank you very much Sazji!

Very cool report Sazji! I am intrigued with the various dishes you have featured, especially the Analı Kızlı (Mothers and Daughters). I love chickpeas in anything!

Ours would be huge peach statues (that look like giant pink butts) You can see one beside the truck in the middle of the picture. Oh, there are also huge chili peppers statues too but I haven't taken any pics of those yet. Janghowon is renowned for its peaches and chili peppers. -

Cadbury, I'm proud of you. You have found the Way And, for everyone, please stop with the eulogies! We're not dead yet. I still owe you two more meals, some museums, and various ponderous ponitifications (I just have to work around Girls Scouts, the Nationals for swimming, Div2 baseball, and whatever else Yoonhi has the kids signed up in). Cheers, Peter ← Yippee!!! More Peter!!! More witty write-ups and fantastic pics!!! More vermin and Yoonhi!!!!

HIroyuki - that was fascinating. I'll be watching all these episodes on YouTube (glad it has all the English subtitles). The sushi making episode has made me hungry.

Geh Rahn Jjim Recipe
Domestic Goddess replied to a topic in Elsewhere in Asia/Pacific: Cooking & Baking
It cooked over the stovetop, over medium to low heat. When the eggs start bubbling, you take it off the stove because the heat in the stoneware pot is enough to cook it all the way. I have gas stove (always had all my life) and have seen almost all korean restaurants cook it this way. Never seen it baked or cooked on an electric stove. No, it wasn't on my adobo. Adobo never has steamed/baked eggs on it. Though Adobo eaten in breakfast with garlic fried rice always has a fried egg on the side. -

Geh Rahn Jjim Recipe
Domestic Goddess replied to a topic in Elsewhere in Asia/Pacific: Cooking & Baking
Yes, you must have a stone pot. THe recipe is simple. The ratio to eggs and water is 2:1 (2 parts water to 1 part egg). Plus a little salt. Whisk it all up, cook in a pot and serve hot and bubbling. You may garnish with chopped chives or scallions if you like. I showed this in my food blog.
