  1. Hey awesome! What are some good local dishes? I love good tasty done nicely pasta also. Any other recommendations. From your list, I'm going to try the Snooty Fox and seems like the market is a place to try also.
  2. Hello I'm going to be in Fredericton, New Brunswick for a conference. I'd like to eat lobster the most! Anyone have any good recommendations (preferably cheap, I'm a "poor" student) around downtown? Are there any other good food/flavours? This place looks promising: http://www.caribbeanflavas.ca/menu.html Has anyone been there?
  3. I heard there was good poutine at GI... like Quebec poutine! Anyone have any leads?
  4. It's kind of like, a Chinese restaurant where they cater to more of a Western taste. Anyways, that's what I was thinking when I was eating there. Anyways this JangMoJib was on Robson, where there's a lot of Korean restaurants. I was considering going to the "hole in the wall" one on Denman. I didn't really like their bbq bulgogi. They don't do the grill it yourself, so it comes out on a sizzling plate. I didn't like how they paired the veggies up with the beef. I had the Galbi the time before that and that was pretty good. I also had their tofu soup (deong gang / miso flavoured) and I liked it. I did not like their seafood tofu soup. I haven't tried any Korean restaurants in Richmond. I've only gone to ones on Kingsway, Coquitlam and Downtown. Last Three places eaten: Joey's (Coquitlam), It was alright. My friends loved it. I wasn't crazy about the food but their crab dip was certainly interesting. I had the burger and also shared the chocolate souflee. I had their green salad with dried cranberries (replaced the fries with that) and I enjoyed that a lot. Some of their lettuce weren't cut small enough I thought. All in all, the salad was very tasty and I was happy that I chose it instead of my regular choice of Caesar. The burger and soufle were highly recommended but I was a bit disappointed. The dessert seemed a bit overdone (it was crispy); it was kind of a lava cake instead of your usual puffy choclatey goodness. My friends had the ribs and the maple glazed salmon. The salmon was very good and ribs were good. Forgot my other two: Coquitlam: Insadong: it was quite good. I posted about this in the Korean Galbi thread. I would definitely go back with 4-5 people and order a combo A for BBQ. Borandsi: A nice cafe with BBT and board games ($3.50 per person per hour). I had the Pat Bing Soo (Korean red bean ice) for Five dollars. YUM! http://vanshops.com/category/category_view...dx=26509&page=1
  5. I guess I'm asking, can regular people attend the screenings? edit: nvm! I found the "festival" on the theatre's website
  6. how much was going to the documentary?
  7. My friend opted to Insadong by my house. It was alright. I would go back again and order different food. Quality of the ingredients is great. Sometimes I didn't like the flavour too much. We ordered (for 3 people) the small hotpot of Goat in house special sauce, Japche(stir fried potato noodle w/marinated beef Bulgogi), and Seafood Pancake. The noodles came first, then the Hotpot and then the pancake. They were very busy but it was still kind of odd that the appetizer (pancake) came last. The small hotpot is huge! It feeds about 2 people according to our hostess but I would say it feeds 2 hungry men. It had lots of scallions, enoki and oyster mushrooms (a good quantity of it), and nice quanity + quality of goat. I was not so thrilled about the sauce. It was on the odd flavouring side (the chili peper flakes were good for the sauce but there was something else they put in the soup). I would not order it again I think. It also came with individual dipping sauces: minced garlic, scallions, black powder (I think it's crushed sesame seeds) and the beige sauce they serve with lamb / goat at Chinese restaurants (is it horseradish?). Good quality but I found the flavours a bit odd. Bulgogi JapChe: YUM! A tad bit on the expensive side (I think it's $14). There was a lot of beef, mushrooms and veggies. I would have liked to have more noodles. The noodles are GOOD! The servings a bit small for that price (compared with Chinese places). I would get it again if I order the combo. Seafood Pancake: Again, it looks small. I've had bigger pancakes so I was a bit surprised. However, this one is thicker and there's a lot of good seafood on there. The pancake does fall apart but what does one expect? Overall, good place. It's very busy there. I would go try for the combinations next time. It's a bit expensive I think if you order seperately.
  8. This statement has me puzzled. You are either saying: a. the quality of their food varies with the makeup of their clientele; or b. your enjoyment of their food varies with their clientele. ← I think there was a bit of both. I wanted a Korean experience and they were playing Chinese music. I don't want to sound racist or anything, I am Chinese. It just had me wondering how come the Korean people that got off the bus went to the other place than Jang Mo Jib. Like would they cater to more of a Chinese taste than Korean taste? (ie there are Korean styled Chinese food). There's also a bit of "I want to hear all this Korean being shouted around the restaurant." I would say Jang Mo Jib caters to a lot of international students also.
  9. Can anyone give an update of what good Korean bbq / not so expensive Korean food is around? Any places by Metrotown/Kingsway? I went to JangMoJib on the 3rd. Well I didn't like the food there this time. There were too many vegetables with the Bulgogi. I had the seafood tofu soup, and there were two kinds, but who knows which one I ordered. Anyways I didn't like the flavouring on that (seemed like they used seasoning which I didn't like). I don't really consider it a BBQ place but it's Korean none the less. I should have gone with my gut instinct and gone to the place were all the Koreans were going to (down the street on Denman). In my opinion there were a lot of nonKorean people there (so the tastes might have changed a bit). I liked their complimentary dessert (sugar water with some rice) the most. It was very refreshing.
  10. Looking for weird / authetic / non Cantonese food in Richmond. Hopefully not too expensive. I used to like Vogue but it seemed their quality went down a bit over the years. I used to love their Lamb noodles. Looking for good nonexpensive dimsum in Richmond. Any suggestions?
  11. I've had ostrich 5-6 years ago in Richmond for Hot Pot, does that show u enough of it's flavors?
  12. Today: Jang Mo Jib, I didn't like the food their this time as much. Perhaps too many chinese. I should have gone to the one with the Korean people. Saturday: Golden Phoenix? Dim sum at Nanaimo and Broadway... it's cheap but not really... quality not so good. and the "special dishes" are $4 and not good... regular dimsum $1.88. I guess I'd pig out on cheng fun for $1.88. But yea they also charge for tea, 0.70 per person. So... 7 dishes came to $20.84. I say it's too much for bad food.
  13. First post! Had my birthday / end of exam dinner at Mr. Rooster's tonight. Really full Daniel asked if we'd just like for him to bring us (me and two guys) some "tasters" and we said sure.. He brought A LOT of food, that we couldn't finish it all Starters: He made some Ricotta Cheese (soooooooo good.... we all loved it). ($3.50?) Twist on his prawns African style, had some tomatos... nice sauce to go on rice... like curry ($9.95?) BBQ Mushrooms with Truffle Oi ($5? 6?) Really good, my friend who doesn't particulalrly like mushrooms really liked these. Main: We had a big plate come up with Rack of Lamb (really good... not so good when it cooled down but really good)$35 Sweet Breads (uhhhhhhhhh guts? good sauce though.. won't say I'd order it again) Choritzo Sausage (8) mine was a bit burnt cuz ... Daniel had a fire going on our plate to cook the sausage ... very fun Chicken ... very nice a tad burnt in some places but not dry.. a think this was a whole one sides: zucchini, carrots, this tomato potato onion thing... yum Dessert: blueberry flambe (yum), mango mousse (pretty yummy), chocolate mousse (a tad dryer) all for 12 an hour an a half later.. I am very full more edits: I think Daniel is doing a suckling pig tomorrow (the 28th for a party of 22)
